Interior Design 2009 Student Awards and Scholarships Interior Design sophomores participated in the 2009 NeoCon Chicago, GreenLife Student National Competition. Two teams from University of Oklahoma were selected to participate. Kristen Cole, Elizabeth Oestmann and Aileen Yang made up the first team and Harold Barns, Sara Huff and Kelci Fitch made up the second. The faculty sponsors were Assistant Professors Christina Hoehn and Scott Wil- liams. Jessica Sline, Interior Design junior, won the 2009 Phi Kappa Phi Award for distinguished undergraduate research for her light fixture presentation at the Student Research and Performance Day. The faculty sponsor was Associate Professor Abimbola O. Asojo. Eliane Santos BSED major presented “Experience Design: The Strategic Design Approach” at the 2009 Student Research and Performance Day. The faculty sponsor was Associate Professor Abimbola O. Asojo. Congratulations to Jessica Whitson and Emily Kirk, two University of Oklahoma Interior Design seniors who passed the LEED exam in summer 2009. Lighting designs by Emily Kirk, Megan Mar- tin, Alison Hensal, and Stephanie Troop were featured in the April 2009 Design Display Ideas Magazine article titled “Branding with Lighting: Interior design stu- dents at the University of Oklahoma propose distinctive illuminated store plans” by Vilma Barr, New York editor. The faculty sponsor was Associate Professor Abim- bola O. Asojo. Julie Mitzner and Beth McElfresh placed first and third in the International Inte- rior Design Association (IIDA) Student Conference 2009 Houston. Associate Professor Abimbola Asojo, director of the division of Interior Design was named as one of DesignIntelligence Most Admired Educators of 2010. The Interior Design division was ranked second in the nation in the computer skills assessment area. Assistant Professor Elizabeth Pober is responsible for teaching the programs computer application courses. DesignIntelligence surveyed 381 private practices in fields related to architecture, landscape architecture, interior design or industrial design when determining which programs would be included in this issue. These organizations determined which schools were best at preparing students for success in their respective fields.

Interior Design 2009 Student Awards and Scholarships

Interior Design sophomores participated in the 2009 NeoCon Chicago, GreenLife Student National Competition. Two teams from University of Oklahoma were selected to participate. OU’s Interior Design Division Gains National Attention

The Interior Design program in the University of Oklahoma College of Architecture was ranked number 6 in the nation by DesignIntelligence in its publication, Amer-ica’s Best Architecture and Design Schools. Associate Professor Abimbola Asojo, director of the division of Interior Design was named as one of DesignIntelligence Most Admired Educators of 2010. The Interior Design division was ranked second in the nation in the computer skills assessment area. Assistant Professor Elizabeth Pober is responsible for teaching the programs computer application courses. DesignIntelligence surveyed 381 private practices in fields related to architecture, landscape architecture, interior design or industrial design when determining which programs would be included in this issue. The goal of the 2009 Dream Course is to discuss design history from a more inclusive perspective.

Service Learning Projects

OU Information Technology Merrick Building Project

The freshman students completed de-signs to remodel some of the support spaces for the OU IT department at the Merrick Building on North Base with Professors Biddick and Pober. Their designs included expanded conference and video conferencing rooms, a new break room with kitchen, and a high-tech gaming lounge. The IT group has selected components and will begin the remodel this fall.

Cleveland County Habitat for Humanity Offices

The sophomore students worked in groups to complete designs for a total remodel of the existing office space and an expansion space with Profes-sors Biddick and Pober. The design of the project was centered on a low budget, sustainable design with volun-teer labor. Construction for the selected group’s design will begin this October.

The state convention was held in Tulsa this year. Student officers from the Interior Design Student Association represented our university and spent the morning en-joying a trade show featuring Penny Bonda, FASID, presenting “LEED into De-sign” and celebrated the ASID Excellence in Design Awards.
