XOHAN VIQUEIRA: Time and memory geographiesThe installation of the artist Xohan Viqueira leads us to a universe of connections, relations and interactions betwe-en spaces far way in terms of geography and time, in the memory of the recollection and in the experience of the present, and, all, through ceramic material built as artistic work. To build a narrative through the ceramic dialogue is a vir-tue of the work that Xohan Viqueira presents in the Inter-national Biennial of Artistic Ceramics of Aveiro. It builds a ceramic city around the lighthouse, which functions as a reference, as a symbol. The lighthouse is what guides us, what leads us, offers safety and a reference point in our path and in our biography and, in this case, the artist offers us a path that is united to his own path and his life history. A life of crossings between the Atlantic and the Mediterra-nean, between two lands bathed by two seas so different, but that constitute two homes that we can see through the work in a perfect way. A dualism that is also crystallized in the colors, the deep blue, the blue of the Galicia seas that becomes softer in the Mediterranean blue and that dialo-gues with the earth colors upon which the works rest. These lighthouses built in clay, with an aesthetic symbo-lism so strong and with a controlled technique, connect us, in reality, to all lighthouses in the world, of all shapes and sizes, as diverse as the seas that bathe the world and its lands. These lighthouses present themselves as con-nection points, reassuring messages in an ocean of aban-donment and anguish, because in the end, thanks to art, we discover that we are not alone in the ocean of life, there is someone to guide us, to take care of us, and, thus far it can seem fleeting, the light comes and indicates that we can walk through safe paths.Xohan shouts hope through ceramic art, in a world that, by means of aesthetic and visual poetics, believes in the hu-man action of change, in solidarity and, most of all, in the encounters between human beings so diverse that, each day, are even more needed.
