It’s hard to believe but we have been conducting the Fred J. Miller Clinics for 50 years.

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the FJM Clinics and it seems like just yesterday we

were all at the Miller’s Mountain Lodge in Livermore, Maine. How things have changed!

We started out as a clinic that taught just baton twirling and now we have developed strong

programs in Color Guard, Drum Major, Student Leadership, Dance Line, Drill Team and of

course Majorette and Featured Twirler.

We have seen many of our instructional staff move on and become top educators

in their field. I wonder what the next 50 years will bring. It will be exciting to see

what takes place.

Page 4: 2009 FJM Clinic Brochure

World Class Instruction at FJM ClinicsThe FJM Clinic Staff brings instructional and performance experience from the nations top college and

high school marching bands, drum corps, winter guards, dance teams, and twirling lines. We recruit and

employ talented performers and instructors from organizations such as The Cavaliers, The Glassmen,

Northeast Independent, Blesses Sacrement, Zydeco, Northern Lights, Pride of Cincinnati, the University of

Arizona, Louisiana State University, the University of Nebraska, Purdue University, The Ohio State University,

the University of Cincinnati, the University of Notre Dame, Bowling Green State University, and

Miami University (Ohio).

Each clinic is run by a clinic administrator with an extensive background in education, leadership, and

pageantry instruction. With a combined 25 years of FJM clinic experience, our three administrators

hold bachelors and masters degrees in education, communication, music, and school counseling.

You simply will not find a more highly qualified and well trained instructional staff!

Drum Majors and Section LeadersFJM’s Drum Major and Leadership Program continues to

be recognized nationally as one of the best programs

available today for marching bands.

Drum Major: Our drum major curriculum combines a variety of conducting techniques with musical knowledge,

understanding, and interpretation to provide your students with the most extensive conducting training available.

Your students will be actively involved in making musical decisions to guide their conducting movements, training them

to evoke optimal musical performance from your band. We also offer students the opportunity to participate in

additional classes for marching technique and performance, instructional and teaching techniques to run sectionals, and

leadership and motivational classes to help inspire your entire performing group. Nowhere else will your students get the

quality training that FJM Clinics offers.

Section Leaders: Our curriculum offers a wide range of classes and topics for your students to personalize their

experience for the demands of your group. Students will select many classes in leadership techniques, team-building

and motivational ideas, problem solving and mediation, marching and performance techniques, instructional and teaching

techniques to run sectionals, as well as some instrument performance classes to help them set a good example for their

sections when they return. Send us the leaders in your ensemble and let us train them to be a valuable asset and aid in

your daily routines and instruction.

Rifle and Flag LinesFJM Clinics will bring to you the most current and up-to-date curriculum. With daily classes in equipment and

movement technique, we will help your students strengthen critical technical skills and cutting edge equipment work.

Your students will choose classes, routines, and combinations that suit their experience and skill level, all with attention

to the latest choreography.

We offer a non-competitive environment at FJM clinics.

The purpose of our clinic is for students to gain knowledge

in their particular discipline, as well as develop confidence

in themselves.
