Why Your Chamber Should Be Top-of-MindOur Mission

Promote an environment in which Chamber members and the community can realize economic prosperity.

How we make a differencen By delivering valuable services to our members that keep

them informed and connected to our communityn By setting high standards and cultivating strong leadership

inside and outside the Chambern By supporting economic development in Coweta Countyn By advocating for Coweta County in the region and at the

state level

Why businesses thinkwe’re a smart investmentSimply put, the Chamber helpsbusinesses become more prosperous. Our programs, information sharing,coalition-building, advocacy andnetworking opportunities areunequalled in Coweta County. TheChamber is the only local, comprehensive, one-stop resource forgrowing a business, spurring individualcareers, and contributing to the overalleconomic prosperity and well-being ofour community.

Most of us here in CowetaCounty benefit in some wayfrom the Chamber ofCommerce, even if we don’trealize it. When you go intoyour favorite restaurant, bookstore or boutique, lookand see if you can find aChamber of Commercemember decal. If you see one,it likely means that thebusiness you choose to dobusiness with is one that caresa great deal about ourcommunity and wants to seeour county grow and prosperin a way that’s wise and well-thought-out. That Chambermember logo also indicatesthat the business you visit ismost likely led by people whounderstand that there is astrong connection betweenwhat is best for the communityat large and what is best forthe businesses that thrivethere.

In other words, when youpatronize a business that is amember of the Newnan-Coweta Chamber ofCommerce, you’re taking partin a team effort of communitysupport that is much broaderthan what you may see.Chamber Members know thatwe’re all in this economytogether — and they wouldn’thave it any other way.

If you have a business that isnot a member of the Chamber,

How will YOU ‘Think Chamber’? I heartily invite you to join us in2009. And as you makechoices each day about thebusinesses you visit, Iencourage you to “ThinkChamber.” It’s a great way tosupport this community we allshare!

In 2008, the economy was atthe forefront for everyone, including the Chamber ofCommerce. We helped localbusinesses and policymakersshare information about short-term economic conditionswhile keeping a focus on ourcounty’s long-term economicpotential.

Addressing theNeeds of LocalBusinesses

The Chamber’s series ofIndustry Roundtables, heldthroughout 2008, brought rep-resentatives together to dis-cuss current challenges, advantages to doing businessin Coweta County, and theirconcerns and hopes for thefuture. Roundtable groupsincluded financial services,“big-box” retail, independentretail, hospitality, real estate, manufacturing and healthcare. While all groups shared con-cerns about the economy, theywere also extremely positiveabout the nature of consumersin Coweta County and therelationships they formed withresidents. Participants werealso interested in pursuingresponsible, well-planneddevelopment to accommodateCoweta’s growth. The execu-tive summary is available atwww.newnancowetachamber.org.

UnderstandingCoweta’s EconomicPotential

To be good stewards of oureconomy, we must understandour assets, our challenges, and — most importantly —our potential. In October, theChamber hosted an EconomicSummit, featuring William H.Fruth, an economist fromPOLICOM Corporation. Mr.Fruth shared data he collectedabout the Coweta Countyeconomy and how it com-pared to other areas in thestate and the nation. He alsoshared recommendationsabout how Coweta Countycan successfully grow itseconomy. (His presentation isavailable on the Chamberwebsite. The POLICOM studywas sponsored by Atlanta GasLight, AT&T, Coweta-FayetteEMC, Georgia Power andNewnan Utilities.

Creating MarketingOpportunities forMembers

The Chamber always looks forways to help membersincrease their potential for mar-keting their businesses. In

2008, we introduced a particu-larly effective tool via theChamber website — an onlinemarketplace where memberscan communicate directly withone another about their prod-ucts and services. The newfeature also includes a jobslisting, where members can

find qualified employees tohelp grow their businesses. And as always, the Chamberprovided unparalleled network-ing opportunities for business-es of all sizes, as describedthroughout this report.

The Chamber plays a leader-

ship role for Coweta business-es and residents on manyfronts. Whether you’re passion-ate about long-range planningfor economic growth, or wantimmediate access to the peo-ple and tools that help busi-nesses succeed, it pays to“Think Chamber!”
