Our faculty continues to develop the next wave of curricula,emphasizing IT-enabled business processes and careers in knowledge-based professional services.

Academic ProgramsBentley offers a remarkable array of specialized business courses, fromthe Business Core curriculum to elective courses for majors and minors.This depth of offerings, combined with our emphasis on informationtechnology and hands-on experience in state-of-the-art learning labs,prepares students to succeed in a fast-paced, complex world.

The arts and sciences join business as an integral component of a Bentleyeducation. In fact, half of the undergraduate courses are in arts andsciences disciplines – called the General Education Core. These courses

expand a student’s frame ofreference and build skills incritical thinking, decision-making,communication and other areasessential for well-roundedprofessionals.

Whether in business or thearts and sciences, academicprograms at Bentley emphasizeboth theory and practice.Students gain a firm grasp of thehistorical, societal and otherforces that shape a disciplinesuch as management orinternational studies. Meanwhile,

course projects, internships, and service-learning assignments enablestudents to test business principles and concepts in corporate andnonprofit settings. Bentley professors link theory and practice not onlyin teaching but in their own research. The topics they investigate arerooted in the complex challenges that leading companies face everyday.

While the curriculum offers a breadth and depth usually found only atlarger universities, the experience at Bentley is student centered. Weare a teaching-focused university that offers a personal experience,with small classes and an excellent faculty-student ratio of 1 to 12.There are no lecture halls at Bentley. All of our courses are taught byprofessors – not graduate assistants – who put a premium on first-rateteaching, research and advising.

Business CoreBeginning in fall 2009, a significantly enhanced Business Core will beavailable to Bentley students. All first-year students will study the ethicaland legal environment of business, enriched by resources in Bentley’sCyber Law Center, as well as accounting and finance. Supported by agenerous Ernst & Young Foundation grant, improved methods forlearning accounting and finance are a hallmark of the new Core.Information technology tools and systems management are integratedinto business statistics, as well as into another innovative course onbusiness processes, which also integrates marketing, operations,accounting and finance. Project management and team skills development

will be featured in the third-year Integrated Business Project course.The organizational behavior course will focus on valuing diversity.Students will assess their intercultural relationship skills, which will bere-assessed in the capstone global strategy course to gauge the impactof international education opportunities Bentley offers, includingsemester- and year-long overseas study.

As part of a continuing effort to enable students to understand theimportant linkages between business and the arts and sciences, the four-course Finance, Management, and Marketing minors have been improvedby requiring students to choose one course from a list of Arts andSciences electives related to the minor. In addition, all Bachelor of Artsmajors now require students to complete the Business Studies Minor,which consists of five courses from the first two years of the revisedGeneral Business Core.

General EducationOne cannot sustain long-term success in the world of business unlessthey know about much more than just business. That’s why Bentleyputs such an emphasis on providing a broad and rich education. Ourgraduates are literate, articulate, well-read, independent-thinkingindividuals with a keen understanding of global issues, civic responsibilityand business ethics.

Half of the courses required in the General Education Core are in thearts and sciences. Students are exposed to a wide range of subjects inthe behavioral and social sciences (psychology and history, for example);

The General EducationCore includes the First-YearSeminar, a program designedto help get their collegecareer off to a good start.Led by teams of staff andstudents, the seminarintroduces freshmen totopics such as academicplanning, faculty expectations,group process, studentresponsibilities, individuallearning styles, diversity,gender issues, and interpersonal communication. Students also take anintroductory course that covers the broad principles of informationtechnology and the specifics of computing resources at Bentley.

LocationLocated in Waltham, Mass. on 163 acres, Bentley is just 10 miles west ofBoston and a short, free shuttle ride from Harvard Square in Cambridge.Both cities provide vast resources for internships, job opportunitiesand cultural events. Bentley is easily accessible from the MassachusettsTurnpike, Route 95 and the Waltham MBTA Station.

HistoryFounded by Harry C. Bentley in 1917 as a school of accounting andfinance.Offered first four-year Bachelor of Science program in 1961.Moved from downtown Boston to Waltham, Mass., in 1968 toaccommodate growing enrollment and student demand for educationblending academic study and extracurricular opportunities.Approved in 1971 to grant both BS and BA degrees; changed name toBentley College.Graduate School of Business founded in 1974.The Mobile Computing program, one of the first in the country, islaunched in 1985. The program provides all freshmen with a network-ready laptop computer with fully loaded software.In late 1990s, Bentley pioneered integration of information technologyinto the core business curriculum and positions itself as the schoolfor the information age.The graduate school is named for 1967 alumnus Elkin B. McCallum inhonor of a generous gift made by the McCallum Family Foundation in1999.The Smith Academic Technology Center opens in 2000 to serve asthe focal point for business and technology initiatives on campus.Two additional residence halls open on the Southeast campus in 2001,helping to offset growing demand for on-campus housing amongundergraduates. A new baseball field debuts too, named in honor ofthe school’s first and only baseball coach, Robert A. DeFelice. Theathletic expansion project also includes a new soccer field, an outdoortrack and six tennis courts.Bentley expands its campus to the Middle East in 2002 with the “Bentleyin Bahrain” program in partnership with Bahrain Institute of Bankingand Finance (BIBF). Program offers students in Bahrain and surroundingGulf States the opportunity to learn from Bentley professors andearn a Bentley degree.Third residence hall, housing 285 students, opens in 2004In 2005, launched the Liberal Studies Major – a first-of-its-kindprogram for a business school in which students major in businessand the liberal arts, and receive credentials in both. Construction iscompleted on two apartment-style residence halls on Forest Street,now known as the North Campus.Doctoral program debuts in fall 2006. Construction on two additionalapartment-style buildings is completed. Renovation and expansion ofDana Athletic Center and Bentley Library is completed.Bentley becomes a university. The Massachusetts Board of HigherEducation approves Bentley’s request to change its designation andname to become Bentley University, effective October 2, 2008.

Bentley’s athletic department embodiesthe tradition of excellence that spansall areas of the university. Bentley is aneight-time winner of the prestigiousPresident’s Cup, presented annually tothe best overall athletic program in theNortheast-10 Conference.

Football made its debut in the NCAADivision II playoffs in 2003 and followedthat with a return appearance in 2004.Men’s basketball and women’s volleyballhave both earned NCAA tournamentberths each of the last five years, withthe former reaching the NCAA DivisionII Elite Eight in 2007 and 2008.Women’s basketball has competed in aDivision II record 26 NCAApostseason tournaments and has advanced to the national semifinalsseven times since 1989. The field hockey team captured Bentley’s firstNCAA national championship in 2001.

Each year, all Bentley teams have the goal of winning a conferencechampionship and qualifying for their respective NCAA championship.Bentley is a charter member of the Northeast-10, and offers varsityathletic competition in 23 sports (12 for men, 11 for women). One ofthe nation’s largest Division II conferences, the Northeast-10 also

includes Adelphi, American International,Assumption, Franklin Pierce, Le Moyne,UMass-Lowell, Merrimack, New Haven,Pace, Saint Anselm, St. Michael’s, SaintRose, Southern Connecticut, SouthernNew Hampshire and Stonehill.

The Bentley ice hockey programcompetes in the Division I AtlanticHockey League against schools such asAir Force, UConn, Holy Cross, Armyand Mercyhurst. In March 2006, theFalcons reached the finals of the

Atlantic Hockey playoffs for the firsttime ever.

In the spring of 2009, more than 50percent of the college’s varsity athleteswere named to the Dean’s List orPresident’s List. Their on-field successhas been recognized with All-NewEngland, All-America and ESPN theMagazine Academic All-America®honors.

Full athletic scholarships are awardedin men’s and women’s basketball.Athletic aid for other sports isprimarily based on financial need and/or academic merit. Prospectivestudents should contact the coach of

FacilitiesThe focus of athletics at Bentley University is the lower campus, whereour well-manicured outdoor playing fields surround the recently-expanded Charles A. Dana Athletic Center. The Dana Center facilityserves both athletics and the student population. The 118,000-squarefoot multipurpose facility features a field house, a brand-new two-storyfitness center, another fitness center for varsity athletes only, generallocker rooms, competition size swimming pool, athletic training roomand rehabilitation area, athletic team and locker rooms, and 24 athleticoffices. The center is available to Bentley students, faculty and staffwith a valid Bentley ID.

The two-story glass-enclosed fitness center was the focal point of amajor expansion of the facility, completed in the spring of 2006. Theaddition also features a food court, additional restroom facilities and aboosters suite which overlooks the football field.

The addition of the new fitness center enables Bentley’s varsity athletesto have a separate weight room. Both feature state-of-the-art equipment,making the college’s fitness facilities unparalleled in the region.

In the field house, brand-new seating for 2,600 surrounds a parquetfloor that is home to the men’s and women’s basketball teams, and thevolleyball team. Surrounding the court is a tenth-of-a-mile oval track.When not servicing our athletic teams, the main court can betransformed into three full size basketball courts or three volleyballcourts. The general locker rooms are equipped with daily use lockersand showers as well as saunas and steam rooms. An indoor natatoriumfeaturing a competition-size (25 meters by 25 yards) swimming pooland separate diving tank is also available to all students.

During the fall, spring and summer seasons, the focus shifts to thecollege’s outdoor playing fields. Two synthetic lighted fields (one aFieldTurf surface and the other a hockey pitch turf) are located side-by-side on the lower campus. These fields come alive when the Falconshost games in football, field hockey and men’s and women’s lacrosse.When our teams are not hosting games or conducting practices, thefields light up at night with student life. Bentley’s club sports in men’s

and women’s rugby, ultimate Frisbee and over 100 intramural teamsmake use of the fields. The action doesn’t stop on just the syntheticfields; our facilities also include three grass fields. A baseball stadium,soccer stadium enhanced with a state-of-the-art quarter-mile track,nearby softball field, and six tennis courts serves as the homes for ourother respected athletic teams.

When scheduling opportunities arise around athletics and organizedstudent life, the facilities are used for hosting inside and outsidecommunity events. Such events include: Campus Activities Board’s“Event of the Month”, Greek life tournaments and several other studentorganizational recreational events. A limited amount of outside eventsare hosted by the athletic department to enhance Bentley’s role in thesurrounding communities. Events hosted range from MIAAchampionship events, local high school and college contests andseventeen camps that utilize all facilities throughout the summer.

At the same time, their different backgrounds, interestsand goals keep members of the campus community learning from eachother – and having fun in the process.

A steady supply of university and student-sponsored events bringsundergraduate, graduate, doctoral and professional education students,faculty and others together around common interests. Opportunitiesinclude lectures by well-known business leaders, plays and concerts,panel discussions with alumni from various career fields, exhibits inthe library’s art gallery, and networking nights with professionalorganizations such as the Society for Management.

Cheering on the Bentley Falcons in football, basketball, soccer, lacrosseand other varsity sports for men and women is another popular pursuithere. Finally, resources such as the games room and Harry’s Corner inthe Student Center, the renovated Dana Athletic Center and the state-of-the-art Bentley Library are dynamic places to work out or just hangout with fellow students, colleagues and friends.

At Bentley, approximately 83 percent of full-time undergraduatestudents make their home on campus. Freshmen live in a traditionaldormitory residence hall (double, triple or quad occupancy);upperclassman options include multi-person suites and one-, two- andthree-bedroom apartments with bathrooms and kitchenettes. Thanksto “one port per pillow,” students have individual access to the Internetand the university network in their dorm room. With computer portsand wireless coverage throughout thecampus, fast and convenient access is notdifficult to find.

When it comes to eating on campus,students have a great variety of choices. Student Health Services (SHS) provides free, confidential healthcare to all full-time students at Bentley. Services include diagnosis andtreatment of acute and chronic illnesses and injuries, lab testing,dermatology, men’s and women’s health care, and medical and dentalreferrals. SHS is staffed by nurse practitioners and physicians who offercounseling and education programs covering topics such as stressmanagement, relaxation, sexuality, and responsible lifestyle decision-making. The Alcohol and Drug Resource Center has a trained professionalwho offers education and counseling for alcohol and drug issues to allgroups and individuals on campus.

Counseling and Student Development (CSD) offers programs andservices to address issues common to college-age students. Counselingand mental health services are provided to all students for concernsrelated to stress depression, anxiety, family life, relationships, and otherconcerns, by a staff of psychologists, social workers and counselors.Disability Services is also housed in CSD; a staff member providessupport services and works with students to arrange appropriateaccommodations during their academic career. All sessions with the CSDare free and confidential.

The Spiritual Life Center serves the spiritual and religious needs ofstudents and other members of the campus community. The staff includesCatholic and Protestant chaplains as well as advisers to individuals ofthe Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim traditions. Students from a varietyof faiths can call on the center for referrals to appropriate religiouscommunities in the Waltham and Boston area. Look to the center forcounseling, interfaith and faith-specific services, scripture studies,sacramental preparation, and opportunities for spiritual growth. Weeklyservices are held in the Sacred Space, located in the Student Center.

International students have a ready resource in the Center forInternational Students and Scholars. Staff members coordinateorientation programs for new international students and provideadvising on immigration, employment and academic issues. In addition,the International Peer Advisers program eases the transition to collegelife by fostering relationships between international students andcontinuing students at Bentley.

Students explore current interests – and develop new ones – by tappinginto the university’s 100-plus student organizations. There are

numerous opportunities to get involved inacademically oriented groups, the creativeand performing arts, student government,campus newspapers and the radio station,fraternity and sorority life, and much more.Students can also connect with classmatesat events like Hawaiian luau, Build Your OwnSundae party, stand-up comedy andhypnotist performances, a Boston scavengerhunt, and more. A public policy expert, lawyer andbusiness leader, Gloria Cordes Larsonassumed the presidency of Bentley Collegein July 2007. The school became BentleyUniversity in October 2008. Larson joinedBentley from the leading law firm Foley Hoag,where she co-chaired the GovernmentStrategies Group. The practice that she

managed covered a broad array of regulatory and business developmentissues at the federal, state and local levels.

Widely influential in economic policy, President Larson led abusiness advisory cabinet for Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick,and co-chaired his transition team. Her contributions also includechairing the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority. Under herleadership, the organization oversaw renovation of the MassMutualCenter in Springfield and construction of the $800 million BostonConvention and Exhibition Center.

In the administration of former Massachusetts Governor WilliamWeld, she served as secretary of economic affairs (1993 to 1996) andsecretary of consumer affairs and business regulation (1991 to 1993).Prior to that, President Larson managed business and regulatory issuesas a senior official with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). She servedas an attorney advisor to the FTC commissioner from 1981 to 1988,and as the agency’s deputy director of consumer protection from 1990to 1991.

In January 2005, President Larson was appointed to the RoseFitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy Board. Boston MayorThomas Menino tapped her to serve on the city’s Host Committee forthe 2004 Democratic National Convention. President Larson is adirector of Unum Group and lead director of Blue Cross Blue Shieldof Massachusetts. She is a board member on several prominentprofessional and community organizations, including the Greater BostonChamber of Commerce, for which she is the chair of the board; BostonCenter for the Arts; Roger Williams University School of Law;Massachusetts Women’s Forum; Rosie’s Place; and The Dimock Center.She is a member of the Massachusetts, Virginia and Boston barassociations.

Many groups have recognized President Larson’s longstandingcommitment to civic duty, especially her work in raising awareness ofthe need for education reform and in promoting the role of business inchanging that landscape. These honors include:

Kathleen L. YorkisVice President forStudent Affairs

Kathleen Yorkis came to BentleyUniversity in 1986 as Dean of Students andwas named Vice President for StudentAffairs in November 2001. Prior to herpromotion to vice president, she hadserved as Bentley’s Chief Student AffairsOfficer since September 1999.

Under Yorkis’ leadership, the Division of Student Affairs providesa comprehensive set of student services, builds a student life communityand works with each young person to ensure their individualdevelopment. Her areas of responsibility include Athletics andIntramurals, Student Activities, Health Services, Counseling and StudentDevelopment, Residence Life, Residential Services, Multicultural Center,International Student Services, Orientation, Dining Services, JudicialAffairs, Spiritual Life, Campus Police and the Dean of Student Affairs.

Prior to joining Bentley, she worked at Coopers & Lybrand inBoston as Director of Professional Development and Director of TaxPersonnel, Finance and Administration.

In terms of Student Affairs facilities, during Yorkis’s tenure,Bentley University has expanded the number and variety of on-campushousing opportunities, built a state-of-the-art student center, increasedthe size of the Dana Athletic Center by 30,000 square feet, constructeda new baseball stadium, and surfaced the football stadium and practicefields with synthetic grass.

The intercollegiate and intramural athletic programs at Bentleyhave continued to expand on an annual basis under Yorkis’ leadership.In 2008, nearly 500 men and women participated on intercollegiateteams and more than 3,000 men and women participated on 280different intramural teams. The new fitness center accommodates over130,000 uses per year.

Yorkis holds a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo (NY),a master’s degree from SUNY Albany, and a doctorate in HigherEducation Administration from The American University in Washington,D.C.

Yorkis and her husband, Paul, live in Medway. She has been anactive member of Medway Public School advisory council. Kathleenhas also held public office, serving as a member of the Harford County,Maryland, Board of Education. They have two adult children, Jacob andLaura, and one grandchild.

Bob DeFeliceAthletics Director

The only baseball coach BentleyUniversity has ever known, Bob DeFelicebecame just the second athletics directorin the university’s history when he waspromoted in October 1991.

DeFelice’s affiliation with the collegedates back to 1968 when he was hired asBentley’s first varsity baseball coach. Aftercoaching the team on a part-time basis from

its inception in 1969 to 1987, he was named Assistant Athletics Directorfor Programs in August 1987. Two years later, he was promoted toAssociate Athletics Director.

Bentley athletic teams and athletic facilities have all prosperedunder his direction. Since he became AD, Falcon athletic teams havecaptured nearly 90 conference championships (regular season andplayoff) and made NCAA appearances in eight team sports (football,women’s basketball, men’s basketball, field hockey, volleyball, golf, men’stennis, women’s tennis and men’s cross country). In 2001, the fieldhockey team captured the first NCAA championship in the university’shistory.

Under his leadership, Bentley has captured the Northeast-10Presidents Cup eight times, emblematic of the best overall athleticprogram in the conference. The most recent came for the 2008-09academic year.

Over the last nine years, under DeFelice’s watch, the collegehas expanded its athletic facilities with the addition of a soccer field,outdoor track, six tennis courts and perhaps the finest college baseballfacility in New England, which was named in honor of DeFelice. He alsooversaw the recent major renovation of the Dana Center, including theconstruction of a new fitness center, food court and boosters suite.

DeFelice, the longest tenured active Division II baseball coachin the nation (2010 will be his 42nd season), has led his team to anaverage of 20 wins a season the last decade and has 619 wins duringhis career.

In 2001, the Falcons set an NCAA Division II record and led allof college baseball by hitting 2.39 home runs a game, knocking anincredible 98 balls out of the park in 41 games.

DeFelice, a 1963 graduate of Boston College with a Bachelor ofScience degree in history, began his coaching career that same year ashead football coach and assistant basketball coach at ChristopherColumbus High School, a position he held for three years. In 1965, hebegan a three-year playing career in the Boston Red Sox minor leagueorganization. In 1967, he was a player-coach with the Pittsfield RedSox.

Before joining the Bentley athletic department staff on a full-time basis in 1987, DeFelice spent 17 years (1970-86) as head footballcoach at his alma mater, Winthrop High School. During that time, he ledthe Vikings to a 101-65-2 record, with four Northeast Conferencechampionships, a 33-game winning streak in the early 80’s and twoEastern Massachusetts Division II Super Bowl titles.

Amazingly, DeFelice has been inducted into seven Halls of Fame.He was honored by Boston College in 1986, Bentley in October 1999,and was a charter member of the Winthrop High Hall of Fame in 1997.In November 2002, he was one of four inductees into the MassachusettsChapter of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame.

DeFelice has also been inducted into the Massachusetts HighSchool Football Coaches, the Boston Park League and the Union PrintersInternational Baseball League halls of fame.

DeFelice helped establish the Eastern Collegiate FootballConference and was a founder of the Eastern Football Conference.He served as the EFC commissioner from 1997-2000, when it wasabsorbed by the Northeast-10 Conference.

Among the many honors he has received are the Murray LewisAward from the Eastern Association of Intercollegiate Football Officialsand the Whitey Allard and Marty McDonough Memorial SportsmanshipAward from the College Baseball Umpires Association of New England.In May 2004, he received the Jack Butterfield Award from the NewEngland Intercollegiate Baseball Association for his contributions tocollege baseball.

DeFelice and his wife, Patricia, have four children and sevengrandchildren.

Sandy HoffmanAssistant Athletics Director

Sandy Hoffman has been thewomen’s volleyball coach at BentleyUniversity since 1982 and an assistantathletics director since 1990. Her completebiography can be found on page 12.

Cindy ScottAssistant Athletics Director

A former Division I women’sbasketball coach, Cindy Scott is in her 12thyear as an assistant director of athletics. Herduties include serving as the NCAAcompliance coordinator, directing theAcademic Assistance Program, coordinatingrecruiting efforts with the Office ofAdmission and overseeing student life

programs for student-athletes, including the Student Athlete AdvisoryCouncil.

Scott came to Bentley from Southern Illinois, where she wasthe head women’s basketball coach for 21 years (1977-98).

During her tenure, Scott’s teams won 388 games, captured threeconference championships (1986, 1987, 1990) and appeared in fourNCAA tournaments, most recently in 1992. In 1987, she directed herteam to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. There were eight 20-win seasonsand fours others in which the Salukis missed the 20-win plateau byjust one game.

Scott, a 1994 inductee into the Southern Illinois University Hallof Fame, served as President of the Women’s Basketball CoachesAssociation during the 1993-94 academic year, ironically precedingBentley’s Barbara Stevens in the role.

Scott received her Bachelor of Science in Education fromMemphis State University (now the University of Memphis) in 1975and her Master of Science in Education from Southern Illinois Universityin 1976. She now resides in Waltham.

Kevin Loftus, a 1993 graduate ofUMass-Lowell, is in his 10th year as anassistant athletics director and his secondtour of duty as an assistant baseball coachat Bentley.

Loftus oversees athletic facilities, gamemanagement, scheduling, transportation andwork study.

Loftus, 39, has been affiliated withBentley since September 1994 when he was hired by Bob DeFelice asan assistant coach, a position he would hold until February 1999. Heresumed assisting Coach DeFelice in baseball in 2001.

Loftus rejoined the athletic department in July 2000 after fourand a half years in the college’s systems and networks department. Heserved as a network technician from Feb. 1996 until June 1999, whenhe was promoted to network analyst.

A third-team Division II All-America and the New EnglandCollegiate Conference Player of the Year in 1993, Loftus hit .366 duringhis two years at UMass-Lowell, helping the Chiefs to a pair of ECACDivision II tournaments and a composite 47-28-1 record.

The recipient of a Bachelor of Science degree in ElectricalEngineering, Loftus is currently pursuing his MBA from Bentley with aconcentration in Management. He lives in Waltham with his wife CarolAnn and their son, Dylan, who was born in April.

Dick LipeSports Information Director

Dick Lipe, now in his 33rd year asBentley’s Sports Information Director andhis 37th overall at the university, graduatedfrom Bentley in 1977 with a Bachelor ofScience degree in accounting.

His duties include coordinating allsports publicity and public relations for theathletic department, which includes 23varsity sports.

A past president of the ECAC Sports Information DirectorsAssociation, Lipe, 53, was a college division representative on the Boardof Directors of the College Sports Information Directors of America(CoSIDA) for three years. He has served on the NCAACommunications Committee and is chair of the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Committee, which he has served on since 1979. Lipe alsoserved as the Information Director for the Northeast-10 from 1980-98, and for the Eastern Football Conference from 1997-2000.

In October 1993, Lipe was honored with induction into theBentley Athletic Hall of Fame. Three years later, he was named a recipientof the Lester Jordan Award, presented by CoSIDA for his contributionsto the Academic All-America® program. In August 2000, he waspresented with the Elmore Hudgens Sports Information Award by theAll-America Football Foundation.

In 2002, Lipe was inducted into the CoSIDA Hall of Fame, andpresented with the Warren Berg Award by CoSIDA and the IrvingMarsh Award by ECAC-SIDA, both for excellence in sports information.In addition, the Northeast-10 presented the longtime Bentley SID withthe inaugural Dick Lipe Media Award. In 2006, Lipe was one of theinaugural inductees into the Northeast-10 Hall of Fame.

A native of Latham, N.Y., Lipe resides in Waltham with his wife,Rosanne. They have one son, Brian (23).

Kyle MackAsst. Sports Information Dir.

Kyle Mack is in his second year asAssistant Sports Information Director. Mack,25, is the primary contact for seven varsitysports, including hockey - Bentley’s onlyDivision I program.

Mack came to Bentley after spendinga year as a graduate assistant in the sportsinformation department at NortheasternUniversity where he covered women’sbasketball and volleyball. Prior to that, he

spent a year as an intern at Manhattan College, covering women’sbasketball among four other sports.

Mack graduated from Iona College in 2006 with a Bachelor ofArts degree in Mass Communications. After graduating, he served asthe media relations intern for the Jamestown Jammers, a Single-A minorleague affiliate of the Florida Marlins. A native of Ocean Grove, N.J.,Mack currently resides in Cambridge.

winningest active New EnglandDivision II women’s volleyballcoach, is in her 28th year asBentley’s head coach. Shereached the 500-win milestoneduring the 2001 season,becoming only the second NewEngland coach to reach theplateau, and notched careerwin number 600 Oct. 22, 2005against Saint Rose. She’s one ofonly six active Division IIcoaches who has achieved thatmilestone.

Her 683 wins ranksfifth amongst active Division IIcoaches and her careerwinning percentage of .698(683-295) is 14th bestamongst coaches with at least 10 years experience.

Under Hoffman’s tutelage, the Bentley program has consistentlyranked amongst the Northeast-10 elite. She received NE-10 Coach ofthe Year honors five straight years from 1985-89, in 2001 and again in2005. Her team has won the regular season conference title outrightnine times (1986-90, 1996, 2001-02 and 2005) and was co-champs in1992 and 1995. In addition, under her guidance, Bentley has capturedthe Northeast-10 playoff championship nine times and been in theNCAA Division II tournament ten times (1993, 1995, 1998, 2001, 2002and the last five seasons). In November 2005, Bentley reached the

Sweet 16 for the first time in theprogram’s history.

Only twice has aHoffman-coached team failed tofinish in the top three of theNortheast-10, and there havebeen 25 winning records in thelast 26 seasons.

Hoffman has been aBentley assistant athleticsdirector since 1990 and herresponsibilities have involved herin virtually every aspect of theathletic department’s operations.

Initial ly, she wasresponsible for physicaleducation, recreation, complianceand student services, includingthe academic tutoring of athletes.More recently, her duties alsoincluded facil ity andintercollegiate scheduling, andmonitoring financial aid.

After a realignment ofthe athletic department in 2000, Hoffman is now responsible for thefiscal affairs of the Bentley athletic program, as well as financial aid.

Prior to being named an assistant athletic director 19 years ago,she served as Recreation Director and the athletic department’sCoordinator of Academic Support Services.

Hoffman is a former member of the NCAA Division II VolleyballCommittee.

A native of Manhasset, N.Y., who now resides in Waltham,Hoffman played four years of varsity volleyball at Springfield beforegraduating in 1980. She received her MBA from Bentley in 1990.

Karrin Moore, a 2006 graduate ofNortheastern University, is in her second yearas Hoffman’s assistant coach.

A four-year letterwinner at NU (2001-04), Moore came to Bentley after a year as anassistant at Wheaton College. Prior to her stintwith the Lyons, she was an assistant for theNortheastern men’s club team, which finishedsecond in the nation in 2005.

During her four seasons as a player atNU, she helped the Huskies to an 84-48 record,

including 42-12 in conference play. In her freshman year, she was partof a Northeastern team that won the America East tournament andearned an NCAA Division I tournament berth. She appeared in nearly80 matches during her career, and recorded 391 kills during her finaltwo seasons.

Moore, who hails from Ahwatukee, Ariz., played for the East ValleyJuniors in her home state and is still active as a player on a USAVwomen’s AA level club team locally.

Moore graduated from Northeastern with a Bachelor of Artsdegree in journalism.

Serving as a volunteer assistant thisseason is Kristen Shockley, Bentley’s AssistantDirector of Graduate Admissions. NE-10 Preseason Favorites Seek Conference Title & NCAA Berth in 2009Expectations, as usual, are high

for the Bentley University women’svolleyball team. That’s not surprisingconsidering that the Falcons are almostalways in the hunt for the Northeast-10 Conference title, have won at least20 matches each of the last eightseasons and have earned an NCAADivision II Regional berth seven of thelast eight falls.

How high are they? Well, thecoaches in the Northeast-10 selectedthe Falcons as the preseason favorite inthe conference, by a slim margin overthe University of New Haven andMerrimack College.

Coach Sandy Hoffman, fifthamong active Division II career wins asshe enters her 28th season at the helm,returns nine of last year’s top ten,although the one loss is a significant one.Tori Piskulick handled Bentley’s settingchores each of the last four years andgraduated as a three-time AVCADivision II All-Region selection and the Falcons’ all-time assist leader(4,604).

Three of the returnees, all seniors, have resumes that includeAll-Northeast-10 honors, a list headed by three-time first-team honoreeand outside hitter Alex Kearney. Cassie Kraft was the 2008Northeast-10 Libero of the Year and a second-team All-NE-10 selection,and middle blocker Kristine Mickelson was chosen for the All-Conference third team after last season. Each of the three have at least100 matches of collegiate experience under their belts.

Kearney has been a steady contributor and a fixture in thelineup for the Falcons since arriving on campus from San Diego in 2006.She’s amassed over 300 kills and 300 digs in each of her first threeseasons, and is one of only four players in the program’s history to havereached the 1,000 career milestone in each of those categories. stays healthy, she could very well threaten Maria Vicens’ school recordtotal of 1,430 kills.

“Alex is just a dynamic outside hitter,” said Hoffman. “She’s thetype of player who can pass and swing, she gets up quick off the flooron defense and can serve receive. That athletic type of outside hitter,when you try to run a quicker offense,is very important.”

The six-one Mickelson, wholike Kearney is from San Diego, hasboosted her numbers each year she’sbeen at Bentley. Last year, her averagesof 2.31 kills and 0.96 blocks wereboth career bests, and her .334 hittingpercentage was up significantly overher first two seasons.

Kraft is back at libero for theFalcons after registering over 500 digseach of her first three seasons. She’sone of three graduates of St. Mary’sHall on the roster, the others beingher sister Maitlyn and freshmanCandace Howell . Both aredefensive specialists.

With Piskulick gone, juniorKelly Mee will take over as the team’ssetter. She gained valuable experienceat the position last year whenHoffman split playing time betweenthe two. Mee averaged 4.14 assists,and also displayed the ability to bothblock and attack the ball.

Other returnees for the Falcons are middle blocker AlauraBerry and outside hitters Andrea Farah, Morgan O’Laughlin andVirginia Wong.

Berry, a six-foot junior, and Wong, a sophomore who was namedto the NE-10 All-Freshman team in 2008, saw the most action out ofthe four. Berry led the team in hitting at .375, the second highest singleseason mark in the program’s history, and Wong was third on the clubin kills, making 2.3 per set. O’Laughlin, who averaged 1.4 kills and hit.240, and Farah, who’ll make the move to the outside from the middle,will both be in the mix for playing time.

Hoffman added fourfreshmen to the roster this year,with outside hitter Amy Waitkusthe most likely of the quartet tomake significant contributions in2009. Bridget Lawson andGrace Conner, both six-foot-two, will add depth at the middleblocker position.

The Northeast-10 projectsto be very competitive this seasonwith several teams who couldcontend for the title, includingBentley. The conference will havea new look this fall, with theaddition of Adelphi Universityboosting the membership to 16teams.

As always, Hoffman hasassembled a diff icult non-conference schedule, including athree-match trip to FloridaColumbus Day weekend. TheFalcons will open at the DowlingInvitational, and will host twotournaments in September.

B E N T L E Y U N I V E R S I T YSince its modest beginning as theNortheast-7 in 1979, today the nation’smost comprehensive Division IIconference has evolved into amembership committed tocompetitive athletics programs thatemphasize the education on and offthe field of its more than 5,500student athletes.

Today’s Northeast-10 Conferenceremains focused on complementing the academic integrity and missionsof the member institutions with a commitment to a broad-basedchampionship program, as evidenced by the 23 sports the Conferenceoffers in championship play, the most such of any Division II conference.

The 16 member institutions are spread geographically from Syracuse,New York to Boston, Massachusetts and Burlington, Vermont to LongIsland, New York. Many of the members are located in or around theurban metropolitan areas of Albany, Boston, New Haven, Worcesterand New York.

A conference tournament has been conducted in volleyball annuallysince 1981, and a regular season champion has been crowned since1986. Bentley has captured at least a share of the regular season title11 times, winning it outright in 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1996,2001, 2002 and 2005, and sharing it in 1992 and 1995. The Falconshave also taken the tournament title nine times (1985, 1986, 1988, 1989,1991, 1995, 2001, 2002 and 2006).

The Northeast-10 also crowns champions in baseball, men’s and women’sbasketball, men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, golf, ice hockey,men’s and women’s indoor track, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’sand women’s outdoor track, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, men’sand women’s swimming, men’s and women’s tennis, and women’svolleyball.
