Dr. Dianne Boardley Suber
When Dianne Boardley Suber arrived on the campus of Saint Augustine’s College in 1999 to take the helm as president, she saw great potential in Saint Augustine’s College. It was an institution that had long established a tradition of educational excellence but was now at a crossroad in continuing that legacy and moving forward in a society which was quickly becoming more competitive, more technologically driven and more globally positioned. Dr. Suber’s response to these changing trends was her Five Points of Vision, aimed at catapulting Saint Augustine’s College in the areas of Fiscal Responsibility; Academic Excellence; Student Leadership and Professional Development; Athletic Performance and Academic Achievement; and Learning Environment and Campus Climate.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITYThe College is committed to maintaining fiscal responsibility and accountability in all operations, programs, and facilities. The College meets acceptable principles of accounting and meets all standards of accreditation. The College continues to increase private, constituent, and agency support, and build a continuous endowment to ensure financial solvency and stability.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCEThe College is committed to the recruitment and retention of competent and notable faculty who understand and practice. Indicators
include, but are not exclusive to, the creation of endowed faculty positions, an increased number of tenured faculty, and increased scholarship support to student scholars and potential scholars; creating an academic support system and rigorous learning environment.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP AND PROFESSIONALDEVELOPMENTThe College is committed to developing and nurturing a diverse pool of future leaders and change agents and serving as a resource center on leadership development and leadership effectiveness, advancing the work of leaders in fostering change. The College will expand
I envision Saint Augustine’s College in the 21st century as ranking among the top 25 black private colleges and universities in the United States of America.”

opportunities for career and professional success that meet the expectations of its students, aligning its resources and program priorities to meet the challenges of preparing its graduates to be leaders and agents of change.
ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTThe College is committed to insuring that athletics is an integral part of the higher education experience. Student athletes are enriched by the collegiate athletic experience and are better educated and prepared for lifelong achievement and successes.
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AND CAMPUS CLIMATEThe College is committed to expanding and enhancing a community that maintains appropriate facilities, programs, and practices and policies that enable students, faculty and staff to maximize the college experience through continuous growth in academic, athletic, spiritual, physical and cultural development. The College achieves a safe, secure, healthy, inviting, harmonious and aesthetically pleasing environment designed to support the College’s mission and vision.

“It is my hope that one day whenpeople hear the name
Saint Augustine’s Collegethey won’t just think, ‘that’s an
HBCU ’ but they’ll say that’s where thepresident of the United States
graduated from”Dianne Boardley Suber
appearing on the Fox News Channel.
As the 10th president and first female to hold the position at Saint Augustine’s College, Dr. Suber has positioned the College to be among the pre-eminent academic institutions of our times. She has achieved this by leading the College past a series of milestones which have spurred growth, increased capacity, and sparked a renewed evolution of educational excellence that has been manifested by a historic litany of distinctive accomplishments.
Dr. Suber is committed to the expansion and edification of the campus environment. As a result she initiated major construction and renovation projects in keeping with that committment. Falkcrest Dr. Suber oversaw the construction and unveiling of a new 336-bed residential facility designed to enhance student life on campus. Falkcrest is a state of the art complex made up of four separate three-story buildings complete with contemporary architecture and picturesque landscaping. Falkcrest is the most sought after accommodations among
students, who prefer the apartment style suites with amenities such as cable television and Internet access. Dr. Suber also oversaw the renovations of Emery Gymnasium and the Martin Luther King, Jr. building, which included the renovation of a state of the art dining facility.
The George Williams Athletic Complex History was made when Saint Augustine’s College broke ground on the construction of the George Williams Athletic Complex. Dr. Suber’s vision to recognize the winning legacy of legendary St. Aug alumnus and track and field coach George “Pup” Williams would be realized in the construction of a world-class track and field facility and athletic stadium that will play host to college sports events as well as community activities.Saint Agnes Hospital Restoration Dr. Suber executed the plan to restore the Saint Agnes Hospital, establishing the Saint Agnes Health Disparities Institute. Upon completion, the Institute will serve as a training facility for students in healthcare and social services and be a facility which addresses the health concerns of residents in the surrounding community by providing diagnostic screenings and information promoting health and wellness.
Under Dr. Suber’s leadership, Saint Augustine’s College student enrollment has experienced significant increases. The College boasts an average enrollment of approximately 1,500 new and returning students from across the globe.

RELATIONSHIPS
Cooke Street Redevelopment Saint Augustine’s College has successfully completed the outstanding Cooke Street Project with 13 single family homes and over $1.3 million dollars of investment in this community. The project was initiated as a partnership between Saint Augustine’s College and the City of Raleigh. The Cooke Street Project is only one phase of a Dr. Suber’s commitment to edifying the campus community as well as the Southeast Raleigh neighborhoods which surrounds it.
Acquisition of Historic Meadowbrook Dr. Suber’s decision to acquire the historic Meadowbrook Golf Course and Country Club reflects the College’s commitment to continue the legacy that was began more than 50 years ago by African-American community residents who wanted to give blacks a “place of their own” when they were not allowed in white country clubs in a segregated South. The acquisition of the property by Saint Augustine’s College was heralded as an investment in the future of the African-American community.
“Fulfilling the Promise” Capital CampaignIn keeping with the College’s commitment to remain financially sustained, Dr. Suber supported the initiation of a five-year capital campaign designed to secure the College’s financial future. The campaign, themed, “Fulfilling The Promise, A Campaign for the Future of Saint Augustine’s College,” began with a goal of $25 million, which includes institutional scholarship support, capital improvements, and institutional endowment growth.
Quality academic programming which supports the development of students prepared to compete in a global society was paramount to Dr. Suber’s vision for the College. Unique and progressive programs established under her leadership include degree programs in Biomedical and Scientific Communications, Criminal Justice and Forensic Science, establishing the Gateway Program for adult learners, and the creation of the Real Estate Management and Development program; the first undergraduate real estate program in North Carolina.
Ensuring financial solvency was one of the primary goals Dr. Suber set for the College when she began her role as its first female president. The College has adhered to this mandate of fiscal responsibility and accountability, and has established itself as a financially solid entity with a broad base of donor support, which continues to abound. Increases in alumni giving, grants, and corporate gifts are also a testament to Suber’s committment to make the institution financially sound

Point of Falcon Pride:FOOTBALL AND MARCHING BAND RETURN TO CAMPUS
Dr. Suber is credited with reinstating the Falcon football program after the College went without a program for more than 37 years. President Suber believed that a strong, athletic program should support the College’s emphasis on developing students with athletic prowess as well as mental acumen. The debut of the Falcon Marching Band was a momentous occasion on the campus of Saint Augustine’s College. President Suber was certain that the establishment of a marching band would capture the true essence of the “HBCU experience.”
President Dianne Boardley Suber greets President Barack Obama at the White House where she was
invited to witness the president’s signing of an executive order supporting Historically Black Colleges
and Universities.
