BROADCAST SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
ANNOUNCERS
Mike Shannon - Announcer, former Cardinal outfield/third baseman
John Rooney -Announcer, former Chicago White Sox radio play-by-play
announcer for 17 years.
AUTOMATION
The automation relay closures are as follows:

Please contact an engineer at Learfield Communications (573) 893-1955 for specific instructionson how to utilize the automation closures on the receiver. If you experience problems with the
automation system please contact Learfield engineers at (573) 893-1955 immediately so we can
determine the problem.
The Beginning of the Game will either be the open billboard for the On-Deck program or on
spring training games the Dugout open billboard and on weekday spring training open game
billboard at the time listed on the broadcast schedule.
We will provide a relay (#2) for all mandatory local breaks. We have indicated on the format
when these relays will occur for easy reference.
REMEMBER: A relay will occur at every 2 minute mandatory break including the between
breaks of the pre-game shows.
We will provide a relay (#3) for all pitching changes. We will feed crowd noise at a very low
level during pitching change breaks. There are no local breaks for extra innings therefore a relay
is not needed.

AUTOMATION CONTINUED
Rain Delays - The Network will fill all rain delays from either announcers or KTRS staff liveor pre-recorded interviews or historical highlights. We will take a two minute (2:00) rain delay
local commercial break approximately every 10 minutes during a rain delay. We will trigger
Relay #4 for these rain delay breaks. We will feed crowd noise at a very low level during the
breaks.
Doubleheaders - The Network will fill between all doubleheader games with KTRS staff liveor pre-recorded interviews or historical highlights. We will take a two minute (2:00) local
commercial break (Relay #4) approximately every 10 minutes between doubleheaders. We will
feed crowd noise at a very low level during the breaks.
The end of broadcast relay (#6) is at the end of the Cardinal Radio Network programming (cue:
and goodnight from location) which would trigger your programming that airs following the
game.
The Relay #7 for the Shelter Insurance Spots will trigger the Shelter commercials that select
stations will be sent that include the agent tag information for your specific area.
If your station is not receiving any of the automation triggers during any given game please
e-mail me immediately at [email protected]. Please provide time and trigger that was
not provided and we will check the Learfield and KTRS logs.
CLOSED CIRCUIT FEEDS
Beginning one-hour before each St. Louis Cardinal broadcast, the NETWORK will provide
music with closed circuit time countdown starting 30 minutes prior to the starting time listed on
your broadcast schedule. A final 3, 2 and 1 minute warning will precede each broadcast. If youare not receiving the closed circuit feed please contact Learfield at 573-893-1955.
COMMERCIAL CUES
During game action the NETWORK and LOCAL commercial cues will be the score.
EXAMPLE: "...three runs...on two hits and nobody left...
after three innings. Cardinals lead Philadelphia 4-0."
EXTRA INNINGS
If a game goes into extra innings a NETWORK commercial (2:00) will be scheduled at the end
of the 9th inning...as well as the end of each full inning until the game is completed. When the
game does end the "end of the game format" will then be used.

The Cardinal Radio Network FTP Website will be your information highway. We will post all
the Cardinal Radio Network information on the FTP website including game wrap-ups, time
changes, affidavits, highlights, player promos, affiliate map, logos, billboard music, bumper
sticker templates, ad slicks, etc.

PITCHING CHANGE POSITIONS DURING GAME ACTION
If there is a pitching change during game action (as opposed to between innings) a cue will be
provided for a LOCAL2:00 commercial position.
Cue: "...the (team name) are making a pitching change.
Well be right back.
This is a mandatory break. The announcers will NOT be filling pitching changes. We will feed
low level crowd noise during the break.
SATELLITE DISTRIBUTION
The Cardinals Baseball Network complete broadcast signal is distributed by Learfield
Communications, Inc. [Jefferson City, MO (573) 893-1955]. All broadcasts will be available on:

Music will be fed down the satellite one hour prior to dugout start for your monitoring purposes.

SHELTER INSURANCE COMMERCIALS
Shelter Insurance is once again a sponsor of the St. Louis Cardinals on the Cardinal Baseball
Network (regular season only). Shelter Insurance will provide commercial(s) with tags that
name the participating agents ONLY in specific areas. We thank you in advance for your help in
covering the network spots throughout the season.
The Shelter Commercials will be located on the Cardinal Radio Network FTP website for easy
access by your traffic department. We plan to load them on the website in mid-March.
On the website you will click on Shelter Commercials then Click on your State. Commercials
are sorted by station call letters. Please note you may have more than 1 commercial to rotate.
The Shelter Insurance commercial is scheduled to air in the following position for all games
again this season:
END 3rd (first :30 position of the 2 minute network break)
If there is more than one (1) commercial listed for your station on the FTP website please rotate
them equally.
Those stations that automate we will trigger the Relay #7 for the shelter Insurance spots.
So once you load them in your automation you are set.
STATION IDENTIFICATION BREAKS
The NETWORK will provide :15 second cutaway positions on the hour and half-hour for local

The Tony LaRussa Show precedes the Dugout Show by 11 1/2 minutes. It is scheduled for everyregular season game only!
The program features Mike Shannon and Tony LaRussa, the manager. The first audio from the
network occurs 30 seconds (:30) after the listed Tony LaRussa Show start time allowing for a 30
second (:30) local billboard.
DUGOUT INTERVIEW
The Dugout Interview precedes opening game billboard by 10 minutes.
It is scheduled for every regular season game and Saturday and Sunday and Friday, April 3rd
Spring Training Games only.
The program features Mike Shannon and a guest. The first audio from the network occurs 30
seconds (:30) after the listed Dugout Show start time allowing for a 30 second (:30) local
billboard.
NETWORK OPENING GAME BILLBOARD
The NETWORK GAME OPENING BILLBOARD will occur at the times listed in the column
labeled Game Broadcast Open Billboard Start of the broadcast schedule. Please refer to your
broadcast schedule for exact times.

POST GAME PROGRAMMING
STAR OF THE GAME
The Star of the Game post game program is scheduled for regular season only...official games. In
the event of a rain out or suspended regular season game the Star of the Game is cancelled.
This program does NOT follow the first game of a doubleheader.
The LOCAL station billboard should start (3:00) after:
"...the Star of the Game is up next"
This program features John Rooney and a guest.
CARDINALS SCOREBOARD
This program is scheduled for all regular season games and Saturday and Sunday and Friday,
April 3, 2009, Spring Training games only.
This program does NOT air after the first game of a doubleheader.
Cardinal Scoreboard is used as an interview program in spring training. During Spring Trainingthe scoreboard show will begin with announcers at 3:30 following the play of the game.
In the event of a rain out or suspended regular season game the Cardinal Scoreboard is cancelled.
The Cardinals Scoreboard Opening Billboard rolls (1:30) after:

DOUBLEHEADER NOTES
There will not be a Star of the Game or Scoreboard program following the first game.
There will not be an On-Deck, LaRussa Show or Dugout Show prior to the start of the second
game.
The Network will fill between all doubleheader games with KTRS staff live or pre-recorded
interviews or historical highlights. We will take a two minute (2:00) local commercial break
(Relay #4) approximately every 10 minutes between doubleheaders.
The second Game Network Opening Game Billboard start time will be given over the air prior to
the Network Closing Game Billboard for Game One for those stations that prefer not to carry the
network programming between the doubleheader.
Approximate time between games is 15 minutes.

INCLEMENT WEATHER NOTES
Only regular season postponed games are made good. Stations will be notified in writing on new
date...time...format, etc.
The Network will fill all rain delays with either announcer or KTRS staff live or pre-recorded
interviews or historical highlights. We will take a two minute (2:00) rain delay local commercial
break approximately every 10 minutes during a rain delay. We will trigger Relay #4 for these
rain delay breaks.
Procedures for CANCELLED games:
1. Cardinals Radio Broadcasts cancelled for any reason before the On-Deck Show airs, the
KTRS producer will make an estimated 30 second announcement (see example below)
down the network at the On-Deck airtime. Then KTRS producer will trigger the End of
Broadcast Relay #6 following the announcement so your automation systems will
advance to your next programming eliminating any dead air.
Announcement Example: Todays (tonights) St. Louis Cardinals Baseball game
against the Houston Astros has been cancelled due to the weather in St. Louis (or
Houston). This is the St. Louis Cardinals Radio Network. Once again todays
(tonights) St Louis Cardinals Baseball game against the Houston Astros has been
cancelled due to the weather in St. Louis (or Houston). This is the St. Louis
Cardinals Radio Network.
2. If a Cardinals Radio Broadcast is cancelled during the game (after the pre-game shows
air) we will not air any post game shows. The announcers will advise of the
cancellation, wrap up the broadcast and the KTRS producer will trigger the end of
broadcast relay #6 following the announcers closing the game. Therefore, your
automation systems will advance to your next programming.

AFFIDAVITS OF PERFORMANCE
As you will note in the broadcast rights agreement, you are required to submit affidavits of
performance for all Cardinal games carried on your station.
In an effort to simplify this task, an affidavit form will be e-mailed to you following each month
listing all games on the Cardinal broadcast schedule. ALL AFFIDAVITS WILL BE POSTEDON THE FTP WEBSITE MONTHLY. You need only indicate any variance from the
schedule, NOTARIZE, and return via mail or fax. The use of this form is optional. If you
choose not to use the form supplied, an affidavit of performance must still be received on a
monthly basis.

AFFILIATE EVENT
The St. Louis Cardinal Affiliate Event is the one opportunity we have each year to salute our
affiliates and thank you for your support of the Cardinals throughout the year.
This season the Affiliate Event will take place on April 8 and April 9, 2009, vs. the
Pittsburgh Pirates with accommodations at the Hyatt Regency (formerly the Adams Mark) Hotel
in St. Louis.
Although you will be receiving a formal invitation shortly for two station representatives to
attend, please mark your calendar now so that you can join us in April. We are planning a
program on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00pm versus the breakfast on Thursday morning. So plan
to arrive early on Wednesday.

ON-AIR ANNOUNCEMENTS
If your station is involved in a charity project or if you are celebrating an anniversary as a
Cardinal baseball affiliate, please submit a request in writing, and an effort will be made to have
one of the broadcast announcers make mention over the network. However, please remember
that the broadcast time is limited, and requests will be carefully screened. Copy must also be
received well in advance of the event, preferably three to four weeks.
PERSONALIZED PROMOTIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
If your station has a special promotion, i.e., a group coming to a ballgame or a station promotion
involving ticket give-aways, please send a script to the our offices. Arrangements can be made
to have the announcement recorded by Mike Shannon or John Rooney and we can e-mail them to
stations in MP3 format.
Please note, however, that these announcements may not make mention of any advertisers. The
announcements can only promote the station itself and the St. Louis Cardinals. These requests
should be submitted via e-mail, fax or mail to:

In the event that your station requires other promotional items with the St. Louis Cardinal logo, we
will be happy to review your request.
USE OF THE ST. LOUIS CARDINAL LOGO
Although we encourage you to promote the St. Louis Cardinals and your individual broadcasts on alocal level, please be advised that there are a number of Major League Baseball restrictions
regarding the reproduction and use of the Cardinal trademarks. Because of these restrictions, your
affiliation contract does not include the automatic right to reproduce the logo(s) for any
purpose.
Reproduction of the logo(s) requires special authorization based on planned usage, i.e., billboards,
print materials and merchandise. It is particularly important for you to obtain prior approval if
your marketing plan includes the use of the logo or player photographs. In order to obtain
formal authorization and to ensure compliance with Major League Baseball rules, it will be
necessary for you to submit a formal request in writing along with a sample of the usage outlining
the specific way in which the logo(s) will be displayed. These requests should be submitted to:

February 13th.
