The butterfly has long been a

Christian symbol of resurrection.

The caterpillar, which just eats, symbolises

normal earthly life where people are preoccupied with

taking care of their physical needs.

The chrysalis resembles the tomb.

The butterfly, emerging from the chrysalis ,

represents Christ rising from the

grave.

The butterfly is also one of the

symbols embroidered in a cushion on the pulpit bench.
