A MESSAGE FROM ROY KAISER
This season will be my 30th year with Pennsylvania Ballet and 15th as Artistic Director. With your support, we have grown to become one of the premier ballet companies in the country.
I have selected ballets for the upcoming season to uplift, stimulate, provoke, and astound. The dancers and artistic staff have never worked harder to ensure that each ballet will be an extraordinary experience.
I hope you will join us for a spectacular season, highlighted by our return to the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC again this fall when we show the nation that outstanding ballet thrives in Philadelphia.
Celebrate with us.
Artists featured: Principal Dancers Riolama Lorenzo, Julie Diana, Arantxa Ochoa; Soloist Brooke Moore; Katelyn Prominski and Ian Hussey

“...passion and power ...that exemplifies the romantic ideal.”
Ellie Carr, Sunday Herald, Edinburgh, Scotland

The dancers are the soul of the Company. They thrive on the diversity of our repertoire, which is the lifeblood of our Company. The repertoire nurtures and feeds the dancers as they infuse each ballet with their stunning artistry and compelling vitality.
Every ballet company has its own organic life. Pennsylvania Ballet is defined by bold, impassioned performances of innovative and classic work.
You, our audience, are a part of that life. You challenge and sustain me in my commitment to create an exceptional body of work with an extraordinary company of dancers.
I welcome you to our new season.
The resolve of the dancers in the pursuit of their art is an ongoing inspiration to me as I assemble any season.

“John Cranko created a body of work that established him as a master story teller through movement. His powerful work, Romeo and Juliet, explores the relationship between the two central characters and demands pristine technique and emotional depth from the performers.

“One of the foremost choreographers of contemporary dance, William Forsythe’s highly innovative works have changed the way we look at and think about classical movement. He has enlarged the physical dimensions of the art form and has stretched the boundaries of flexibility and balance.”

“Jerome Robbins’s vast body of work included not only ballet, but also musical theater and film. Mr. Robbins was known as a perfectionist. His ballets demand strict musicality, a unique sense of character and great attention to nuance.”

“Ballets created for our own dancers, such as the work of our Choreographer in Residence Matthew Neenan, establish the Company’s uniqueness and stimulate the growth of the art form.”

“Only the most highly regarded ballet companies in the world are invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. This is our sixth invitation since 1979. We will be the first company to perform George Balanchine’s esteemed version of The Nutcracker in the nation’s capital.”
CHOREOGRAPHY/MUSIC:Balanchine/Tschaikovsky Photos: Soloist Brooke Moore; Adrianna de Svastich and Abigail Mentzer
“George Balanchine’s ballets are the standard by which all ballets are measured. They demand a level of precision and stylistic sensitivity that requires our dancers to utilize their full measure of technical and artistic virtuosity.”
