The Bruins finished the regular season ranked fifth nationally in scoring offense (40.5) and eighth in total offense (482.6). NEW ORLEANS, La.-Running back Anthony Dixon rambled for 141 yards and two touchdowns to spark a 489-yard effort by the Mississippi State offense as the Tulane University football team dropped a 38-17 decision to the Bulldogs in the Green Wave’s season opener in the Louisiana Su-perdome. Junior linebacker James Dillard posted a career-best 16 tackles - 10 solo stops to go along with six assists - and forced a fumble, but it was not enough as the Bulldog defense held Tulane to just 49 yards and no first downs in the second half. The Green Wave turned the ball over three times on the day - two fumbles and an interception - and Mississippi State turned them into a trio of touchdowns. Junior quarterback Scott Elliott completed 15-of-26 passes for 197 yards and a score. But on the third play of the game, Elliott had a pass tipped at the line of scrimmage that linebacker Gabe O’Neal plucked it out of the air and returned 47 yards for the opening score of the ballgame. The Green Wave came right back with a 61-yard drive on the ensuing possession, capped by a 39-yard touchdown run by senior running back Matt Forté. The Bulldogs, however, turned a Forté fumble later in the quar-ter into a score as quarterback Michael Henig found paydirt on an 18-yard scramble to put Mississippi State ahead, 14-7. As it had done the first time the Bulldogs scored, Tulane answered with a touchdown of its own - this time culminating with an eight-yard pass from Elliott to sophomore fullback Jeremy McKinney to tie things up. The two teams traded field goals in the second quarter to make it a 17-all ballgame at halftime, but the Bulldogs began to assert themselves from there as they took the opening kickoff and drove 61 yards on nine plays to take a 24-17 lead 3:30 into the third quarter. Mississippi State took advantage of a short field following another Tu-lane fumble five drives later as Dixon ran over left guard for a 27-yard touchdown jaunt to stake the Bulldogs to a 14-point lead. Dixon capped the scoring with a seven-yard run over right guard with 9:33 left to play in regulation. The Bulldogs amassed 192 of their 266 rushing after the bands played, including 91 second-half yards by Dixon. Justin Williams added to the MSU rushing totals with 60 yards on nine carries while Christian Ducré chipped in with 46 yards on nine totes. State quarterback Michael Henig completed 20-of-31 passes for 223 yards and a touchdown, while Jamayel

Smith paced the aerial attack with four grabs for 53 yards. The Green Wave defense tallied six tackles for loss against the Bulldogs, including sacks by defensive ends Lo-gan Kelley and Reg-gie Scott. Dillard and Kelley both forced fumbles and senior cornerback Carlis Jackson posted his first career intercep-tion with a pick of Henig in the first quar-ter.

NEW ORLEANS, La.-David Skehan picked off a pair of passes and Casey Robottom hauled in four passes for 115 yards, but it was not enough as Tulane dropped a 34-10 decision to Conference USA foe Houston in the Louisiana Superdome. The Cougars tallied 505 yards of total offense, including 87 yards rush-ing and 49 yards receiving by running back Anthony Alridge. Houston quarterbacks threw a pair of balls to Skehan in the first half, but scored on every other possession over the first 30 minutes to take a 24-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Green Wave defense stiffened in the second half, but the Cougars still managed 10 more points as Alridge scored on a 49-yard pass from Blake Joseph in the third quarter and T.J. Lawrence connected on a 33-yard field goal in the fourth. Tulane avoided the shutout with a 28-yard field goal by Ross Thevenot with 7:16 left to play, and closed out the scoring when Kevin Moore con-nected with Chris Dunn from six yards out with 32 seconds remaining. Robottom showed the knack for making the big play with a 42-yard re-ception from Elliott in the second quarter and a 41-yard catch from Moore in the fourth. His receiving yardage was the most by a Tulane rookie since Robert Griffin had 126 yards on six catches vs. Air Force on Oct. 18, 1980. Evan Lee paced the Tulane defense with a career-high 12 tackles, in-cluding eight solo stops, while Josh Lumar was next with seven. The Green Wave defense forced three turnovers on the night as Joe Goosby recov-ered a fumble caused by Matt Harding during the fourth quarter. Lawrence put Houston on the board early by capping a seven-play, 53-yard opening drive with a 33-yard field goal 2:59 into the ballgame. It quickly became a 10-0 affair as Houston’s Cody Lubojasky picked off a Scott Elliott pass just over six minutes later and returned it 62 yards to set up a six-yard touchdown jaunt by Alridge. From there, the Cougar defense forced a Tulane punt, and Houston em-barked on a 14-play, 64-yard drive that culminated with a Case Keenum-to-Mark Hafner, nine-yard scoring strike to push the lead to 17. Four drives later, Houston capped its first-half scoring when reserve Blake Joseph hooked up with Teric Williams from 27 yards to make a 24-0 ballgame. Matt Forté led the Tulane offensive attack with 85 yards rushing and tied for the team lead with four receptions for another 22 yards through the air. While Alridge head-

lined the Cougar at-tack, he had plenty of help as Terrance Ganaway ran for 82 yards on eight carries as well. Joseph came off the bench to com-plete 10-of-12 passes for 113 yards and two scores and Donnie Avery was the favorite target of the UH sig-nal callers, hauling in seven passes for 103 yards.

NEW ORLEANS, La.-Senior running back Matt Forté rushed for a Tulane and C-USA record 303 yards and five touchdowns as Tulane defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 35-27, in the Louisiana Superdome. Down by six at the break, the Green Wave went to their All-American candidate and Forté responded with 177 yards and three scores on 25 carries in the second half alone. Forté averaged 7.6 yards per carry for the night and his 312 all-purpose yards ranks second in Tulane single-game history. His 303 rushing yards breaks the previous team record of 249 set by Mewelde Moore vs. Cincinnati on Oct. 6, 2001. The former C-USA rushing record was 300 yards, set by Houston’s Joffrey Reynolds vs. East Carolina on Nov. 9, 2002. Forté’s five TDs eclipsed the previous mark of four set by Charles “Peggy” Flournoy vs. Louisiana Tech on Nov. 7, 1925 and tied by Tony Converse vs. Louisiana Tech on Nov. 26, 1998 and tied him with five other student-athletes for the C-USA standard. Southeastern Louisiana drew first blood as Donald Frazier returned a blocked punt 12 yards for a touchdown midway through the first quarter. But Forté tied the game with a 20-yard run on the ensuing possession to cap a seven-play, 50-yard Green Wave drive. Forté struck again with a 21-yard jaunt in the second quarter to give Tulane a 14-7 lead, but the Lions roared right back with 22- and 37-yard field goals by Jeff Turner and a 63-yard scoring strike from Brian Babin to Merrick Laneaux to make it a 20-14 ballgame at halftime. Going into the second half, the Tulane defense stiffened. After allow-ing 232 yards on 38 plays in the first two quarters, the Green Wave held Southeastern Louisiana to just 109 yards in 39 plays following the break, including just 25 rushing yards on 13 carries. While the defense caged the Lion offense, Forté carried Tulane the rest of the way with three- and four-yard touchdown runs in the third quarter and an 11-yard dive in the fourth to give the Green Wave a commanding 35-20 advantage. Southeastern Louisiana capitalized on a Tulane turn-over late in the fourth quarter when Babin connected with Byron Ross for a 14-yard touchdown, but that would be the Lions’ final possession as Forté and the Tulane offense were able to run out the clock from there. Senior defensive back Joe Goosby, who lined up at linebacker for most

of the ballgame, as the Green Wave took the field primarily in a nickel defense, led Tulane with a career-high with 16 tackles. Senior defensive line-man Antonio Harris, meanwhile, posted career-high marks in tackles (11), tackles for loss (4.0 for 16 yards lost) and sacks (3.0 for 15 yards lost).

NEW ORLEANS, La.-The Green Wave defense posted a season-high six sacks – including two by defensive tackle Antonio Harris – and running back Matt Forté tallied 105 all-purpose yards, but it was not enough as the Tulane University football team dropped a 34-9 decision to No. 2 LSU in the Louisiana Superdome. The Green Wave gave the Tigers all they could handle throughout the first 30 minutes of play, and took a 9-7 advantage when running back An-dré Anderson scored from five yards out with 1:40 to go before halftime. From there, however, LSU closed out the half with a 36-yard field goal and scored 24 unanswered points in the second half to earn the victory. Clinging to a one-point lead at halftime, the Tigers roared out of the game in the second half. LSU’s Trindon Holliday got things going with a 26-yard kickoff return, and 11 plays later, Colt David kicked a 33-yard field goal to extend the lead to 13-9. Tulane fumbled on the ensuing possession and the turnover proved to be costly as Jacob Hester ran one yard over left guard five plays later to make it a 20-9 ballgame with 5:53 left to play in the third quarter. It re-mained an 11-point affair the rest of the stanza, but LSU tacked on a pair of touchdowns in the final period to make the score more lopsided than the action on the field played out. Tiger running back Charles Scott capped an eight-play, 76-yard drive with a 35-yard scamper with 12 minutes left to play, and hit paydirt again with a three-yard run less than four minutes later to account for the final score. LSU opened the scoring with a three-yard run by Hester less than five minutes into the ballgame, but the Green Wave got on the board in the second quarter when the Tigers were called for holding in their own end-zone for a safety to make it a 7-2 contest. The Tulane defense did its part, holding the Tigers out of the endzone the rest of the half, and Anderson capped an 11-play, 58-yard drive with a five-yard jaunt before LSU started its comeback. Middle linebacker Evan Lee posted a career high in tackles for the sec-ond time in 2007 with 13 tackles against the Tigers, while strong safety Joe Goosby and weak-side backer James Dillard followed with seven apiece. Harris led the Green Wave sack attack with two, Lee was next with one and a half, and the duo of Frank Morton and Adam Kwentua each had one. Forté led all players with 73 yards rushing, while Anderson tallied 18 on

seven carries. Making his first collegiate start under center, quarter-back Anthony Scelfo completed 11-of-26 passes for 117 yards. Tight end Gabe Rat-cliff and wide receiver Brian King led the Tu-lane aerial attack with four catches each.

WEST POINT, N.Y.-Matt Forté ran for 202 yards and two scores, but it was not enough as the Tulane University football team dropped a 20-17 overtime decision to the Army Black Knights at Michie Stadium. With the score knotted at 17-all at the end of regulation, Army place kicker Owen Tolson kicked a 25-yard field goal during the opening posses-sion of the overtime to provide the Black Knights with their final points of the ballgame. The Green Wave had a chance to tie or win the game with a touchdown during their possession of OT, but after being stopped on third down, Ross Thevenot’s 34-yard field goal try sailed just left of the upright to spark the Army celebration. The Green Wave led 17-10 with four second remaining when Army quarterback Kevin Dunn threw a Hail Mary pass into the endzone. The ball was tipped around, but Mike Wright snared the ball on the way down and managed to get his left toe in bounds to set up the game-tying PAT with no time remaining in regulation. With 202 yards on the ground, Forté becomes the first player in Tulane history to run for 200-plus yards three times in their career. Following a scoreless first quarter, Forté gave the Green Wave an early 7-0 lead, capping a 12-play, 80-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run with 11:28 left to play in the second half. Army responded with a 27-yard scoring strike from Carson Williams to Jeremy Trimble, but Tulane came back with a 46-yard field goal with 19 seconds remaining in the half to give Tulane a 10-7 advantage going into the locker room at halftime. Forté gave the Green Wave a commanding 10-point lead in the third quarter with a 33-yard run, but that would be the final points Tulane would score on the day. Army inched closer with a 36-yard field goal with 1:40 left to play, and following an unsuccessful on-side kick attempt, the Black Knights defense forced a three-and-out to get the ball back at their own 20 yard line with 29 seconds left to play. Dunn made big plays on Army’s final drive, connecting with Wright for 27 yards and with Mike Evans for another 17 before the Black Knights had their prayers answered on the tipped pass in the endzone. Quarterback Anthony Scelfo completed 16-of-25 passes for 154 yards, and Forté was his favorite target with five receptions for 45 yards. The Green Wave defense posted their third consecutive five-plus sack

game with five Sat-urday night against Army, including a career-best two by sophomore defensive end Adam Kwentua. Strong safety Joe Goosby, cornerback Josh Lumar and line-backer David Kirksey led the Wave with eight tackles each.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Matt Forté ran for 209 yards and a touchdown, and Jeremy Williams posted a career-best 133 receiving yards, but it was not enough as Tulane dropped a 26-21 decision to Conference USA foe UAB at Legion Field. Tulane trailed 26-14 with four minutes remaining in the ballgame and the Green Wave made things interesting when Williams hauled in a six-yard scoring strike from Anthony Scelfo with 2:06 remaining. Following a failed on-side kick attempt, the Green Wave had another chance to score as the Tulane defense forced a three-and-out. The Wave drove 24 yards to 44 yard line, but Kevin Moore’s heave downfield on fourth-and-20 fell harm-lessly to the ground to thwart the come-back attempt. Tulane out-gained UAB in total offense, 504-372, but saw 12 penalties halt drives. A pair of interceptions also cost the Green Wave as both came deep inside Blazer’s territory. Things went well for Tulane early on as Forté put the Wave on the board first with a eight-yard scoring run with 11:36 left to play in the first half. UAB tied the ballgame shortly thereafter as Frantrell Forrest returned the ensu-ing kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown. The Green Wave got the points right back when Scelfo connected with Brian King for a 31-yard scoring strike just over three minutes later. On the next drive, the Blazers drove 83 yards down the field and caught a lucky break as Dexter Barnett fumbled near the goal line, only to fall on it in the endzone for a touchdown. UAB kicker Swayze Waters, however, missed the PAT and couldn’t con-nect from 33-yards out at the end of the half as the Green Wave went into the locker room leading 14-13. The Blazers wasted little time establishing control of the game early in the second half as Sam Hunt connected with Forrest for a 57-yard strike to give UAB a first down at the Tulane 17 and capped the drive with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Webb to put the home team ahead 20-14. The score remained that way for the rest of the third quarter, but Waters opened the fourth with a 47-yard field goal and addeda 21-yarder three possessions later to give the Blazers a comfortable 26-14 lead. Scelfo led the Green Wave 80 yards on 10 plays, capping it with his

six-yard pass to Wil-liams, to make things interesting, but follow-ing Moore’s Hail Mary attempt, UAB knelt on the ball to milk the final seconds off the clock. Scelfo posted career-best numbers across the board Satur-day against UAB, com-pleting 19-of-37 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns. Williams led seven players with at least one grab with six, while King and Forté followed with four each. Josh Lumar and Evan Lee paced the defensive effort with seven tackles each.

DALLAS, Texas-Matt Forté ran for a Tulane and Conference USA record 342 yards, and Reggie Scott forced a game-clinching fumble with a sack of Mustang quarterback Justin Willis, as Tulane defeated Conference USA foe SMU, 41-34 in overtime, at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. Forté ran for four touchdowns on 38 carries, including a career-long 77-yard touchdown jaunt in the second quarter and a nine-yard scoring run to cap the Green Wave’s opening possession of the overtime period. With SMU still having a chance with first-and-10 at the Tulane 25 yard line, Scott beat his block, forced a fumble that was recovered by Avery Williams to spark the Tulane celebration. With the win, Tulane snapped a three-game losing streak on the season, a seven-game road losing streak dating back to last season and an eight-game C-USA road losing streak dating back to 2005. Ironically enough, the Green Wave’s last road league win came against the Mustangs with a 31-10 victory back on Sept. 24, 2005. SMU drew first blood as Willis connected with Emmanuel Sanders for a 26-yard scoring strike with 4:43 left to play in the first quarter, and the Mus-tangs made it a 10-0 ballgame on a 30-yard field goal by Thomas Morstead 12 second into the second quarter. From there, the Tulane offense got on track and Anthony Scelfo hooked up with fellow Jeremy Williams from 22 yards out to cut the deficit to three. SMU capped a 70-yard drive on the ensuing possession with a 17-yard strike from Willis to Sanders less than a minute and a half later, but Tulane responded with a 77-yard touchdown jaunt by Forté and a 32-yard field goal off the toe of Ross Thevenot to make it a tie ballgame going into the locker room at halftime. Thevenot opened the scoring in the second half with a career-long 47-yard field goal and Forté capped a 92-yard drive one possession later with his second touchdown of the day to give the Green Wave a 27-17 advan-tage. SMU, however, would not go away as Mustang running back DeMyron Martin scored from one yard out and Morstead nailed a 37-yard field goal to tie the score with 7:35 left to play in regulation.

The Green Wave reclaimed the lead with a 76-yard drive which included a 65 yard Forté run through traffic and a five-yard rumble by the record-setter to give Tulane a 34-27 lead. Following a punt by rookie Darren deRo-chemont, which pinned SMU at their own 19-yard line, Willis led the Mustangs mythodi-cally down the field and capped the 81-yard drive with a seven-yard touchdown pass to Zack Sledge with eight seconds on the clock to set up the dramatics in overtime.

NEW ORLANS, La.-Matt Forté posted his fourth consecutive 200-plus yard rushing game, and the Wave defense held the Tigers to 58 yards rushing, but it was not enough as Tulane dropped a Homecoming heart-breaker to Conference USA foe Memphis, 28-27, at the Louisiana Superdome. Forté rambled for 278 yard and two scores on a school-record 44 car-ries, but Memphis’ Martin Hankins connected with Duke Calhoun for a five-yard touchdown pass with 36 seconds to play. The Green Wave appeared to be in good shape as Forté’s one-yard touchdown plunge less than two minutes into the fourth quarter gave Tu-lane a 27-21 lead , and Josh Lumar intercepted a Hankins pass on the ensuing possession to set up another potential scoring drive. Tulane drove from its own 27 all the way to the Memphis five yard line, but on fourth-and-goal, Ross Thevenot’s 22-yard field goal attempt sailed wide right. With new life, Memphis drove 80 yards on nine plays and Hankins’ pass to Calhoun tied the game at 27-all and Matt Reagan’s PAT proved to be the difference in the ballgame. Tulane still had a chance as the Tigers’ squib kick was fielded by Troy Wilson and returned to the Green Wave 38 yard line. A nine-yard comple-tion from Anthony Scelfo to Forté stopped the clock and the Wave picked up the first down when Scelfo connected with Gabe Ratcliff for four yards at the Memphis 49. Initially, the side judge ruled that Ratcliff had gotten out of bounds, but after moving the chains, the clock started again. Scelfo and Toledo argued the starting of the clock, but to no avail, and time expired following a five-yard Scelfo run. Thevenot put Tulane on the board with a career-long 48-yard field goal with 3:03 left to play in the opening quarter, but the Tigers answered with a 13-play, 71-yard drive that was capped by a three-yard touchdown run by Earnest Williams to make it a 7-3 ballgame. A 37-yard Thevenot field goal with 7:41 on the clock in the second quarter, and Forté gave the Wave a 13-7 advantage with a 51-yard touchdown jaunt just over two minutes later. A Scelfo interception late in the first half gave the Tigers the ball back, and three plays later, Hankins hooked up with Williams for a 47-yard touchdown

strike to give Memphis a 14-13 advantage at the break. Tulane took a 20-14 lead in its first pos-session of the second half when Scelfo con-nected with Jeremy Williams on a play-ac-tion pass for a 32-yard touchdown strike, but Memphis reserve sig-nal caller Matt Malouf tossed a five-yard TD pass to Carlton Single-ton 2:43 later to set up the fourth-quarter fire-works.

NEW ORLEANS, La.-Golden Hurricane quarterback Paul Smith completed 18-of-27 passes for 319 yards and three scores as Tulanedropped a 49-25 decision to Conference USA foe Tulsa at the Louisiana Superdome. Chinonso Echebelem and Avery Williams posted career high tackle numbers with 13 and 11, respectively, but it was not enough to overcome a Tulsa attack that rolled up 600 yards of total offense on the day. Matt Forté saw his string of 200-plus yard rushing efforts halted at four, but still ran for 103 yards on 26 carries. Brian King posted a career-high 91 receiving yards and a touchdown on four receptions, and Jeremy Williams tied his career high with six catches for an additional 76 yards through the air. Three of Avery Williams’ tackles were for loss, and Echebelem finished the day with a forced fumble and an interception. Evan Lee and Joe Goos-by finished with 10 and seven tackles, respectively, and David Skehan posted a pair of fumble recoveries to go along with five tackles and a pass break-up. While Smith posted his C-USA record ninth consecutive 300-yard pass-ing game, Jamad Williams posted a career high with 153 yards on 31 carries. The Golden Hurricane ran for 281 yards on the day, including a career-high 72 by A.J. Whitmore. Tulsa jumped out to an early 14-0 lead as Smith scored on a four-yard run with 2:49 left in the first quarter and connected with Marion for a 52-yard score less than three minutes into the second. Tulane cut the lead in half when King hauled in a 44-yard touchdown strike from sophomore quarterback Anthony Scelfo, but the Golden Hurricane answered with a 92-yard kickoff return by Roy Roberts to make it a 21-7 ballgame. Ross Thevenot nailed a 34-yard field goal as time expired in the first half, and an on-side kick to start the second gave the Green Wave new life as Travis Burks recovered Thevenot’s boot at the Tulane 44 yard line. The Green Wave made the trick play work but driving 56 yards down the field and capping the nine-play drive with a two-yard Scelfo run. Forté took the direct snap for a 2-point conversion to make the score 21-18, but Tulsa scored on its next two possessions to put the game out of reach. Smith ran in his second touchdown of the day with 6:27 left to play in

the third, and connect-ed with Kyle Grooms on the first play of the fourth quarter to push the lead to 35-18. Fol-lowing a pair of Tulsa punts, the Golden Hur-ricane hung its final skins with a 37-yard pass from Smith to Johnson with 3:58 left to play, and Whitmore took a direct snap 56 yards for a score on the Golden Hurricane’s next possession. Tulane closed out the scoring when Scott Elliott connected with Kenneth Guidroz from seven yards out with 11 second left to play.

NEW ORLEANS, La.-Matt Forté ran for 171 yards and two touchdowns and Jeremy Williams had eight catches for 188 yards and two scores as Tulane celebrated “Senior Day 2007” by defeating Conference USA foe UTEP, 34-19, Saturday evening at the Louisiana Superdome. Williams’ receiving yardage was a career high and ranked ninth-highest in Green Wave single-season history. The Wave wasted little time jumping on the Miners, taking the opening kickoff 80 yards down the field and capping the nine-play drive with a 43-yard scoring strike from Anthony Scelfo to Williams less than four minutes into the ballgame. The defense allowed UTEP to make a long drive on its first possession, but Jose Martinez missed a 35-yard field goal. Following a punt by each team, Tulane capped the first-quarter scoring with a 36-yard field goal by Ross Thevenot to make it a 10-0 ballgame. Tulane pushed the lead to 17 when Kevin Moore connected with Wil-liams for a 23-yard touchdown pass, but the Miners came right back with a three-play, 74-yard drive on the ensuing possession as Marcus Thomas scored on a 59-yard jaunt down the right side of the field to make it 17-7. UTEP cut the lead to seven with a 42-yard Martinez kick with 6:20 re-maining in the first half, and Tulane went into the locker room at half time ahead by a touchdown. The Miners opened the second half with a 39-yard drive and appeared ready to cut the lead to four as Martinez lined up for a 30-yard field goal. UTEP head coach Mike Price, however, called for a fake, but Carlis Jack-son sacked reserve quarterback Kyle Wright for a 14-yard loss to thwart the Miners’ scoring opportunity. After dodging a bullet, André Anderson turned a fourth-down punting situation into a turning point in the ballgame with a 43 yard rush on a direct snap to the upback. The fake punt kept the Green Wave drive alive, and Forté capped the 11-play, 70-yard effort with a one-yard touchdown plunge up the middle to stake the Green Wave to a 24-10 lead. UTEP answered with a 21-yard Martinez field goal on the ensuing pos-session, but Tulane came right back with a five-play, 74-yard drive capped by a four-yard Forté run to make it a 31-13 ballgame. UTEP cut the lead

to 12 when Trevor Vit-tatoe connected with Jeff Moturi for a 12-yard touchdown with 9:16 left to play, but Tulane answered with a 20-yard field goal by Thevenot to account for the final score. The Miners had a chance to make things interesting down the stretch, but David Ske-han ended one UTEP drive with an intercep-tion - his fourth of the year - and the Tulane defense held on fourth-and-six one posses-sion later to send the Green Wave seniors out in style.

HOUSTON, Texas-Matt Forté ran for 194 yards and tied his own school and league record with five touchdowns as Tulane defeated Conference USA foe Rice, 45-31, at Rice Stadium. Along the way, Forté - who also posted 51 receiving yards on a catch and a pitch on a hook-and-lateral - became just the 11th player in NCAA Division I-Bowl Subdivision history to surpass the 2,000-yard rushing bar-rier and currently has 2,007 yards and 22 touchdowns on 336 carries in 2007. In addition to topping the 2,000-yard mark, Forté set a couple of C-USA records on the day as well. He surpassed the former league single-season rushing record of 1,964 set by Memphis’ DeAngelo Williams in 2005 and his 22 touchdowns ties Williams mark set in 2004. Forté’s five touchdowns ties the Tulane single-game record he set on Sept. 22 against Southeastern Louisiana and ties the C-USA mark shared by five other league backs. He had 96 yards and two touchdowns by half-time, and did more of the same in the second half with 98 yards and three scores in the game’s final 30 minutes. Forté accounted for the bulk of Tulane’s 267 yards rushing against the Owls, but Anthony Scelfo had his fair share with 55 yards on two carries while Ade Tuyo ran for 24 yards and a touchdown on eight totes. The Green Wave drew first blood as Ross Thevenot was true on a 38-yard field goal on the game’s opening drive, but Rice took a 7-3 lead early in the second quarter when Chase Clement connected with Jarett Dillard for a 13-yard touchdown pass. The rest of the day, however, belonged to Forté and the Wave. Forté scored on a 46-yard run with 3:44 left to play before halftime, touched paydirt a little over three minutes later with a one-yard jaunt, and scored on a five-yard run less than five minutes into the third quarter to stake Tulane to a 24-7 lead. Rice made it a 10-point ballgame on Clement’s second scoring strike to Dillard with 7:38 to play in the third quarter, but Forté answered with a one-yard plunge early in the fourth quarter to push the lead back to 17. Owls kicker Clark Fangmeier drilled a 30-yard field goal a little over three minutes later to make it a 31-17 ballgame, but Forté all but put the game

out of reach on the en-suing possession when he scored on a 13-yard run with 7:24 remaining on the clock. Rice’s James Casey sandwiched 61- and six-yard touchdown re-ceptions around Tuyo’s touchdown - the first of the Tulane senior’s ca-reer - to account for the final score.

Greenville, N.C.-Senior running back Matt Forté posted 155 all-purpose yard with 120 yards on rushing and 25 receiving, and junior free safety David Skehan posted a season-best nine tackles, but it was not enough as the Tulane University football team dropped the season finale to East Carolina, 35-12, Saturday afternoon at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. The Pirates tallied 441 yards of total offense (219 rushing, 240 receiv-ing), including Chris Johnson’s 155 yards and two touchdowns on the ground to go along with four catches for 85 yards and a score through the air. With the loss, Tulane concludes the year at 4-8 overall and 3-5 in C-USA play. East Carolina, meanwhile, improves to 7-5 on the year and 6-2 in league action. With 120 yards on the ground, Forté completed the season with 2,127 yards, which ranks sixth in NCAA Division I-Bowl Subdivision history. For his career, Forté - who shared time in the backfield his first two collegiate seasons and missed three games last year with a knee injury - finished with 4,265 yards to sit just 99 yards behind Mewelde Moore’s Tulane re-cord of 4,364 yards from 2000-03. The Green Wave opened the scoring with a 40-yard field goal off the toe of sophomore kicker Ross Thevenot with 8:12 left to play in the first quarter, but the Pirates came right back with a seven-play, 71-yard drive capped by a 6-yard pass from Kass to Dominique Lindsay less than four minutes later to make it a 7-3 ballgame. Tulane made it a one-point affair on a 35-yard Thevenot kick with 1:20 left to play in the opening stanza, but the East Carolina got a five-yard touchdown run by Johnson just over two minutes into the second quarter and closed out the frame with a 25-yard Rob Kass-to-Jamar Bryant scor-ing strike with 43 seconds left to stake the Pirates to a 15-point lead. The score remained 21-6 throughout the third quarter, but Johnson opened the fourth quarter with a seven-yard touchdown run and the Pi-rates never looked back. Tulane cut the lead to 16 on a three-yard touch-down run by Forté, but Anthony Scelfo’s two-point pass attempt was bat-ted at the line of scrimmage. Following an unsuccessful on-side kick attempt, East Carolina wasted little time putting Tulane away as Kass hit Johnson for a 33-yard touch-

down strike to account for the final score.
