HAPPY 98TH ANNIVERSARY TO LODGE #371 The Lodge will be celebrating its 98th Anniversary on October 11, 2008. The first “home” of the Frederick Moose was actually a tent at the Frederick Fair and it was during that week that 57 men signed as charter members. Currently, we now have over 1,100 LOOM Members and over 600 WOTM Co-Workers. Come in Saturday, October 11, 2008 to celebrate the Lodge’s anniversary with dinner and enjoy dancing to the tunes of Brushfire. Hope to see you at the Lodge.

Senior Regent’s Message ATTENTION ALL CO-WORKERS. THE SUPREME GOVERNOR JAMES GALLEGHER WILL BE VISITING OUR LODGE OCTOBER 19. WE HAVE BEEN ASKED TO HELP SERVE AT THIS FUNCTION. PLEASE SEE ANY LODGE OR CHAPTER OFFICER IF YOU CAN BE OF ASSISTANCE. Welcome all new Co-Workers and/or new Chairmen - we really appreci-ate your help. We have a joint project with the Lodge for a very special Military Police Platoon in Iraq. Donations/supplies will be accepted from October 1 - No-vember 15 so that they can receive our box by Christmas. Please use travel size items. Thank you. The Chapter earned the 2007-08 reward of Achievement. Congrats to our current Jr. Grad. Elizabeth “Becky” Welch on earning her green cap. If she meets all her qualifications in 2008-09, she will receive her College of Re-gents status and her cap & gown in Tennessee in 2010. Congrats to Connie Van Ravensburg also for being nominated from Moose-heart for top WOTM Sponsor for 2007-08. Our sympathies and prayers go out to Betty Lou Burkett, Clair Wamsley, Herb Smith of Frostburg Family Center, and friends & family of Dick Gosnell.

Western MD Moose Legion 218 Moose Legion and District meet-ings, and the State meetings with their locations and dates are as follows:

The District Meetings will be Sunday, October 5, 2008 at Brunswick #1582, Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Frostburg #348 and Sunday, December 2, 2008 at Frederick #371.

The State Meetings will be Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Williamsport #2462 and Sunday, November 23, 2008 at Annapolis #296. There will be no State meeting in December.

Membership

All members are welcomed and encouraged to attend the LOOM Lodge meetings held the first and third Monday of each month at 7:00 pm. Just a reminder: At the bar, the Lodge is selling chances on Lifetime Memberships for the Lodge and Chapter. Only 100 tickets will be sold. See bartender or an officer for details. Drawing will be held after all tickets have been sold. The Lodge is selling chances for LOOM dues to be paid for one year. The chances are $0.50 each. When the board is filled up, a number will be pulled and maybe you will be the winner. See the bartender or an Officer for further details. On August 18, 2008, we had a special meeting regarding raising the LOOM dues from $40.00 to $60.00 per year. This motion was passed and is in effect as of December 1, 2008. Safe Surfin’ USA Foundation and Moose International History of the Safe Surfin’ Foundation The Safe Surfin’ Foundation is the education ‘arm’ of the nationally recognized United States Department of Justice, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, also

known as Operation Blue Ridge Thunder. This program is administered by the Beford County Sheriff’s Office, Bedford County, Virginia. Under the direction of Sheriff Mike Brown, online sexual predators that prey upon our innocent children are con-tinually identified and arrested. Though law enforcement is extremely effective in arresting these predators, Sheriff Brown realized more needed to be accomplished to protect children while online. Law enforcement continues to work tirelessly arresting preda-tors, but the need to education potential victims became very apparent. Education is our best defense! Budgeting restrictions slowed the development and distribution of these necessary educational materials. How can we possibly supply schools, parents and communities with this vital information when budgets are already down to bare bones? The Safe Surfin’ Foundation is born! Incorporated in 2000, SSF received non-profit status and all donations to SSF are tax deductible. Made up completely of volunteers, funds are raised from corporate and private donations, ena-bling SSF to supply Internet safety educational materials to schools, libraries, home schools, etc. SSF Educational Programs are AT NO COST to the recipient!

"GIMME FIVE" -- What Is It? Nothing More, or Less, Than A Simple Plan to

Help Ensure The Future of Mooseheart and Moosehaven

Five cents -- set aside from the change you pour into your pocket or purse in the morning. Five more cents -- set aside from the change you empty from your pocket or purse in the evening. Just that: a nickel in the morning, a nickel in the evening, set aside and sent to Moose Charities, for the kids of Mooseheart and the seniors of Moosehaven.

That's the new "GIMME FIVE" program -- it's really nothing more than that. But it's also nothing less than this:

If anything close to the entire membership of the Loyal Order of Moose and Women of the Moose were to do just that much . . . every day . . . for five years . . . it could ensure the financial future of Mooseheart Child City & School in Illinois, and of our Moosehaven re-tirement community in Florida -- without having to keep coming to Moose members every year to ask for more. How can this be? Remember the wisdom of our Enrollment Ritual: "A burden heavy to one is borne lightly by many." Then, do the math: We honestly believe that very, very few of our nearly 1.3 million Moose men and women would find it a hardship to set aside a nickel in the morning, and a nickel at night, for Mooseheart and Moosehaven. Flag Burning Ceremony and Court of Honor: A formal Flag Burning Ceremony & Court of Honor took place in conjunction with the Frederick VFW located on Patrick Street. What a huge success. We honorably retired over 182 flags. Thanks to Rodney from the Board representing the Moose Lodge. Gettysburg, PA: The troop traveled by bus to the new Civil War Visitors Center, Eisenhower Farm and was delighted that during the weekend the World War II soldiers had a 5 acre reenactment as well as Camping at Granite Hill Camp Resort. Philmont Scout Ranch, 2009: The Moose Troop has been awarded a 9 man crew to travel to Cimarron, NM for a high adventure event 6/17 to 6/29/09. Great news for the troop Hiking, Camping, Outside skills are a must for this great experience. Seabase, 2009: The Moose Troop has been awarded 2 crews of 13 men to travel to the Florida Keys for a high adventure snorkeling, scuba, fishing, boating, sailing, and of course Munson Island. What a life changing ex-perience in store for these 13 scouts. This is our 2nd experience for the troop…..
