The 2007-08 edition of Maryland men’s swimming and diving broke eight school records last season,butfirst-yearheadcoachSean Schimmelhashissightsforthisyear’ssquadsetevenhigher.

“We are going to get some swimmers to the NCAAs,” Schimmel said. “We return a lot of great swimmersandhaveaddedsomegreatonesaswell.Asateam,Iwouldliketoseeusfinishinthetop six at the ACC Championships and move up from there.”

The Terps had three swimmers at the Olympic Trials this summer, including returnees Dong Kim and Eric Cullen as well as incoming freshman Sean Stewart.

“We have some guys that have competed at a very high level,” Schimmel said. “I think the seniors we have really want to make an impact going out and get the program back into the right direction.”

freesTyleKim returns after putting up NCAA B-cut times in the 50 and 100 freestyle last season. Kim

swam both events in the Olympic Trials this summer and took fourth at the ACC Championships in the 100 free. Kim swam a school-record 44.09 in the 100 free. In addition to Kim, the Terps return Alexander Damjanic, Chris Rouchard and Kirk Jackson after solid campaigns last season. Rouchard, who specializes in distance events, swam team-bests in the 500, 1000 and 1650 free. Look for incoming freshman Butts, who swam in the Trials this summer, to make a splash immediately for the Terps.
