Community Development
Member of the Waste Management Committee, Covenant University – An observation made regarding
the waste disposal system on campus and possible suggestions, during the first week of resumption led
to the setting up of the Waste Management Committee, Chaired by Prof. Ako. The committee has been
successful in identifying the key issues the University faces environmentally. I have been instrumental in
the drawing up of the action and strategic plans for the committee. The committee has just walked into
the implementation of the pilot plan phase.
Member of the Covenant University Community Development Committee, Covenant University – The
committee has worked on the various strategies to contribute to the immediate community, through
mobilizing our students to clean the campus and other environs like the market are and the general
Hospital, water provision etc.
Attendance of KMA Conference was motivated due to its theme - to Reposition Africa on the Global
Economy- the presented paper provided key contributions as to how to move the various African nations
forward use Biotechnology as a driving force.
My Research focus, is centred around indigenous knowledge identification, validation and propagation.

I have served and I’m currently servicing in various Departmental and University committees,
contributing actively to meet the designated terms of Reference. I have served as secretary to the last
two biotechnology related events within the department and the International Workshop on Pattern
Discovery in Biology 2009. Prior to my return to India for my PhD Bench work I served as the secretary to
the Central Examinations committee and was an active member of the Waste Management Committee.
I have published papers and posters in fields of Modern Biology and Biotechnology and have showcased
the university as a hub for biotechnology during my presentation at the Knowledge Management Africa
Conference 2009. I have been active in various Research forums within and outside the University and
have always looked out for means to enhance our research base at the university.
Always having a keen eye for detail, I have put forth a few recommendations which have been accepted
and implemented e.g. the purchase of podium microphones for Public Lectures and the establishment of
the waste management committee, which emanated from a suggestion for a new waste disposal
system.
The University being my base and point I have ensured that I actively implement her motto of “raising a
new generation of leaders” by imparting knowledge to my students and counselling them beyond
academics.
The spiritual pillar serves as a backbone to the University and staff and I am no exception; I have greatly
benefited from such an atmosphere and have grown in my spiritual life since resumption.
I find myself in line with the core values of the university “Spirituality, Possibility Mentality, Capacity
building, Integrity, Responsibility, Diligence and Sacrifice”. These are evident when analysing my stay at
Covenant University.
Career Plan and Progression/Expectations
My immediate career goal is enhance my teaching/knowledge impartation skills by acquisition of a PhD.
degree in my field and training/interaction with experienced Professors. This session, on completion of
my PhD work, I intend :
To continue further research on medicinal plants and to report important research findings by
publishing at least three journal articles this year.
To articulate and carry out more research work on Indigenous methods of practicing
Biotechnology.
To co-create more learning friendly environments for student growth
Mid-Term Career Goals
To develop and patent easy to use low-cost diagnostic test kits for malaria using molecular
tools.
To strengthen/establish linkage/collaboration with current connections and to other leading
research institutes/laboratories
To report important research findings in at least five journal articles yearly
To co-create more learning friendly environments for student growth
Long-Term Career Goals
To become a world class renowned Professor of Indigenous Biotechnology having made world-
significant contributions and to mentor upcoming scholars.
