Superintendent’s Report Mr. Rodney R. Wakeham, Superintendent of Schools, reported the following: 1. From Coach Dan Taylor - The Trenton High School Mock Trial team traveled to Ann Arbor on Saturday, February 22 to compete in the Washtenaw Country Regionals for the Michigan High School Mock Trial Tournament. Juniors Laura Howey, Carter Kings, Elizabeth Medel, Avary Allstead, Jennifer Miller along with sophomores Allison Gilstorf and Dianna Ecie competed for THS. The team turned in outstanding performances against two Bedford High School teams during the first and second rounds. They fell just short of qualifying as a State Finalist for the fourth straight year after losing a hard-fought match to Ann Arbor Community High School in the final round. Special thanks go out to Judge Michael McNally and Judge Jennifer Coleman-Hesson who volunteered many hours of their time to help coach the team for the ninth year running. Additional thanks to attorney Rachel Helton who pitched in with additional legal advice to help the team prepare. 2. Kindergarten Round Up for 2020-2021 (Class of 2033) is scheduled at both elementary buildings during the month of March. The informational meeting at Anderson Elementary School is scheduled for 6:00-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 and the Hedke Elementary School meeting is scheduled for 6:00-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2020. Our base target number for 2020-2021 is a total of 140 to 145 kindergartens and an additional 15-20 young five’s students. 3. The winter season for Trenton High School athletics is winding down. Teams are finishing up their regular seasons and some are completing their respective playoffs. a. Competitive Cheer finished 5 th in the talent rich District 8 of Division 2 with a team score of 731.58. b. Ice hockey starts with a Division 2 regional game tomorrow night at the Chelsea Coliseum against Ann Arbor Skyline. Game time is at 6:00 p.m. c. Boys’ and Girls’ Bowling will compete in Division 2 regional play at the Town and Country Lanes in Westland. Region 12 starts at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020 and continues into Saturday. d. Girls Basketball will face Gibraltar-Carlson in the opening round of Division 1 district play on Tuesday, March 4, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. at Monroe High School. e. Boys Basketball starts Division 1 district play on Tuesday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m. against Woodhaven High School. Games are being played at Bedford High School. f. Six (6) Trojan wrestlers advanced to the regionals on Saturday, February 22 nd. Two (2) wrestlers -- Sam Rickman and Brendan Matusik are advancing to the MHSAA State Individual Finals at Ford Field on Friday, March 6, 2020. g. Boys’ Swim and Dive have the Downriver League Meet this week as a final prep and chance to qualify for the MHSAA Div. 3 Swim and Dive finals being held on the campus of Oakland University March 13-14.

4. The second high school trimester band and chorus concert will be on Wednesday, February 28,

2020 starting at 7:00 p.m. in the THS Auditorium.

5. High school exams will start on Wednesday, March 4th through Friday, March 6th. Students are dismissed at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday and Friday. The first day of the third trimester will be on Monday, March 9, 2020.

GENERAL CONSENT AGENDA The Board approved the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of February 10, 2020 and Financial Reports as presented in the consent agenda. Approval of 2020 New York City Trip The Board approved the Trenton High School Marketing/Literature/Arts travel request and will permit them to travel to New York City from April 22, 2020 through April 26, 2020. Report: Community Liaison Director Activities Dr. Michael Doyle, Community Liaison Director, reviewed activities in conjunction with the district’s goals as follows: Student Achievement – Parent Connect, Student Connect, and MiStar mobile application views. Teaching and Learning Practices – Adjunct Professor at Wayne State University, represent Trenton in area learning communities, and courses taken in school community relations. School and Community Relations – Visibility at all community events, print information for Trenton Trib, TPS Talk, and school mailer in August, website, Facebook® and Twitter® activity, student mobility report, 2018 bond, communications (Healthy Trenton, Rotary, TEF, City Council), and staff recognition. Financial Responsibilities and Operations – Michigan State Police Safety Grant 2018, school security, Lobby Guard, and future grants. Also reviewed were Trenton Educational Foundation activities (Signature Event on November 13, 2020 and Tailgate on October 9, 2020). The report was received and placed on file.
