20 November 2016 Christ the King Year C

In various degrees parishioners have all been affected by the events of this week. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Kaikoura and District now rallying together in support of one another. Closer to home residents of Figaro apartments at Malvina Major have experienced their own upheaval. Figaro has been declared unsafe. They have all been transferred at least temporarily. Many of them are now at Bob Scott Village, Petone. So our thoughts are with them too and the others from Figaro housed elsewhere. The numbers will be down at this Sunday’s communion service in Malvina Major Chapel. Fr Doug and I are hoping to go out and visit them all at Bob Scott.

From the other side of the world Cardinal John writes: I want you all to know that you are very much being held in prayer at this time of great anxiety with the earthquakes. You have all been subjected to the constant earthquakes and the worry and anxiety they bring. It is very difficult being this far away and knowing what everyone is going through. Where I am at the Focolare Centre in Loppiano is not too far from where there have been recent devastating earthquakes here in Italy. It has meant that many, many people have been asking me what is happening in New Zealand and there have been prayers offered several times a day.

Naturally I feel very concerned for the people in Kaikoura and the Marlborough area and am wondering how we can help them, I have managed to be in touch with some of them. Wellington too, of course, must be a place of tension and anxiety as the aftershocks continue.

We are all the work of your hands. For though the mountains leave their place and the hills be tossed to the ground,

your love shall never leave us and your promise of peace will never be shaken.

St Benedict's Passionist Family Groups.

Guy Fawkes Night was a good opportunity for two of our family groups to

organise get togethers:

The Antiochians combined Guy Fawkes, All Saints and All Souls with a night

of "Saints, Ghosts and Stories". There were stories about saints, ancestors

and times gone by, even to the point of being semi dramatised! To complete

the evening some seasonal sparklers were lit in the garden! -

Meanwhile the Ephesians got together for a banquet and viewing the fireworks

display. -

This weekend the Galileans will be enjoying a shared barbecue. They are also

in the process of organising the annual hamper appeal for the hamper mass. -

Please check photographs on the notice board in the church foyer.

If you would like to know more about Passionist Family Groups, or if you

would like to join, please contact Fr Doug Shepherd, Katrin Eickhorst or Eustie

Kamath.
