PICK UP AND DROP OFF:
Our drop off times remain the same. We encourage anyone picking up a child from school to collect them between
3.10pm and 3.25pm at the two usual collections points.
Parents are requested to remain outside the school grounds and not congregate in groups while waiting for children.
Please observe social distancing protocols.
Learning at Home Feedback and Reflection
Please take a few minutes to respond to the questions in the survey below. The survey has been developed to
ensure LPS staff understand the view of our community. We recognise that it has been a challenging time and this
survey is one way we are seeking to understand how the Learning at Home Program experience was for you, as
parents and carers.
We are aware that many of you have children in different year levels and your experiences may be different for each
child. As a result, the survey below is designed to be completed for ONE child only, but should only take a few
minutes. At the end of the survey there is space to elaborate on any of your answers or provide extra information, if
you would like to.
If you have multiple children, we request that you complete a survey for each child. Thanks for taking the time to
complete it.

National Refugee Week
This week students at Leeton PS will be acknowledging Refugee Week, an annual activity to inform the public about refugees and celebrate positive contributions made by refugees to Australian society. Refugee Week provides a platform where positive images of refugees can be promoted in order to create a culture of welcome throughout the country. The ultimate aim of the celebration is to create better understanding between different communities and to encourage successful integration enabling refugees to live in safety and to continue making a valuable contribution to Australia.
The aims of Refugee Week are:
● to educate the Australian public about who refugees are and why they have come to Australia;
● to help people understand the many challenges refugees face coming to Australia;
● to celebrate the contribution refugees make to our community; to focus on how the community can provide a safe and welcoming environment for refugees;
● for community groups and individuals to do something positive for refugees, asylum seekers and displaced people, within Australia but also around the world; and
● for service providers to reflect on whether they are providing the best possible services to refugees.
Refugee Week is a unique opportunity for us all to experience and celebrate the rich diversity of refugee communities through theatre, music, dance, film and other events which take place all over Australia.

Semester 1 Reports
This semester, we will still be writing and sending home student reports, but due to the disrupted semester they will be a bit different than usual. Students will not receive any grades for achievement; rather there will be comments only, and due to disrupted teaching and learning programs the reports will be modified to reflect this. We are aiming to send them home in Week 10 (Wednesday) prior to the holidays, and schedule follow-up parent-teacher interviews early in Term 3 for anyone requesting one. Interviews are likely to be held remotely – more information to follow.
As always, I would like to reiterate to all parents that if you have a concern or query regarding your child's education please make an appointment to see the relevant classroom teacher or appropriate Executive Member to further discuss the matter. Parents are asked to address any emails to our school email address. These emails will then be forwarded to the appropriate teacher. It is important that concerns be initially addressed with classroom teachers as often issues can be addressed quickly.

AURORA
Changes to the opportunity class placement process for 2020 Year 4 students
The 2021 Year 5 opportunity class placement process was put on hold in April 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation. (This is the process to be followed to apply for participation in the Aurora Virtual Opportunity class for year 5 2021).
We now have a revised and simplified timeline for the OC placement process to ensure that students and families can have certainty about their placement as soon as possible.
The changes include:
A new date for online applications. Parents must apply between 9th June 2020 and 26th June 2020. Late applications cannot be accepted.
A new test date - Wednesday 16th September 2020.
To ensure fair and consistent assessment of students across New South Wales, students will be offered places based only on their test results this year – there will be no school assessment scores.
There will also be no opportunity for appeals given the tight timeframes.
For further detailed information I encourage you to visit:

NEW KITCHEN
Wow! Check out the new kitchen available at LPS for staff and students to use. It was used for the first time last week, where students were able to learn how to make and cook damper!
A big thank you to Mrs Tabain for the tireless work she put in to gaining a grant and seeing it through to completion and to the LPS P&C for their financial contribution.
The grant was for $35K through the NSW Government’s 2018 Community Building Partnerships program. The P&C and school both contributed financially to complete the project. Another big thank you to Jamie from Broadbent Builders who completed the construction work!
Who wouldn’t like to cook in here?
