The placemat is worked from side to side, in the thermal stitch. The thermal stitch will create a thick fabric. Each row worked creates a “shelf” of stitches in which you will work the next row.

• To make the placemat taller, add chains to the beginning chain, to make it wider add row repeats.

• Fasten off at color changes. Thermal Single Crochet (TSC): Insert hook in BLO of designated st AND insert hook in the open loop one row below, YO and pull through both loops; YO, pull through both loops on hook. See the picture tutorial below or you can check out my friend Carolyn’s video tutorial to help you master the TSC è HERE.

Color Changes: • Rows 1 to 6 are worked in Color 1 • Rows 7 to 10 are worked in Color 2 • Rows 11 to finished width of placemat less 1.5” worked in Color 1 • Next 4 rows worked in Color 2 • Last 6 rows worked in Color 1 Placemat: Row 1: Ch 47 (or number required to reach desired width), working in the top loop of each ch, sc in 2nd ch from hook, and each ch to end. (46 sc throughout)

Row 2: Ch1, turn, TSC in each st to end following color changes as noted above.

Repeat Row 2 until placemat measures 17.5” (or desired length, less 1.5”).
