BULLDOGSUNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH

• UMD split with St. Cloud State in WCHA action last week by scores of 4-2 and 2-3, the second split for the Bulldogs against the Huskies this season.

• The Bulldogs - without leading scorer freshman Gabbie Hughes - got four goals from four different players. The Bulldogs scored two goals in the first period (by McKenzie Hewett and Sydney Brodt) and two in the second period (by Lizi Norton and Ryleigh Houston). UMD outshot the Huskies 47-23.

• In game two, the Bulldogs simply couldn’t capitalize on a 53-29 SOG advantage, suffering a 2-3 loss, and only UMD’s third loss at home of the season. Naomi Rogge and Anneke Linser had the Bulldogs goals, and freshman goaltender Emma Soderberg had 26 saves in the first loss of her collegiate career.

• The Bulldogs outshot the Huskies 100-52 in the series and an eye-popping 191-89 in four games this season.

• Freshman Gabbie Hughes continues to leads the Bulldogs with 29 points in 26 games this season (15g, 14a), and ranks fourth in the NCAA for points per game by a rookie and first in the WCHA with a 1.12 PPG average. With a 1.12 PPG average, Hughes also ranks fifth among all WCHA scorers in points and goals (0.58).

• Four players are in the midst of scoring streaks, including sophomore Naomi Rogge, who has compiled two goals and three assists for five points over her last four games. Three players have three game streaks - Hughes with four points (2g, 2a), Maggie Flaherty with four assists, and Ryleigh Houston with three points (2g, 1a).

• The Bulldogs trail Ohio State by five points in the WCHA, with two games in hand. While UMD hosts the Badgers this weekend, the Buckeyes are idle, and don’t return to action until next weekend in Madison. OSU has just six possible points left to grab in the league play, while the Bulldogs have 12 points still up for grabs.

• Wisconsin will mark the 16th and 17th games the Bulldogs will play against a ranked opponent in their 29th and 30th games, respectively, adding to UMD's season-long strongest strength of schedule in the nation according to USCHO.com. The Bulldogs are 5-9-1 in games against ranked teams.

• UMD is 30-47-14 against the Badgers, and is winless in nine contests since beating Wisconsin 4-1 at AMSOIL back on Nov. 18, 2016. Over those nine games, UMD has registered two ties against the Badgers, however, and just a year ago (Feb. 10, 2018), the Bulldogs tied Wisconsin 3-3 at AMSOIL Arena.

BADGERSUNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN

• The No. 2/2 Badgers hit the road for the fi nal time during the regular season as they head to Duluth, Minn., to take on UMD. Puck drop on Friday and Saturday is set for 3:07 p.m. CT both days.

• Both games this weekend can be seen in the Madison area on 27-3, The Decades Channel and can be heard on 100.9 FM as Reid Magnum has the call from AMSOIL Arena.

• UW enters the weekend on a 10-game unbeaten streak against the Bulldogs as UW’s last loss to UMD was on Nov. 18, 2016 in Duluth. In their last 26 matchups, UW owns a 21-1-4 record against UMD.

• UW swept Minnesota State last weekend at LaBahn Arena, earning a 7-2 win on Saturday before collecting a 4-1 win on Sunday. Sophie Shirley scored three goals to pace the Badgers while eight different players found the score sheet.

• Wisconsin is in its 16th season under Mark Johnson, who is 485-87-42 (.821) as head coach at his alma mater. The 1980 “Miracle on Ice” hero has led UW to fi ve-straight NCAA Frozen Four appearances, the longest active streak in the country. Johnson made UW hockey history last Saturday as he became the fi rst Badger to have his jersey retired.

• Senior Annie Pankowski was named a fi nalist for the Hockey Humanitarian Award last week for her efforts volunteering with OccuPaws, an organization that helps train guide dogs in Wisconsin.

• Pankowski ranks fourth in the WCHA with 34 points this year off 16 goals and 18 assists and enjoyed a four-point game against Minnesota State on Saturday.

• Junior Abby Roque is close behind with 33 points, good for fi fth in the WCHA. She is only eight points shy of her career-high of 41 points set last year en route to winning WCHA Forward of the Year honors.

• Junior Kristen Campbell leads the NCAA with 26 wins this year while her goals-against average of 1.17 also paces the nation. The Brandon, Manitoba, native is tied for the NCAA lead in shutouts with six this year.

• Freshman Sophie Shirley and Britta Curl each rank in the top-10 in the country in scoring among rookies. Shirley, the reigning WCHA Rookie of the Week, leads all WCHA rookies with 17 goals while her 31 points is tied for the league lead while Curl, the reigning WCHA Forward of the Week, has 25 points thanks to 16 goals and nine assists.

• Wisconsin’s defense has been stellar this year as UW leads the country in scoring defense, holding opponents to an average of 1.20 goals per game. UW has also limited its opponents to an average of 16.20 shots on net per game, which also paces the NCAA.
