2 Samuel 7 1 And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the LORD had given him rest round about from all his enemies;

Matthew 11 (Jesus said) 28 Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Too often we are blaming the Lord for our

overloaded lives, when we have kept piling on what

He did not require.

Accept help, even when it’s not up to your standards.

Matthew 11:29 Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.

Most of us would think of Martha as the better person,

but Jesus said that Mary had chosen the better part.

1 John 5 2-3 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep His Commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His Commandments: and His Command-ments are not grievous.

When we do all that God has for us to do,But only what God has for us to do,

We will find rest for our souls.

2 That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the Ark of God dwelleth within curtains (a tent). 3 And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for the LORD is with thee.

We will see that Nathan was not speaking here as a prophet, because he spoke not God’s Will.

King David wanted to do a good thing, and a good man gave his approval.

Yet it was not God’s Plan.

4 And it came to pass that night, that the Word of the LORD came unto Nathan, saying, 5 Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build Me an house for Me to dwell in?

David was wanting to take on a task that God had not told him to do and did not want.

6 Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle. 7 In all the places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel spake I a Word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why build ye not me an house of cedar?

God said, “Did I ever ask anyone to build me a house of cedar?”

God is saying, “If I had wanted a house, I would have

told you to build it.”

A good idea is not a good idea,

unless it comes from God.We sometimes find ourselves overwhelmed

because we overload our own wagons.

8 Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel: 9 And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.

God said, “I have raised you up to be king of My people; I have cut off your enemies.”

“I have established your name as a great man in the earth.”

10 Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime, 11 And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that He will make thee an house.

History teaches us clearly that this has not been fulfilled yet -- 3000 years later.

Israel was scattered because of their sin.

12

Israel was enslaved time and again after the reigns of David and Solomon.

Page 13: 2 samuel 7a A good idea

13

Israel’s enemies have risen up and afflicted them almost continuously since the time after David’s

son Solomon ruled the nation.

Enemies of Israel are in brown.

12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish His Kingdom. 13 He shall build an house for My Name, and I will stablish the throne of His Kingdom forever.

This is speaking naturally of Solomon, who would build the temple of God.

And it is speaking spiritually of Jesus Christ, Who would come to earth, born of the lineage of David,

And will rule not only Israel, but the whole world.

14 I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: 15 But My Mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.

Solomon does sin, and he is chastened, and he does repent in the Mercy of God.

Read the Book of Ecclesiastes.

16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established forever before thee: thy throne shall be established forever.

The Bible teaches us that other kings sat on the throne of Israel, and lead Israel astray.

They were taken into slavery, scattered over the earth, and suffered unbelievable persecution.

But God’s Promises are not void!

They will be fulfilled.

17

God loved David; David was a man after God’s Own Heart.

But even such a man needed to hear from God before he took action.

18

We must be careful not to go off on our own pursuits in trying to serve our Lord.

A good idea is not a good idea,

unless it comes from God.
