2 nd Kent Classic February 11 th 2007 at Detling Financial support from Mecklenburgh Drink Solutions, Tents Direct, Smiths Catering Services and Kent Pétanque Association 72 teams contested the 2 nd Kent Classic held in the Cornwallis building at the Kent County Showground, Detling, Kent on 11 th February 2007 in a novel system of play based on direct elimination with losers being cascaded into a series of subsidiary competitions in such a way as to ensure that most teams played 5 matches. The control desk tracked 211 results and made 477 team and lane assignments with each team playing an average of 5.86 games. 22 teams shared in a total of £1400 in prizes. The event was made possible by the help of our financial supporters and the hard work of KPA members who put in a total of 192 man hours of on site effort plus the off site planning, organisation and promotion that had gone on before the day. The main event, the Gold Cup was won by the Dunkerque team beating one of England's top teams pictured below before their match back row l. to r. J-C Evrard, M Evrard, S Hautecoeur, D Gens front row l. to r. Sofiane Lachani, Matt Eversden, Nic Baxter.

An innovation this year was the use of heated marquees within the building where players could relax between matches and the use of patio heaters by the showcase arena so that spectators could enjoy the final matches in some comfort.

In addition to our visitors from Dunkerque we also welcomed a team from the Fanny Nismoise Club in Belgium.

The best performance by a Kent team was the team from East Kent of D Blakely, T Bruce, A Bruce, and M Hickman who won the second tier Gold Shield.
