Sitting in a chair that is not designed for a computer can lead to strain on your spine (back problems). Precautions: Invest in an ergonomically designed office chair that has back support and is adjustable. Have a thirty-minute break before it goes back into the fixed position, to prevent stiffness. Risk Rating (0= no risk 5= high risk): 4 Most likely at risk: All members during planning and research, however the editor is most at risk during the editing process. Potential hazard: If your screen is tilted in an incorrect position, it can cause neck and shoulder pain because your muscles are being strained. Also, having a desk that is too high can cause neck and shoulder pain because your arms are not able to rest in a comfortable position. These risks are a consequence from poorly arranged equipment. Precautions: Use a smaller desk, a chair that will support your back, make sure the computer screen is eye level. Risk Rating (0= no risk 5= high risk): 3 Most likely at risk: All members during planning and research, however the editor is most at risk during the editing process.

Production Title: Suits

Task: To create a five minute short film

Location: Elliott Fernando- Day’s house and surrounding area

Personnel:

Director Elliott Fernando-Day D.O.P Vanessa Florant Editor Elliott Fernando-Day

This document prepares our team to be vigilant and aware of potential risks and hazardsthat may be apparent from pre-production to post-production, as we aim to ensure thatthere are no mishaps during the process of making our five minute opening sequence.

Measures to protect health and physical safety

Potential hazard: Your posturecan be affected by not using theappropriate chair at thecomputer as it can causedamage to your spine if you arenot sitting correctly in an uprightposition. Sitting in a chair that isnot designed for a computer canlead to strain on your spine

(back problems).

Precautions: Invest in anergonomically designed officechair that has back supportand is adjustable. Have athirty-minute break before itgoes back into the fixedposition, to prevent stiffness.

Risk Rating (0= no risk 5= highrisk): 4

Most likely at risk:All members during planningand research, however theeditor is most at risk duringthe editing process.

Potential hazard: If your screenis tilted in an incorrect position,it can cause neck and shoulderpain because your muscles arebeing strained. Also, having adesk that is too high can cause

neck and shoulder pain becauseyour arms are not able to rest ina comfortable position. Theserisks are a consequence frompoorly arranged equipment.

Precautions: Use a smallerdesk, a chair that will supportyour back, make sure thecomputer screen is eye level.

Risk Rating (0= no risk 5= highrisk): 3

Most likely at risk:All members during planningand research, however theeditor is most at risk duringthe editing process.

Potential hazard:As we spend excessive timeon the computer, it is likelythat we do not blink asoften as usual, which

causes our eyes to lack inmoisture. Also, thecomputer monitors emitelectromagnetic radiation, which affects our eyes if wedo not take the correctprecautions. Stress on theeyes can cause headaches, migraines, visual delays,

Precautions: Take regularbreaks from the computer. E.g.Two hours on the computer, then a break for at least half anhour. Also, you can invest in a

low radiation monitor; it iseasier on the eyes. Lastly, makesure the lighting in the roomisn’t too low or too bright.

Risk Rating (0= no risk 5= highrisk): 5

Most likely at risk:All members during planningand research, however theeditor is most at risk duringthe editing process.

Potential hazard: By usingthe keyboard frequently, ourhands can begin to ache or atworse cases, become numbor stiff. According toresearch, frequent typing cancause carpal tunnel

(condition characterized bypain and tingling sensationsin the hand due to recurrentcompression of a nerve inthe carpal tunnel, located inthe wrist).

Precautions: Wear splintswhile you work to stop yourwrists from bending too highor low, or use a keyboard traywhich places your hand in acomfortable position. If youdo not have a keyboard tray, adjusting your chair so thatthe keyboard and mouse arebelow your elbows and arelevel to your wrists will avoidthe problem.

Risk Rating (0= no risk 5= highrisk): 3

Most likely at risk:All members during planningand research, however theeditor is most at risk duringthe editing process.

Potential hazard: Tripping/falling over by carrying filmequipment to and fromschool and our filminglocations, or dropping filmequipment. This is morelikely to happen if the personis in a rush or the weatherconditions are unpleasant.

Precautions: Before lifting theobject, bend your legs as youbegin to approach the object, this prevents back and neckstrain as it disperses theweight more evenly. Also, heavy objects shouldn’t belifted by one person toprevent the likelihood of anaccident.

Risk Rating (0= no risk 5= highrisk): 3

Most likely at risk:All members as we all have tohelp transporting equipment.
