    THE LEVEL OF THE COURSE WILL BE DECIDED AFTER HAVING RECEIVED ALL THE REQUESTS (see this guide, part 2, paragraphs 2.7.1 and 2.7.2)

    In your e-mail you must specify: your telephone number, the language level you want to attend and if you have already attended Italian L2 courses at the Cla.

    - The students admitted to the courses will receive a confirmation e-mail or will be contacted in order to complete the enrolment.

    The participant must specify his/her first name and surname and under the heading: reason for payment, he/she should write the type of course, the language, the level and, where requested, the specific course (For example: Corso di preparazione al CILS livello B1)

    The fee cannot be reimbursed for any reason. If a person is unable to attend the lessons he/she may be offered free enrolment in a subsequent course.

    How to complete enrolment

    Participants must go to the CLA administration office with the following: 1. THE BANK RECEIPT OF PAYMENT 2. PERSONAL DETAILS (a form available at the CLA Administrative Office) 3. VALID IDENTITY DOCUMENT: IDENTITY CARD OR PASSPORT: for students from the U.E and then

    Norway, Island and Liechtenstein; PASSPORT (with Embassy Visa): for other students. A tourist visa will

    be accepted for enrolment (only valid for visits that are longer than 90 days).

    2.6 The organization Our Centre is organized by:

    - the Management Board; - the Programming Committee.

    2.6.1 The Management Board

    The Management Board consists of : a. a member nominated by the Board of each Faculty; b. a member appointed by the Academic Governing Board; c. the Director; d. the Deputy Director. The senior administrative assistant should also attend the meetings of the Management Board. She should be consulted regarding decisions to be taken and she should write the minutes of the meetings (see art. 6 of Rules and Regulations).

    2.6.2 Programming Committee The Programming Committee is constituted by:

    a. the Director; b. an elected university representative for each language taught at the Centre; this

    should not be the same person as the Faculty representative on the Management Board and should be a professor with tenure from the following disciplines:

    - for French: L-LIN/03, L-LIN/04 - for English: L-LIN/10, L-LIN/11, L-LIN/12 - for Spanish: L-LIN/05, L-LIN/06, L-LIN/07 - for Russian: L-LIN/21 - for German: L-LIN/13, L-LIN/14 - for Italian L2: L-FIL-LETT/10, L-FIL-LETT/12 c. a teaching co-ordinator, who should be a Language professor nominated by the

    Director. The following members will also take part in the Programming Committee meetings and may put forward proposals and should be consulted regarding decisions: d. two elected representatives of the teachers in charge of the Language courses

    (C.E.L. and Lettori). They should be nominated in turn in order to ensure that each of the Languages taught at the Centre are represented;

    e. an elected member of the technical staff who is responsible for the use of the systems;

    f. two student representatives, elected by the Students Council. The senior administrative assistant should also take part in the meetings. She should be consulted regarding decisions and she should write the minutes of the meetings (see art. 8 of the Rules and Regulations).

    2.7 Rules and Regulations

    The Language Centre has its own Rules and Regulations. You can find them on the CLA web site http://fermi.univr.it/cla/, by clicking on Il CLA si presenta and then on Regolamento:

    2.7.1 People entitled to use the Language Centre facilities internal and outside users

    The following people are entitled to use the Language Centre facilities:

    1. ERASMUS STUDENTS AND OTHER INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE STUDENTS;

    2. VERONA UNIVERSITY STUDENTS Degree students, Laurea Magistrale students, Postgraduate students ;

    3. SCHOLARSHIP STUDENTS, DOCTORATE STUDENTS, CONTRACT WORKERS and PEOPLE ENROLLED IN SPECIALIZATION COURSES, MASTERS DEGREE COURSES and SINGLE CYCLE COURSES;

    4. UNIVERSITY STUDENTS WHO LIVE IN THE VERONA AREA AND ARE ENROLLED AT OTHER UNIVERSITIES, AS LONG AS THE UNIVERSITY IN QUESTION HAS A SIGNED AGREEMENT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF VERONA;

    5. TEACHING AND RESEARCH STAFF, TECHNICIANS AND ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF;

    6. OUTSIDE USERS. (see art. 3 Language Centre Rules and Regulations)

    The courses are also open to the outside users (see point 6), but they must pay to attend the lessons see this guide, part 2, par. 2.7.2.

    2.7.2 Charges

    UNIVERSITY OF VERONA LANGUAGE CENTRE STANDARD YEARLY TEACHING PROGRAMMES AND TARGETED PROJECTS

    Participation in the CLA standard teaching programmes (including the use of materials and technological aids for self-learning), which are approved by the Management Board by July of every year, is exclusively and free for the users mentioned in paragraph 2.7.1 above (see points: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5). Specific projects

    financed by the University are also free for the above-mentioned users (see points: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5).

    COURSES ON DEMAND

    Students are required to enrol before the course starts. If the minimum required number of enrolments is reached, the course will start. Students can enrol on-line during the periods published on the CLA website. Each course has a closed number of places and priority will be given in order of ENROLMENT and on the condition of passing an entry test if required. In some cases the Centre will decide to offer a second course.

    ITALIAN L2 (FOR FOREIGNERS) COURSES

    Only one course is free for internal users, while they must pay for the enrolment for other courses. Outside users who enrol in Italian courses for foreigners can only attend one group/course. They are free to use our language and self-learning labs and any of the resources that our Centre provides (for the duration of the course).

    Note: - One hour of the courses mentioned above lasts 45 minutes, the duration can

    change in accordance with other decisions; - At the end of each course our centre will provide certificates of attendance and

    linguistic competence on request. Students must attend at least 70 per cent of the lessons in order to receive the attendance certificate. The linguistic competence certificate will be given if students pass the final test.

    - If CLA becomes Test Administration Centre for other international certifications, the cost for the enrolment will be the same as for the enrolment to the courses mentioned above according to the number of hours and of users;

    - The Language Centre can make special allowance for courses with more than 15 users or in case new courses will be promoted.

    - Users who enrol for a course on demand must pay the full fee, even if they cannot attend it.

    - The fee cannot be reimbursed for any reason. If a person is unable to attend the lessons he/she may be offered free enrolment in a subsequent course.

    - The enrolment fee should be paid after admission to the course has been confirmed (within the given date).

    3.7.4 Summer courses

    During the summer, Italian L2 intensive courses will be organized for students from foreign Universities. The aim of the lessons is to increase students knowledge of the Italian language and contemporary culture using various stimuli and techniques, and above all, to improve the students abilities of expression and comprehension within the context of the university and the Verona area.

    3.7.5 Italian L2 Frequently Asked Questions

    Can I attend more than one Italian course (ie.two courses of different levels) during the same semester? During the same semester students can only attend the lessons of one level; the level which has been decided on by the placement or entry test. However, after having spoken to the teachers, students may attend single parts of a course of a different level: for example, the grammar or the conversation part, according to individual needs and/or problems.

    I have a certificate of language competence from another University or certified body: Can I attend a course of the following level without having to take the placement test? You can attend the course of the following level. However, if you got your certificate more than a year ago, we suggest that you do the placement test anyway in order to check your current knowledge of Italian. Remember that you learn more by attending a course of a slightly lower level than one of a higher level!

    The scores I got in the placement test do not reflect my real knowledge of the language, I would like to attend a different level: what can I do? You can speak to the teacher: by speaking to you, the teacher can evaluate your real language level.

    I am a foreign student enrolled at the University of Verona. Can I take the Italian L2 tests and obtain a final certification? Yes, in the same way as the Erasmus students and OUTSIDE users.

    Do the Italian tests taken at the C.L.A. give credits (= C.F.U. = E.C.T.S)? Yes, they do. Taking your record of attendance into account, 3 C.F.U. will be given for the A2 certificate and 4 C.F.U. will be given for the B1-B2-C1 certificates. However, the recognition of these credits depends on your University of origin. Please note that the CLA certifications do not count directly towards any CFU credits. Credits may only be awarded by the Boards of the Degree Courses.

    FINAL ITALIAN L2 TESTS

    What does the test consist of? COMPUTER TEST: there are four parts (listening comprehension, reading comprehension, cloze test and grammar exercise) to be completed on the computer in 55 minutes. WRITTEN TEST: composition following a given track to be written with the computer in 55 minutes. ORAL TEST: it is an oral with the Italian L2 teacher (C.E.L.) according to the modalities decided for each level.

    Can I take more than one test at the end of one semester (ie can I get a certificate for more than one level)? During each test session you can only take the test for one level: if you pass this test, you can take the test for the following level in the next test session. If you dont pass this test, you can try it again in the following test session.

    5.1 CLA as TOEFL iBT official examination centre

    Courses which prepares for the TOEFL EXAMINATIONS + TOEFL iBT Test

    The Language Centre organizes courses, both in the first and the second semester, which prepare for the TOEFL exam. They last 60 hours (lessons: 40 hours + self-learning: 20 hours) and are open to internal and outside users (for charges see this guide, part 2, paragraphs 2.7.1 and 2.7.2).

    The University of Verona has been a TOEFL Test Administration Center since April 2007. The TOEFL test is the most widely respected English-language test in the world, recognized by more than 7,500 colleges, universities and agencies in more than 130 countries. Wherever you want to study, the TOEFL test can help you get there (TOEFL ETS web-site).

    The TOEFL exam is not a substitute for any of the CLA certifications, but it is generally required for postgraduate studies at US and Australian Universities. It is run by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and is supplied in the new iBT (Internet-Based Testing) version. The test lasts approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes and is marked with a progressive score from 0 to 120, which reflects the level of language competence. There are four sections: listening, reading, speaking and writing.

    5.1.1 Structure of the TOEFL iBT

    The TOEFL iBT is done entirely on the computer. It is divided into 4 parts: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing (see the table below):

    5.1.2 Scores Each section is given a score between 0 and 30. The final score is the sum of the partial scores for the four sections. The score report shows students' scores in the four skills areas and the total score.

    Students do not see their score at the end of the test but it will be sent, 15 business days later, directly to the address which was indicated by the candidate when he/she registered as well as to the institutions which were indicated during the registration procedure. Certificates are sent by ordinary US mail and they can also be seen on-line through the personal account which was set up at the time of on-line registration.

    Included with your registration fees are:

    1 printed and 1 online score report for you up to 4 official score reports that ETS will send directly to the institutions or

    agencies you select when you register

    5.1.3 How to register for the test - Online Registration: through the site www.ets.org/toefl under the Learners and

    Test takers section. Registration closes 7 days before your test date (not including the day of the

    test). Late registration closes 3 days before your test date (not including the day of

    the test) and has a late fee of US$25. Register anytime 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Spell your name exactly as

    it is spelled on the identification you will bring on test day. At the end of the on-line registration procedure you will receive confirmation

    of registration and the address of the exam center Pay with a credit/debit card: American Express, Discover, JCB,

    MasterCard, or Visa
