What is a Children’s street?• It is a street which is temporary
closed to motorized traffic (for a day or few hours), in order to let children safely playing in the street, and especially learning active modes.
• It could be a one-shot or regular measure.
• It is a citizen initiative (project led by inhabitants).

Why organising a children’s street?• To encourage et foster the play of children,
especially ealry learning of use of active modes.
• To raise awareness on energy-efficient transport, home zone, etc
• To encourage the taking-up of public space by inhabitants in residential area especially in home zone (new uses) and citizen initiatives citoyennes en zone de rencontre
• Foster the creation of social relations in the neighbourhood

Why participating ?
• For children, it is a chance to play outdoor and have some physical exercice. This is the good time to take out bikes, scooter, rollers… and improve their skills !
• For adults, it ‘s a chance to share a good time with their children or their neighbours. This is the eprfect time to teach how to ride a bike to chidlren !

How to organise it?• Initiative from inhabitants to hold
a collective project• Autorisations from publoic
authority to close and occupy the street

• Collective agreement on location, time and rules (such as forbidden games)
• Preparation of playing or educational activities• Communication : posters, letters, flyer, website…• Implementation and evaluation
