*Why is it Important to Learn
about Digital Literacy
*Professionals need to realize that technology is here to stay and is changing on a daily basis. If we are going to be able to teach students effectively, we have to stay abreast of these technological changes and advances.
Today’s students want information to be exciting and interesting. They find lecture and note-taking very boring, and if it is boring, they will tune us out!
Therefore, we need to learn some new tools to keep our kids engaged!
*Lectures?
Most students are not going to listen to lectures, so we have to “trick” our students by lecturing in a whole new way……
*Podcasting
We can present lecture type material by way of a podcast. Podcasts can be totally auditory, or we can use audio and video to create a video podcast.
*Video Podcast Example
*Web 2.0 Tools
Some other exciting new ways we can engage students is by using what are referred to as Web 2.0 tools.

*Video and Storytelling Tools
There are several video tools to choose from as part of the Web 2.0 tools. One that is good for younger students is Vimeo which allows them to create a short video with text.
Can you think of a way this would be useful with our new Common Core Standards?
