My term as Chairman is coming to an end this spring and I will hand over the reins to my very capable successor – Julie Regan. It is times like these that we are able to reflect on our accomplishments – and I am proud to say that during my tenure, the Foundation has undertaken many projects and initiatives that have furthered our good works in the community.

I am probably most proud of our direction moving forward. Every Foundation struggles with its mission and vision and after twenty years it was time to refresh our own – with a new focus on community health, “Inspiring Philanthropy for the Health of our Community” – and we didn’t just write down the words and walk away, we have really lived our mission over the last few years.

Q We established the Festival of Trees and Lights, encouraging the entire community to come together and celebrate the holidays while, supporting the health of our community.

Q We introduced the Barton Health Grants, which donate up to $25,000 annually to area organizations, creating innovative and inspiring programs with a focus on health.

Q We continue to pursue grants inside and outside the basin to fund programs for the underserved and uninsured in our community.

Q We are an active member of the non-profit collaborative and work with other area non-profits to help achieve regional goals.

Q We were instrumental in the development of the Barton Community Advisory Committee, which helps to identify and solve unmet health needs of our region.

Q We have worked to increase awareness of and generate funds for the Barton Community Clinic over the past two years and we have raised more than $80,000 in support of this effort.

And there is much more that we do daily to ensure that we are doing all that we can to make a positive difference in the health of our community. Leading this organization through this time of change has been rewarding and I am sure that it will continue to grow and prosper over the next twenty years.

Best Regards,

Mike Riley Chairman, Board of Trustees Barton Foundation2
