Dear Parents and Caregivers Welcome to our final newsletter for Term 1. While we started off with great enthusiasm for the term ahead and the events planned, none of us could have envisaged how it might unfold by the end of the term – strange times indeed! It is wonderful to see the many ways our community has pulled together to be supportive of the school, staff or those who are needing a little extra care and consideration at this time. Thank you for your affirmations, generosity, kindness and consideration wherever it has been needed. In the new landscape in which we now find ourselves, our teachers have been industrious and resourceful, as always, in adapting to a shift in lesson delivery from face-to-face to more remote modes of learning. Our year level teams have taken up the challenge and are currently preparing quality materials to ensure that our students are still provided with the equivalent standard of education to which you (and they) have become accustomed. Connect Flexible Classrooms have been established that will ensure both consistency within a year level while retaining the characteristic of individual classes. A reminder that the week between Monday 6 and Thursday 9 April will be pupil free days as teachers prepare materials for the possible Term 2 delivery modes. It is recognised, however, that keeping students home in this pupil free week may not be possible in some cases and, therefore, where students do attend, there will be supervision only but not instruction. At this stage, we are unable to provide clear guidance on the return of face-to-face learning for the start of Term 2, but we will ensure that we share, through our Connect platform, any advice from the Department of Education as it becomes available to us. One strategy, however, that we will employ from next term is to erect post boxes outside the school where students who have completed paper copies of set work can deposit them for their teachers. It will at least give students a taste of life in the days of snail mail where a walk to the post box was a regular exercise. Depending on the news in the coming weeks we are preparing both paper and digital resources for students. If students are encouraged to remain home in Term 2, packages will be available for collection on the PD day 28 April. Information will be updated over the school holidays. Despite navigating unchartered territory, some events have proceeded but in a scaled back form. Our Easter Raffle draw took place on Monday 30 March and the front office, for a short time, was adorned with an array of Easter baskets and bags choc-a-block full of Easter goodies. Congratulations to all our prize winners and we hope that it helped to bring you some early Easter joy. It is interesting what emerges during times of uncertainty and fear to help spread a message of care and hope. We have recently seen the trend of teddy bears appearing in windows, on fences and elsewhere as a symbol of unity and support. Our own Tidy Teddy has even found a new purpose as part of this movement while he hibernates from his usual role. Happy Easter, Stay Safe Kind regards Janine Bersan, Principal 2 April 2020 Issue 5

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome to our final newsletter for Term 1. While we started off with great enthusiasm for the term ahead

and the events planned, none of us could have envisaged how it might unfold by the end of the term –

strange times indeed!

It is wonderful to see the many ways our community has pulled together to be supportive of the school, staff

or those who are needing a little extra care and consideration at this time. Thank you for your affirmations,

generosity, kindness and consideration wherever it has been needed.

In the new landscape in which we now find ourselves, our teachers have been industrious and resourceful,

as always, in adapting to a shift in lesson delivery from face-to-face to more remote modes of learning. Our

year level teams have taken up the challenge and are currently preparing quality materials to ensure that

our students are still provided with the equivalent standard of education to which you (and they) have

become accustomed. Connect Flexible Classrooms have been established that will ensure both consistency

within a year level while retaining the characteristic of individual classes.

A reminder that the week between Monday 6 and Thursday 9 April will be pupil free days as teachers

prepare materials for the possible Term 2 delivery modes. It is recognised, however, that keeping students

home in this pupil free week may not be possible in some cases and, therefore, where students do attend,

there will be supervision only but not instruction. At this stage, we are unable to provide clear guidance on

the return of face-to-face learning for the start of Term 2, but we will ensure that we share, through our

Connect platform, any advice from the Department of Education as it becomes available to us. One

strategy, however, that we will employ from next term is to erect post boxes outside the school where

students who have completed paper copies of set work can deposit them for their teachers. It will at least

give students a taste of life in the days of snail mail where a walk to the post box was a regular exercise.

Depending on the news in the coming weeks we are preparing both paper and digital resources for

students. If students are encouraged to remain home in Term 2, packages will be available for collection on

the PD day 28 April. Information will be updated over the school holidays.

Despite navigating unchartered territory, some events have

proceeded but in a scaled back form. Our Easter Raffle draw took

place on Monday 30 March and the front office, for a short time, was

adorned with an array of Easter baskets and bags choc-a-block full of

Easter goodies. Congratulations to all our prize winners and we hope

that it helped to bring you some early Easter joy.

It is interesting what emerges during times of uncertainty and fear to

help spread a message of

care and hope. We have

recently seen the trend of teddy bears appearing in windows, on

fences and elsewhere as a symbol of unity and support. Our own

Tidy Teddy has even found a new purpose as part of this

movement while he hibernates from his usual role.

Happy Easter, Stay Safe

Kind regards

Year 1 Room 9—Bees

Year 1 Room 9 have been learning about bees. Bees are important because they pollinate our plants so that we have enough food to eat. They also make delicious honey. We made a bee hive and learnt about

the life of bees.

Thank you to all the students in Room 9 who shared their writing with us. Bees are fascinating insects.

Uniform Concepts

Please be advised that due to COVID-19 Uniform Concepts has changed their opening times. From 30 March they will be operating an online service only. Orders can be delivered to your home or collected from the Inglewood Store on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 2pm-5pm. The store will only be available for pre-ordered pickups. The store will be closed for over the school holidays from 10 April until 28 April unless otherwise advised.

Science Sightings

Science goes on! Children at Inglewood have been getting into their science lessons with enthusiasm. The year 4 classes have been learning about plant life cycles and this week, they made flowers for insects to pollinate. Here is what some from Room 16 had to say. I learnt today that pollen gets from the stamen to the pistil when pollinators get pollen on them and touch the stigma which is connected to the style, which leads to the ovule. The pollen touches the eggs and makes seeds. The ovary/ovule swells up and the other bits fall off. The seeds then become in a fruit. Abby S I learnt that ants are pollinators. Usually I call the place they make the seeds the ovary, but it is actually the ovule. The ovule expands into a fruit, like when a woman gets pregnant. Zara O Meanwhile, the year 5/6 class were modelling how some animals adapt to living in desert environments. They tested the rate of cooling on the surface areas of large-eared animals like the Fennec Fox. The fox uses its large ears to help it lose excess temperature in the hot deserts.

Home Learning and Resources

The Education Department has provided Learning from home resources to all West Australian students. The link to the website is https://www.education.wa.edu.au/learning-at-home

COVID-19 updates are on the school website.

Teachers are creating online resources which will be available through Connect and paper resources will also be available that align with these resources. An Information Booklet about Remote Leaning is being prepared and will be sent home next week via Connect and available on the school website.

Grazie

A great big "grazie" to the Strano family for presenting me with a totally unexpected gift. Such a positive thoughtful action during these uncertain times. I will enjoy tasting my home made tomato sauce on the holidays.

Molto grazie
