Canal Days is our community’s premier homecoming event, when we welcome all current and former residents and guests from all over
the tri-state area for a week filled with camaraderie and family-friendly fun.
The NHCD Festival Committee, which consists of a team of dedicated volunteers, community leaders, civic organizations, businesses, churches, and
residents, have been working hard all year long to bring quality events to our community that will entertain the entire family.
There is truly something for everyone to enjoy at Canal Days!
It is our goal to
serve as a catalyst for our local not-for-profit entities so that they have a specific avenue for raising funds for their projects, projects that in turn benefit our community as a whole. By uniting businesses and charitable organizations, the
positive rewards that are reaped dramatically impact New Haven’s overall quality of life!
Please join us downtown on Broadway, in Schnelker Park, and the space in between for the New Haven Canal Days Festival, June 4th through the 8th, 2019!

1958: A ‘Canal Boat’ was brought to New Haven during Canal Days.1959–1965: Festival activities were not held during this time.1966: A community-wide Centennial celebration was held. This successful event was coordinated by an extraordinary number of volunteers from throughout the community.1967–1973: Canal Days activities were not held in the city. However, an annual Sidewalk Days sale was organized by enthusiastic downtown merchants who banned together and later organized a small street festival along with the sidewalk sales.1974–1978 The New Haven Festival Committee was incorporated in 1974. Festival activities were held in downtown New Haven with the strong help and guidance merchants.1979–1985: Festival activities grew and were moved to the New Haven Plaza. This is where thru the Canal Days events took strong root within and throughout the community.1986: Festival activities were moved to Jefferson Township Park…the year of the “Big Rainout”!1987 to Present: Festival activities were moved back to the downtown area after a survey of business owners was taken. This location has proven to be very successful in terms of attendance and community support. Activities were eventually extended into the Schnelker Park area.Since 1976, the New Haven Festival Committee has reinvested its annual profits back into the City of New Haven.

THE magIC Of JIm barrOnThere are magicians who amaze and comedians who make you laugh but few
combine the two art forms like magician/comedian Jim Barron! Barron became interested in magic at the age of 10 and, while in the 5th and 6th grades, often performed magic shows for classmates at Hamilton Elementary in Hamilton Indiana. Today, Jim Barron performs for corporate events, festivals, fundraisers and even schools. Following his show, it’s not unusual to hear comments like, “I haven’t had that much fun in a long time” and “I’ve seen magic acts before but they never made me laugh like this! This show is really unique!”
