——— Election of New Pastoral Council ——

The purpose of the Pastoral Council is to research, reflect upon prayerfully, and wisely recommend a solution to a mat-ter requested by the Pastor. You will be the eyes and ears to the parish community and must be accessible and open to input from parishioners. To run, you must be a baptized Catholic, in good standing with the church, willing to commit the necessary time and effort to effectively carry out the re-quired responsibilities for 3 years. The current Pastoral Council term of 3 years is winding to a close this March. If you are interested in serving as a member for the 2012-2015 term or would like to cast a vote, please attend the Town Hall meeting on Saturday, March 3rd at 9 am in Assump-tion Hall. —–——— Safeguard The Children ——–—— The establishment of the Office of Safeguard the Children in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the formation of Safeguard the Children Parish Committees in the par-ishes were mandated by Cardinal Roger Mahoney in 2002. The Office of Safeguard the Children assists these permanent Parish Committees in implementing child sex-ual abuse prevention education, Safe Environment poli-cies, procedures and resources.

Click on http://www.archdiocese.la/protecting/ for more information.

All volunteers working with or around children must be fingerprinted through the Archdiocese and certified in the Safeguard the Children Program Protecting God’s Chil-dren. Information for both fingerprinting and Safeguard Classes are listed below. The Virtus training must be updated every 4 years. However, instead of the 3-hour Protecting God's Children program, people can recertify by completing the 1.5 hour Keeping the Promise Alive program. Fingerprinting does not need to be repeated.”

———————Did You Know?—————-—-

Keeping Kids Safe After School You can help keep your children safe by knowing where they spend their time after school. Get to know the adults who show up at the various locations in the community where children gather and where they play together. Be wary of any adult who seems more interested in creating a relationship with a child than with other adults. Pay at-tention when an adult seems to single out a child for a relationship or for special attention. Warning signs in-clude treats, gifts, vacations, or other special favors of-fered only to one specific child. For more information, please call the Archdiocesan Safeguard the Children office: (213) 637-7227.

————-Holiday Food Baskets————-

Please check labels for expiration date. If you wish for us to do the shopping for you, you may make a donation to OLA Food Basket. Thank you for your sup-port. Contact: Jerry Deal 275-2290.

————— Hermits of St. Giles —————— Greetings, Lent is such a wonderful season. However, it has been associated with "giving up", going without, and cutting back. The idea of entering the desert can be frightening sure, but if we enter with the essentials we can remain strong and see the beauty hidden in its bar-ren landscape. Allow this season to reveal what is most essential for you to get closer to Christ. Letting go and giving up are means to a deeper love relationship. Have a most blessed week. Please keep us in your prayers. Love, Bro. Mark Hermits of St.Giles 647-9089 hermitsofstgiles.org

Meetings are Tuesday mornings at 9:15am & Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm.

————————————- Lenten Taizé Prayer Service ——————————————-

Taizé prayer is a meditative and peaceful way in which we not only encounter God, but reflect on God’s message to us during our busy lives. Lent is a perfect time to slow down and focus on what it is God wants from us, as well as how we can offer ourselves to God through prayer and song. Please join us for this Taizé prayer service in Our Lady of the Assumption Church on Saturday, March 3rd beginning at 7:00pm. If you’ve never been ex-perienced a Taizé service, please come and be a part of it. For further information or questions, please contact Vincent Dominguez, Director of Music – (805)642-7966 x122.
