Dear DGS-members,

In 2013, the Annual Meeting of the German Society of Mammalogy (the 87th of its

kind) will take place in one of the most beautiful European capitals: Prague (CZ).

Prof. Jaroslav Červený and his colleagues from the Faculty of Forestry and Wood

Sciences, Czech University of Life Sciences, Prague, Czech Republic, will be our hosts.

The meeting will be held from 8th - 12th September 2013. A number of interesting

topics (taxonomy, biogeography, faunal relationships, ungulate

ecology/conservation, and many more) will be addressed.

More than 70 contributions (talks and posters) of mammal researchers from

Germany and beyond have been submitted for this conference. Plenary speakers

will be Ivan Horáček (Charles University Prague, CZ) who will talk about chorologic

structure and historical biogeography of mammals in Central Europe, and Yuriy

Vashukevich (Irkutsk State Agricultural Academy, Russia) whose talk will deal with

the impact of hunting on the free-ranging ungulate populations in the Baikal Siberia.

You can read more about this meeting below.

I hope you enjoy this newsletter, and I also hope to meet many of you in Prague!

Executive Secretary of the DGS – Essen, July 2013

Final decision on § 13 of our constitution At the last annual meeting in Frankfurt, the General assembly has approved with support from more than ¾ of the valid votes cast the following modification of § 13: §13 (old) „Der Verein hält jährlich eine Mitgliederversammlung (gleich Geschäftssitzung) ab, die mit einer wissenschaftlichen Tagung verbunden sein kann. [...]"

shall be replaced by

[...]" However, according to § 18 of our constitution*, any changes of the constitution must be approved two consecutive times by the General Assembly before they can be formally implemented. Therefore, we will have to decide upon this modification once more on Tuesday, September 10th, in Prague (see “Order of business – TOP 10” below). Please note also that the Amtsgericht Charlottenburg has refused to process English versions of the constitution, even as supplements. Therefore, despite the increasing internationality of our society, the paragraphs can be formulated in German language only. Of course, this affects also their modifications and their communication to the members.

* § 18. Satzungsänderung

§ 18. Changes to the constitution (non-official translation) Changes to the constitution can only be decided at a general assembly, if the text of the proposed change has been announced to the members together with the order of business. Alterations to the motions during the general assembly are possible. Changes to the constitution require support from 3/4 of the valid votes cast at two consecutive general assemblies.
