1.) Topography - The arrangement of the natural and artificial physical features of an area
The organisms on a flat land compared to a hilly one will have different movement muscles to one another

2.) Edaphic factors – Soil acidity, aeration, nutrition and water content levels will affect PRODUCERS – if the soil is too acidic, or too basic, plants will not grow.

Abiotic Factors in an Ecosystem3.) Climate - Rain, wind, temperature play factors in plant and animal life.
The amount of rain provides necessary water for photosynthesis and animal cellular processes
Wind has an effect particularly in the types of plant life that grow in certain areas
Temperature plays a key role in how rapidly plant and animal life is allowed to grow. Many animals cannot grow in certain temperatures.

4.) Catastrophe - Natural (or otherwise) catastrophes can have devastating effects on an environment, killing off large populations or perhaps even leading to the extinction of them

7.) Solar Energy Input – How much solar radiation does the ecosystem receive?
Solar energy input has an effect on how much plant life is available for photosynthesis. Producers are the foundation of the food web.
Sunlight also affects animal behavior, giving some animals cues for migration and reproduction

With your shoulder partner, begin planning your model of an ecosystem that you are both familiar with.
(River, Pond, Grasslands, Marine, Deciduous forest, etc)
List as many biotic and abiotic factors as you can think of.
For the biotic factors, list what biotic component (jenga block) they are (Producers, Primary Consumer, Secondary, etc)
Organize this information in BOTH of your notebooks.

Ecosystems are much more complex than you would think.
