Rebound men’s program provides 120 days of comprehensive substance abuse recovery services for approximately 400 men each year.

Dove’s Nest women’s program provides 120 days of comprehensive substance abuse recovery services for approximately 200 women and 20 of their children each year.

Dove’s Nest Families Program restores the relationship between mothers and their children with a goal of teaching new parenting skills and healthy relationships.

Transitional Services provides assistance to residents and graduates as they seek educational and vocational opportunities. Our priority is for them to return to society equipped for long-term success and sobriety.

Community Outreach allows us to serve the greater Charlotte community through our holiday meals program and provide awareness and assistance to those impacted by addiction.

OUR PROGRAMS

Charlotte Rescue Mission has been serving the community now for 80 years. And after 21 years of serving as the Director, I am still shocked to learn the horrific experiences our residents faced before walking through our doors. Although the faces change, I’m always taken aback by the all too familiar stories they share.

One woman told me when she was a pre-teen, her father would get drunk and hold a loaded gun to her head. The safety was off. In the moment, she had no idea if she would survive. Another woman went to jail because

she took the drug charge her boyfriend should have been charged with to protect him.

While this is hard to fathom for you and me, our residents see it as normal. So much of our task is untangling a web of damaging behavior they witnessed and internalized. Our job is to help our residents heal from the past and write a new future story.

I see the results every time I attend an alumni event. I listen to story after story about destructive worlds being transformed into a life of peace and serenity that God would have for them. I hear mothers rebuilding lives with their children that the county would have once placed in the foster care system. I see men

introducing me to their fiancé, celebrating a new cycle of healthy relationships.

As you read this report, please know you have done so much more than feed, shelter and clothe men and women who are in crisis due to their addiction. Your partnership with Charlotte Rescue Mission allowed their life to be transformed from the inside out. And much like our residents, Charlotte Rescue Mission continues to write a new story as we look to the future.

Thank you for being part of 80 years of a legacy of changing lives. I am so very grateful for your generous support that makes this important work possible.

Senico grew up in an abusive home, but excelled academically at school. When he started getting bullied by his family for being smart, he stopped applying himself.

When his stepfather left, his Mom told him he was responsible for buying his own shoes and clothes. To make ends meet, Senico started selling and using drugs while still in middle school. As he grew up, he continued to live a life of crime and addiction, which eventually ended up landing him in prison.

Years later, Senico made the decision to move to Charlotte and get clean. After graduating a different program, he went back to selling drugs for an income. He battled addiction for years before having another run in with the law and finally surrendering and coming to Rebound.

“[When] I came in here I was desperate,” said Senico. “I didn’t really want to hear it, but at the end of the day, I had to just be quiet. Sit and let these people help me.”

Senico graduated top of his class from the Rebound LEAP program and now lives in the Recovery Residences. He hopes to one day start his own landscaping business.

Janet desperately wanted to escape her troubled past after years of substance abuse, unhealthy relationships and estrangement from her loved ones.

After moving to South Carolina to escape her problems, she realized she couldn’t run away from her problems. Her despair became so great, she tried to take her own life. By God’s grace, she survived and while recovering learned about Dove’s Nest.

She tried the program, but her heart wasn’t ready to be transformed yet. After ending up homeless, she recalled the acceptance she felt at Dove’s Nest and returned.

“I believe that God brought me here for a reason,” said Janet. “He has a plan for me. My purpose in life has not passed.”

Today, Janet is working toward her goal of becoming a peer-counselor to help other women overcome destructive challenges.

This November, Charlotte Rescue Mission and Community Matters: Insurance Partners of Charlotte officially announced the creation of Community Matters Café, a full-service restaurant and coffee shop in the 100-year-old building next door to CRM’s Rebound campus, expected to open fall 2018. Its focus is to teach life skills to graduates of CRM’s residential substance abuse recovery programs while providing the community with an exciting new spot to grab a cup of coffee, stop in for breakfast or lunch, and gather for business and community meetings. To get involved or learn more about Community Matters Café, contact Kristin Blinson at [email protected] or 704-333-4673 ext. 238.

OUR MISSION

HOW TO GET INVOLVEDServing with the Mission allows volunteers to demonstrate the unconditional love and acceptance of Jesus to our residents, many of whom have lost their belief that they are worthy of such a gift. Your time at our Rebound men’s or Dove’s Nest women’s campuses helps transform the lives of those in need. Please visit www.charlotterescuemission.org/volunteer to serve a meal at our Rebound men’s campus.
