What good is God in a world filled with terrorists attacks, children sold into slavery, and millions of people dying around the world from starvation and/or diseases? Does faith really matter when you're in the midst of struggle and pain? The goodness of God is not merely an attribute of God but a foundational truth every Christian should embrace and fully understand. God is both perfectly merciful but also perfectly just. Share with the group a few reasons why understanding God’s goodness and justness is important to our faith. 1. What is your reason for believing in God? What or whom helped you come to faith? 2. What misconceptions or attributes of God have you had to learn/re- learn in your Christian journey? 3. What keeps you or your atheist/skeptical friends from beleving in God and accepting Jesus Christ as Savior? 4. How can faith be seen as a crutch? 5. In your opinion can a God of love also be a God of wrath? Why or why not? 1. Session 6 in The Reason For God video talks about wrath and hell. Read 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10. How do these verses explain the after life of a believer vs. and unbeliever? What are your reactions? 2. As a believer, how does this affect the way we ought to live? 3. Read Matt. 16:24-26. What does “deny yourself, take up your cross and follow Him” mean and what can that look like in your life? What can you change in order to help someone find and follow Christ? 4. Read Psalm 23. In the midst of trials, David, finds comfort in God. How can you find God’s goodness through these verses? What promises you can hold on to? 5. Do you have friends who claim to be an “atheist”, and choose to keep their distance from “God” due to the “evidence” they lack? How can this series help you take conversations to the next level? 6. End the Group session in prayer for your personal journey with Christ and for the individuals whom He is calling you to join on their faith-seeking journey.
