Generation 4 Change North East Awards 2016

Generation 4 Change North East are proud to be celebrating their first ever Awards in the North East.

These Awards provide an exclusive opportunity for the North East to celebrateoutstanding examples of excellence and best practice within our sector. G4C ispassionate about focusing on young people and showcasing the young talent in the industry. We are looking to celebrate achievements of this young talent and the organisations supporting and shaping the future leaders of our industry.

These Awards will showcase excellence and reward achievement for organisations and individuals who are successfully pushing our industry forward.

Winners are selected across 6 categories including commitment to training, newprofessional of the year and the G4C Award. This event is a great opportunity forcompanies who wish to be seen as proactively supporting and leading innovationwithin the Built Environment.

The winners of the evening will then automatically go towards the regional Constructing Excellence in the North East Awards which take place in June 2016.

Being recognised by your peers for excellence in construction will bring enormousbenefits to your business, helping you to attract new clients, cement existingrelationships and raise your staff morale. In order to be rewarded for all your efforts you must take part in the Awards, so apply today!

The deadline for submissions is Friday 29th January 2016 at 17.00.

The Awards dinner will be held at the Hilton NewcastleGateshead on Friday 1st April 2016.

Apprentice of the Year Award

Judges will be looking to award apprentices who are workingtowards or have recently completed their apprenticeship.Judges will look for:

• Exemplars who showcase the difference they have made in the industry and organisations they work in.

• Demonstrating commitment to personal development andprogression through contributions in the workplace.

• To be a shining example to other individuals looking to follow a career in construction.

Candidates must give examples of contributions in specificareas or projects in the workplace which have exceededexpectations.

Student of the Year Award

This award specifically recognises a student who stands outfrom the crowd with outstanding achievements and results.Judges will be looking for evidence of candidates who:

• Demonstrate outstanding achievement together withacademic excellence.

• Demonstrate high skill and are highly motivated and on thepath to becoming the leaders of tomorrow.

• Shows an excellent academic record showing initiative andprogression with considerations given to extraordinaryachievements in the face of adversity.

Applicants should have recently completed or are currently inHigher Education or Further Education. Applicants must becompleting or recently completed studies in Construction & theBuilt Environment field of study.

New Professional of the Year

The judges will be looking for an individual who has completedprofessional studies in construction & the built environment and embarked on a career within the industry. This awardrecognises the most talented individuals who have excelledwithin construction in the North East. This award will bepresented to a new professional who strives to make greatcontributions to the industry while demonstrating exemplaryperformance in their field of expertise, standing out from theirpeers. This can be demonstrated through their technical ability,client/customer focus, projects or engaging and responding tothe demands faced by clients and the industry.

Trainee of the Year

Judges are looking for candidates:

• Who are currently undertaking or have recently completedconstruction & the built environment work related training.Training can include short courses, personal development and progression or industry recognised training.

• Who have shown commitment to training and developmentwhile addressing the key elements of G4C.

• Who have progressed through their career and adapted toindustry change. Applicants should demonstrate achievementsthroughout their career and how they have developedcommunication, team and leadership skills.

Commitment to EmployeeDevelopment Award

This award will be given to the organisation who has best demonstrated a sustained commitment to employeedevelopment. Judges will be looking for a company:

• Who has a strategic plan that includes driving performance viaprofessional development while sustaining that commitment.

• Organisations that invest time and money into their employeesand set clear targets by providing staff with regular appraisalsand feedback.

• Entries should show and win particular respect from the workforce and community through workforcedevelopment, skills and training, equality and diversityinitiatives and improvements to health and safety and the working environment.

Young Achiever - G4C Award

This award looks to recognise a young achiever in our industry.The judges are looking for an individual:

• Who has best demonstrated a positive impact against thecurrent G4C (Generation for Change) priority areas of people,sustainability and innovation.

• Recognising outstanding performance or influence by anindividual who has been inspirational in the opinion of thesector peer group.

• Exemplary actions that have changed the behaviour orperformance of others and delivered disproportionatebenefits for, and left a legacy in, the outputs of the builtenvironment sector.

• Will show hallmarks championed by G4C and ConstructingExcellence such as a belief in best practice and a wholeheartedcommitment to the Rethinking Construction and Construction2025 agenda/principles. The key is that this needs to bevisible i.e. adopted and adapted to make a real differencewithin the sphere of the applicant’s own operation, influenceand community.

• Who can or will be leaders, opinion formers and championsof change.

Important information on how to enter (please read carefully before entering)

Qualifying

The industry is defined as all who commission, produce,develop, plan, design, build, alter or maintain the builtenvironment.

The organisation or individual must demonstrateimprovements in line with Constructing Excellence/ G4C principles, Rethinking Construction agenda andConstruction2025.

• An application can be made for an organisation orindividual however a separate application form MUST becompleted for each category (nominations are welcome).

• Where an individual, is the subject, theorganisation/divisional office/individual should be basedin the North East.

How to enter - Entry Guidelines

• All submissions must be made by 17.00 on Friday 29thJanuary 2016

• All entries should be submitted electronically, viaWeTransfer, Dropbox or USB/disc please label any folderswith both the category name and submitting organisation.

• Please include with your submissions logos (JPEG format)of ALL organisations involved

• Please include high resolution images that we may use ifsuccessfully shortlisted

• The organisers have the right to reject any entry if, in theiropinion, it fails to comply with the guidelines.

• Entries can be hand delivered or sent by registered post orcourier to:

Specific Entry Consideration

• Clients must be made aware in advance of any entries thatrefer to them and the judges may require evidence ofclient endorsement.

• The organisers reserve the right to feature / displaysubmitted material in any editorial or promotional workrelated to the award scheme.

• No materials will be returned.

Judging

• The panel of judges will consider each submissionagainst the category criteria.

• Winners will be announced at the G4C NE Awards onFriday 1st April 2016

• All awards are made at the discretion of the judges

• The right is reserved not to make awards in a particularcategory.

• The judges reserve the right to refuse entries without giving feedback.

• The judges have authority to move entries into moreapplicable categories and their decision is final

• Information supplied by the judges, or discussed betweenthe judges and entrants will be treated in completeconfidence, and confidentiality on the part of the entrantsif requested.

• The Winner from the Young Achiever – G4C Award willautomatically be entered into the regional ConstructingExcellence Young Achiever of the Year – G4C Award inJune 2016.
