What is Induction Week? Your first few days in September at HGS will not involve subject lessons. There will be
lots of activities to help you get to know your new form tutor, other students and find your way around the school.
These include your first full assembly, House challenges, photo orienteering around the school site, team games, an
Escape Room, logging onto the computer system and getting your email address, Resilience workshops, learning
about the library and a choice of subject workshops. There will be a Celebration Event held and you will be able to
invite Parents, Carers, Guardians, Grandparents and other family members to show them what you have been doing
(details tbc and will be subject to current Government advice). Normal lessons will start in the second week.
All students at HGS are in one of eight Houses. Each House
is represented by one form in each year group. The Houses
are named after famous and influential women.
Austen – Yellow Frank – Purple
Bronte – Green Jewel – Orange
Curie – Red Rosa – Rose/Magenta
Pankhurst – Teal Teresa - Blue
In normal circumstances we would be starting to visit you at your respective Primary Schools in the next few weeks.
However due to the current situation this isn’t possible so we will be bringing you an introduction to the HGS community
through a series of newsletters. This is the first of the series, with an update planned every 2 weeks via your
Parent/Carer’s email address; we hope it is helpful.
