Throughout the entire per1od, 1 February through 28 F-•'bruary, the
BattaJ.ion occupied and improved i t• s sector of the Division. resel"t'e
area and uarr1ed out ths assigned miee:tone as the North Battalion ot tbe Division Reserve Regiment, The Battalion was located in. the vic-
1n1 ty of' CS 076995, The missions of' the Battalion were: to prepare on order, to occupy blocking positions, to occupy assembly areas and
execute counter-attacks anywhere in the Division or I Corps Sector;
prepare for Anti-Meohardzad amploy=ant 1n co-.ordination w!'th el•aent•
of the let Tank Battalion anywhere in the Division sector; provide
secur1 ty for Spoonbill Bridge and MASR Team One; and oonduot intensive
training to improve amphibious and ground combat potential,
During the period the Batta1ion joined tive (5) o:ttiocr-a, two
hundred thirty-five (235) enlisted and six (6) Navy enlisted, The
Battalion tr~~sterred e1qht (8) officers, one hundred e1gbtJ-n1ne (189) enlisted and tour \4) Navy enlisted, The total strength ot the Battalion, at the close of' the period, is thirty-six (36) off-
icers, one thousand eighty-three (1083) enlisted , two (2) Navy orr-icers and forty-one {41) Navy enlisted.
During the period the Battalion l?artioipated in two (2) Divis-
ion, one (l) F~gim&nta1 and held one (1) Battalion Oommand Poet Ex-
ercise. The main missions of these exercises were to teat and im-
prove communivation facilities, the start and Oompany Command Groups
procedures and to determine the adequacy of equipment required to
operate in the field in a moving situation,

l February - As the period opened the Battalion continued to oooupy and
improve it 1 s sector ot the Division reserTs area, in the vicinity ot OS
0769i;'6, and oarrr out assigned miee!one. As a urn. t of the Dl.Yleion ree-
erYe the Battalion continued to develop and improYe sectors of the XAHSAS
IJ.ne. Interior guard and outpost security were maintained on a twenty-
tour (24) hour basis. Additional security patrols were oonduoteci along
routes in and around the resel'Ye area ~or the purpose ot preYent~ng sub-
veraiTe activity within the B&ttal1cn•a :ector ot reepons1b1l!ty~ !he
Battalion also provides aeouri ty tor Spoonbill Bridge and ~SR-1. An
intensive tra1ni.ng schedule vas established tor all personnel, Able and
Baker rations were served three (3) times daily to all companies within
the reserve area. Showers were available to all personnel and movies were
shown nightly. Empb&aia was placed upon making personnel cf the B&ttalton
as comfortable as possible while in reserve. ftl.e training tor the period

ot the 3. 5" rocket launcher, scouting and patrolling, venereal disease,

by opening 1ts command post 1n the vicinity ot OS 082988. The purpose o~
this exercise was to test the oommunicat1on tao111t!es, the •tar~ pro-
cedures and to determ1ne the adequacy ot equipment requ1red to operate in
t:lli= :t'ield !.n a !!lOVing !!11 tuat1on. During the period the training consist-
ed ot troop inspection and close order drill, operation of' the flame-

7 February - The Battalion continued to occupy and improve it 1 e sector ot
the Division reserve area and carry out assigned missions. At 0720 elea-
ente ot the Battalion departed the :&attal1on CP en:route to their respect-
ive posi tiona on the JCANSAS Line. The purpose or this exerci .. was to
aoqua!nt personnel w1 th the most direct route to and from theb• posi tiona
on the KANSAS Line. At 1030 the exercise was secured and ele .. nts of the
Battalion departed the KANSAS Line enroute to the Battalion ~serve area.
At 1045 the 'first el.ements of the Battalion arrived at t~~ Battalion OP.
DUring the afternoon hours the Battalion held a Memorial Service in mea-
oey or those sum JU.~l.ed or m1 !!1!!1ng 1n action while the Batta11en was de-
tending the MLR. The entire Battalion participated. Due to the exercise
on the KANSAS Line and the Memorial Services the only train1ag completed
during the period was night operations of a squad raid. All =ocur1 tr

MEDICAL SUMMARI
During the period, l February through 28 February, an intensive
preventive disease program was maintained. Wartor1n rodent polson was
distributed psr:todically in working and living quarters. 'rli1rt1-s1X
( 36) rat traps were drawn :t'rom Battalion SUpply and issued as needed
in the Battii.11on. A quantitr ot Lindane dust!ng powder vaa dN.wn and
all Battalion Units have weekly :t'ield days when betlding and tents are
dueted and aired.
While this Battalion has been in reserve, facilities were avail-
able f'or washing of oloth1r.g. A laundry tLM.ai t !'.as been eatabliflhed~
Miticide solution has been employed tor the regular dipping ot all

The meashall and mess equipment were inspected dail7 by the Med-
ical. Officer. In addition to a daily wor..Jd.r..g inspection ot the meaa
men, a formal weekly' physical examination was made.
The company areas were inspected periodically by the KedicaJ.
Ot:t'icer. Urinals and heads received daily inspection by the Corps-
man in charge or San1 tation, in add.i tion to Unit Corpsman• = 1nspeot-ions, to insure proper use ot chlorinated lime, burning proce
dures
and gene~ olear~inese.
All hands or the Battalion received smallpox vaccinations.
Personal hygiene was stressed, root inspection were held daily
and personal. ul.earU.1nasa 1na1sted upon. L.eoturee were g1Yen al.l MR
details by the Battalion Medical O:t'ticer on VD and the dangers accoap-
!LI'ly!ng eating ot native toode and drinking alcoholic bever.ges pur-
chased in Seoul.
The entire Battalion received F1rat Aid lectures and tnstruot-
ions on the dangers ot narcotics.
All. new corpsmen received routine lectures upon their arrival. in
this Battalion. Such subjects as conduct and t1eld treataent ot cas-
ua1t1es with this Battalion, the use o-r the pistol waa covered by the
Battalion Armorer and instruction in special phases were given by the
Medical Ott1oar.
~ dental problems were handled by the Regimental and Division
Dental Clinics.
Dur1ng the period. oover-ed by this report there were no battle
casualties, there was one (1) evacuated non-battle oasualt7 and three
{3) evacuations tor d~eeaee. One or these evacuations was proven
meningitis, type not determined. Propby1actio 8Ultad1azine was given
the Battalion. All evacuations were by routine channels. Eleven (11)
