INVOCATION
Dir. Nestor Toledo Rotarian of the Evening
Our thanks, Lord, for those gathered here and for the sense of high purpose we share. As we begin a new year, grant our new officers stamina, patience and a sense of humour, that we may relax together and so create meaningful fellowship and selfless service, without taking ourselves too seriously in this your world and Rotary service. Amen
I want to be a Rotarian for the world, Make the Rotary flag be a flag of peace unfurled; I will serve my community, Help to seek international unity. Through Rotary, I will dedicate my all, World understanding shall be my cherished goal.
Refrain: With the Four Way Test I will pursue my quest And if I, in a way help obtain Peace in the world Then I won't have lived in vain.
I'll observe service above self, Lend a hand to all who need my help; I'll get my spouse to involve in Rotary And in Rotary ways I will train my family.
Refrain: With the Four Way Test We'll pursue our quest And if we, in a way help obtain Peace in the world Then we won't have lived in vain.
Build a bridge for tomorrow's youth, Strengthened by nothing but the truth; Let's join our hands, there's no reason to divide. We shall all understand, while the good Lord is our guide.
Refrain: With the Four Way Test We'll pursue our quest And if we, in a way help obtain Peace in the world Then we won't have lived in vain.
Peace be achived, So we won't have lived in vain.
“The road to success is always under construction” – Lily Tomlin Good evening, my dear Champion RCCPC Rotarians! Welcome to our first general membership meeting under the leadership of President Jun Falcon. I would like to congratulate
the new club president for his successful induction last June 24, 2019 at Cebu Country Club, Cebu City. We were grateful and honored to our Japanese sister clubs, namely: RC Yokohama Konan, RC Konandai, RC Oita Minami and RC Tatebayashi, for their generosity extended to the club through the help of PP Marcy Koike. Arigatou gozaimasu to our Japanese sister clubs. My gratitude and appreciation goes to IPP Rodien, PP Marcy Koike, PP George Hong, PDG Anton Florendo, PP Toby Florendo, PP Al Alcibar, PP Joel Valer, PP Jack Jamero, PAG Gilbert Cabatana, Rtn. Robert Barquilla, outgoing and incoming BOD, some Past Presidents, Master Star Espino, RCCPC members and lovely spouses who made their contributions for the success of the 35th Induction and turn-over ceremonies as well as the golf friendship game with our guests. This year Champion Team hopes to sustain projects and activities that previous leaders had done with loving each other as mentioned by President Jun. This way the club will be able to use wisely the donations given by the Japanese Sister Clubs and other sponsors as we continue to inspire the humanity by connecting to the world. Last June 27, 2019, We had our first BOD meeting at 5:30 in the afternoon in Figaro Ayala Terraces, Cebu City. There were 12 officers present during the meeting, to wit: Pres. Jun, VP Boboy, Treas. Updated list on the Semi Annual Report (SAR). Based on the approved board resolution on SAR, the board decided to deactivate the following Rotarians from RI Online Roster until they can pay their outstanding dues: 1. Ed Ang Gobonseng, 2.Wonjin Bae, 3. Ariel Condat, 4. Ike Enriquez, 5. Dave Ismael, 6. Jun Pagatpat, 7. Janos Vizcayno. As of June 30, 2019, there were 44 members and 3 honorary members on SAR; 3.Governor’s visit was scheduled on July 22, 2019 (Monday); 4. Strategic planning was scheduled on July 13, 2019 at Cebu Marine Beach Club, Cordova, Cebu. Lastly, as per DG Philip Tan challenge us to attract more members, share our Rotary vision and ideals and connect to the world.
“Rotary Connects The Word” – RI Theme 2019-2020 Welcome to our first Rotary Club meeting for RY 2019-2020! First of all, after giving thanks to our Almighty God, allow me to extend my deepest appreciation to everyone who made our recent Club Induction successful. It was indeed a night full of
excitement and joy, especially to our sister Japanese clubs who witnessed our affair with much delight and appreciation. The visitations of twenty (20) Rotarians to Cebu for our Induction made us all proud and I was speechless to the overwhelming support they have shown to us. A sincerest gratitude and thanks to PP Marcy for facilitating it. Before our actual Induction day, some of us were already quite busy accompanying and accommodating our Japanese guests. My appreciation to the support of following Rotarians who made it fruitful and please allow me to name a few of them:
To PP Marcy who facilitated - from hotel reservations, airport entourage (arrival & departure), restaurant arrangements, project visitations, and non-golfers Cebu tour, etc.;
To PDG Anton Florendo – for his presence during dinners with Japanese guests and sharing his words of wisdom;
To Sec. Jensen Racho and Treas. John Sulay – who were there with me during the arrival of our Japanese guest (with PP Marcy), and joined the non-Rotarian tour at Mactan with our guests;
To IPP Rodien Paca – for mobilizing his transportation, his presence and lunch facilitation of Japanese guests visiting Naga & Talisay projects;
To VP Boboy Tan – for mobilizing his transportation and accompanied our Japanese guests in visiting our Water Drilling projects;
To PP George Hong – for extending support on transportation and his presence during dinners with guests;
To PP Edward Go – for taking care of golf play arrangements and green fees at Cebu Country Club and full support to our Induction;
To PP Toby Florendo - for his presence with guests and facilitated the successful golf play at Alta Vista;
To PP Al Alcibar – who joined the non-Rotarian tour of our Talisay and Naga projects;
To PP Joel Valer – for his presence during Golf play with our Japanese guests and selflessly honouring the ‘Honest John’ system and contributed more.. ;-)
To Rotarian Melvin Go – for volunteering to be the chairman of our Golf play with Japanese guests;
To Rotarian Robert Barquilla – for representing RCCPC in asking our City Mayor-Elect, Hon. Edgar Labella for his newspaper message. And for joining the non-Rotarian island-hopping tour at Mactan with our Japanese guests;
And the last, but not the least, to Star Espino – for her valuable contribution in the preparation, documentation, and full support to our Club Induction.
To our Club Officers and Board of Trustees, I know that you were there – in one way or the other – contributing to the success of our Induction. Kudos to everyone! I am appealing and praying for your continued help to our journey for this year. Let us unite and join our hands and embrace the challenges our District and RI’s have given us, most especially in complying to our Key Result Areas – Club Administration, Membership Development & Retention, The Rotary Foundation (TRF), and Public Image & Service Projects. These are all for the benefit of our project recipients, our community, and Rotary-wide beneficiaries specifically the poor and marginalized. As mentioned by Sec. Jensen’s column, we have upcoming activities and we need your full commitment to it. Our dear Club Members, PP Presidents, Rotaractors, and our Club’s supporters, thanks staying with us. Please we need your continuing backing, assistance and encouragement. Be with us in implementing innovative ways to meet the diverse needs of our society. This past year, RI President Barry Rassin challenged all Rotarians to extend Rotary’s impact far into the future and invest in the Rotary leaders of tomorrow. We are still looking for more people to join us. For our coming Rotary events, please note that (1.) there will be a District-wide distribution of goods to Tipolo fire affected area and it will be announced soon. Our Club will join on said distribution and we are encouraging everyone’s support. Thus, we are still open for more donations – in cash and in kind (e.g. used clothes, kitchen materials, educational supplies, and the like). As of todate, there were more than 500 families affected and they our help. (2.) In preparation for our Governor’s visit (which is scheduled this July 22 – Monday) and for an effective direction of our Club, there will be a Strategic Planning for our Officers and BOD this coming July 13, 2019 at Cebu Marine Beach Club, Cordova, Cebu. We thank Treas. John Sulay for his recommendation and arrangement to the area. Lastly, as Rotarian, we should remember this: We connect people (Rotary unites more than a million people). We transform communities (We take action locally and globally). We solve problems (No challenge is too big for us). Therefore, we should uphold our CAUSES: 1.) Promoting Peace, 2.) Fighting Disease, 3.) Providing Clean Water, 4.) Saving Mothers & Children, 5.) Supporting Education, and 6.) Growing Local Economies. God bless us all!
