At Shady Grove Elementary we focus on the AVID philosophy. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. What is AVID?

AVID is not just another program, at its heart AVID is a philosophy that holds students accountable to the highest standards, provide academic and social support, and they

will rise to the challenge.

AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

One way Shady Grove Elementary and Burnet CISD displays a college readiness culture is by wearing college or career t-shirts every Wednesday.

We are also asking that each student makes a pennant to represent a college or university of their choice. It can be the family’s favorite university or college, one a parent has attended or one they research. Partner with your student to help them in creating a pennant to hang in their classroom. Please have the pennants returned to school no later than September 7 th .
