not been able to satisfy itself sufficiently as to the accuracy and secrecy of the chosen system.

Around €40 million has so far been spent in acquiring the necessary machines.

“If technology can be controlled for the benefit of society, we must thereforeask, controlled how and by whom?”Rosenberg, Richard S.. 1997. The Social Impact Of Computers – 2nd ed.,Academic Press, Inc., Pages 496.

Sir Alec Jeffreys, the British inventor of the modern forensic ‘DNAfingerprinting’ technique emphasised that he would feel “very uncomfortable”if such a national database were run by the police

DNA Database You Say??

“But what about my PRIVACY?”, say…. Umm…. Officials. Yes…

Officials.

I am Wayne Walsh.

White Group Rules!!

Privacy you say??

“But what about my…. Uh…..DNA Database…?”, say… No-one!... Yes that’s it. No-one! Muahahahahahaaaaa!!!

White Supremacy!*

*This is not a racist suggestion.

• “Clearly privacy is important for our society, and for the computerized society in our future. But does the unlimited proliferation of computer-accessible data about individuals undermine the kind of privacy we need?“-Erman, M. David. Williams, Mary B.. Shauf, Michele S.. 1990. Computers, Ethics, and Society - 2nd ed., Oxford University Press, Pages 16, 80.

This guy is here for no reason ------>

Green Group Sucks!!

• Can we trust whoever is in control of the database to use the information the way it was intended to be used?

• This slide looked very bland and boring with just one point on it so I decided to add this completely meaningless point to keep it company and to make it look like I did lots of work. Yay!

• What a shitty colour scheme. • That last slide was quite boring don’t you agree?

Only the first point is relevant.

Brendan Tangney Rocks!!

What kind of colour is green anyway?

• The establishment and maintenance of a secure, high standard DNA retention system would require significant input of resources by the state. In light of the limited resources available to law enforcement agencies in the state, the value of using such resources on a DNA database as oppose to in other areas of crime detection and prosecution must be questioned in light of the volume of perpetrators of crime likely to be detected through reliance on a database.- Irish Council for Civil Liberties. www.iccl.ie

[Insert boring quote and or statistic here.]

Would you tell this poor child he just lost a debate??

Why?Why?

Why do we need a database??

“and you all know security is mortals’ chiefest enemy” – Hecate, Macbeth Act 3, Scene 5

The picture is of Hecate by the way. You uncultured swines!

Isn’t Sarcasm wonderful?

Guilty until proven innocent?

Summary Summary

Due to previously mentioned stuff, a DNA Database would be too hard to implement.

Certain privacy and civil rights issues are raised. Why do we need it?

o It wont live up to people’s expectations.

o We will become over-dependant on the system

We love tequila! Pulp Fiction Rocks!! Therefore, by implication, the green team sucks.
