4 Theater Salpuri is an international theater company consisting of actors, dancers, musicians and visual artists from different cultureswith different artistic and cultural backgrounds.

Theatre S A L P U R I was founded 1994 in Berlin by the korean actress Soogi Kang & the german director Dietmar Lenz withthe Dance-Theatre „PIRI - The cry of the soul ...“ to the music of YUN, ISANG : „Piri“ for Oboe solo.

The artistic aim is to create interferences between different art forms and cultures in higly

differing ambiences, which may result in a new form of theatre : a forth - world - theatre.

The centre of our work is the inter-cultural dialogue : t.h.e.a.t.e.r__i.n__b.e.t.w.e.e.n.

Different acting methods from East-Asia, Africa, Latin-America and Europe meet within the rehearsel-

process with actors/dancers from different nations. Today no longer seperate cultures do exist. What

we see today is that in all existing medias a cross-over of cultural forms, technics and identities, tra-

ditional and modern, do happen. As artists we have to produce art which is rooted in changing cultu-

ral contexts. Old definitions of traditional and modern no longer seem useful today. The process of

changing time forces us to de-contextualise : we, artists, learn how to journey from one into an-other

context : from „tradition“ to „modern“, from future into past, from one culture into another, from motion

into e-motion, from painting into dancing/acting, from images into music, from body to spirit - to body.

We may discover the specific energy which arises by becoming conscious of that what is not identic

in between different art forms and cultures!

Grafic-Tanz-Theater ist Drama in szeno-choreo-grafischen Bildern; istInterdisziplinäre Performance - Parade - Prozession - Installation. Hauptziel ist dieEntwicklung einer szenisch - performativen Dramaturgie der Körper, Formen,Farben und Bewegungen im und mit dem Raum. Das Zusammen-spiel von Tanz /Schauspiel / Musik / Text / Stille / Objekt / Figur / Raum & Kostüm kreiert ein dra-matisches Gesamtgeschehen. Als Performance entsteht eine grafisch-choreografische Inszenierung, die sich als abstrakte Malereiin Bewegung entfaltet.

Grafic-Tanz-Theater ist seinem Wesen nach ikonographisches Theater.Ein Bild-Zeichen ist mehrdeutig, verbindet sich mit den Bildern des Betrachters;Wahrnehmung und Vision erzeugen sich gegenseitig.Grafic-Tanz-Theater reißt Löcher in den urbanen Alltag, bildet einen Gegenentwurfzur Wahrnehmungszerstörung der Medienrealität. Es führt den Zuschauer ausdem Lärm des Urbanen heraus, des-orientiert das alltägliche Schauen, kreierteine Distanz zu vertrauten Wahrnehmungs-weisen, führt so zu einem Sehen jen-seits der Bilder, zur Kontemplation.

Der Akteur scheint in diesem Theater zugunsten des Optischen zu verschwinden,doch wird er stattdessen durch dieses erst wirksam. Er ist Teil einesSpannungsfeldes, welches er immer aufs neue erst erzeugt, in gesteigerterPräsenz lebendig macht. Der Akteur dieses Theaters fragt nach der Authentizitätund der Bühnen-präsenz jeder Gebärde, jedes Zeichens im Bühnenraum. JederGestus, jedes Zeichen wird Teil des bildhaften Raums.

Starting point of this Grafic-Dance-Theater-Project is the poem "The Conferenc of the Birds“ by the persian Sufi-poet of the 12 th century Farid Uddin Attar. It tells about the quest for the Simurgh, the true King. Through sevenvalleys and seven deserts the adventure goes. This quest askes the birds to let go all their anxieties, desires, fearsand sadnesses. The aim of this travel is the meeting of the birds with their true king of the heart, which is the big-gest riddle of their quest.: "The sun of his majesty is a mirror". Those who meet their King, the Simurg, see them-selves in him : the King and the Ego is one.

"Cultural diversity is the common heritage of humanity".3 actresses - german, korean, brasilian- investigate in a ritual performance the antique text ANTIGONE,in which they discover matrices of relations between male and female, sister and sister/brother, opressorand oppressed, mortality and divinity, the individual and the state authority. Divers cultures, diverslanguages oscillating between mother tongue and foreign language, between body and language, bet-ween word/song/sound/noise and music, between the corporal and the incorporal.

The challenge to the actor in this dreamlike ... visionary ... spiritual ... down to earth ... Ritual ..."The challenge as an actress is to simultaneously play 3 different roles in 3 different epoches in 3 dif-fernt languages at the same time. It´s a play about human rituals ... far beyond laws and principles.“The characters are emblematic, and the actor plays not only multiple roles, but herself, merging herown experience with Sophocles’ multi-layered text ANTIGONE.

Der Ursprungsmythos des koreanischen Schamanismus "Princess PARI" wird voneiner Schamanin innerhalb der CHINOGI-KUT genannten Schamanen-Toten-Zeremonie gesungen, die den Seelen der Verstorbenen die Tore zum Jenseits �ff-nen will. Bevor die Schamanin die Seele aus dieser Welt f�hrt, gew�hrt dieseZeremonie den Seelen der Toten, wie auch den Hinterbliebenen, eine "Ruhepause"(kor. Malmi). In dieser Zwischen-Zeit, dieser Leere zwischen Leben und Tod, klei-det sich die Schamanin in das regenbogenfarbene Kost�m einer Prinzessin undsingt in einem epic shaman song von einem K�nig, der, in Erwartung einesTrohnnachfolgers, die unwillkommene siebte Tochter PARI von sich st��t in dasMeer des Blutes jenseits der gelben Quellen. Sie w�chst auf in Dunkelheit, einge-weiht in buddhistisch-schamanistische Praktiken. Ein Subjekt des Risikos, auf/jen-seits der Grenze, au�erhalb der symbolischen Ordnung, in Liebe zum eigenenWerden. "Tanzend im Schatten ihrer Verneinung" durchst��t PARI auf ihrerUnterwelt-Reise die Tore der H�llen, findet das Wasser des Lebens, mit dem sieihren verstorbenen Vater wieder zu Leben erweckt. "Ein K�nigreich ist nicht vonDauer. Ich m�chte die K�nigin der Mudang, der Schamanen werden, zum Heil derMenschen", so die letzten Worte dieses Schamanen-Epengesangs.

Auf der Null-Linie, dem Unendlichen zugewandt, zeichnet die Schamanin dasSinnbild eines transformatorischen Subjekts, das sich selbst aufrichtet, indem essich dem Nicht-Sein, dem Unbekannten entgegenwirft: eine "Hymne" an die"Unzerst�rbarkeit des Lebens". (K. Ker�nyi) "The shaman goes beyond entertain-ment reaching the core of the culture." (Schechner)

In die Gestalt von PARI einzutreten, bedeutet, eine "Kultur des �bergangs" zupraktizieren zwischen Raum, Vision und K�rper, zwischen Leben und Tod, zwi-schen Kulturen, zwischen dem Menschen und dem Heiligen. Sich mit dieser Figurin Ber�hrung zu bringen, bedeutet, nach dem Verh�ltnis von Souver�nit�t undW�rde im Akt des Sich-Selbst-Gebens zu fragen.

Ein Encounter zwischen 4Schauspielerinnen aus Seoul (Korea)und 3 Schauspielerinnen aus Berlin.

Ein Encounter mit dem Mythos derPrinzessin Pari, die als Kind vom Vaterverstoßen, dieses Trauma überwindet,indem sie in der „Unterwelt” zur erstenSchamanin initiiert wird. Der Beruf derSchamanin, als performatives Mediumder Götter und Geister, in Analogie zurSchau-spielerin, die sich zum Medium

ihrer Rolle macht, eine imaginärePersönlichkeit „verkörpernd”. Beides

Praktiken, die Ästhetisches undTherapeutisches ver- binden,

die „verstorbene” Seele aus der„Unterwelt” zu holen.
