CARIBOO FAMILY ENRICHMENT CENTRE - Annual Report 2017-20184

Board Chairperson’s ReportIt gives me great pleasure to mark the completion of the 2017/18 year for Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre (“CFEC”). This year has given me both personal pride and pleasure to be associated with such a superb organization, and the staff that powers it.

This has been a year of change, with the retirement of Executive Director Lisa DePaoli and the succession of Chris Pettman to the position.

Transition has its challenges, and I thank both Lisa and Chris for managing the passing of the baton with professionalism and care for our primary consideration; our clients.

The organization has begun the process of creative visioning that Chris Pettman brings to the job, with great promise for our role in the South Cariboo. I know good things are on the way!

I am also pleased to congratulate Chris Pettman on the completion of his Masters of Business Administration degree with a specialization in Social Enterprise Leadership. The Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre embraces the policy and practice of supporting continuing education for all staff. This achievement by Chris brings a level of professional expertise to CFEC and benefits the entire South Cariboo community greatly.

This year Lisa and Chris worked together with staff to complete Imagine Canada accred-itation; this accomplishes the goal of attaining accreditation by a Canadian agency, in addition to our accreditation with COA (Council On Accreditation). I am pleased to have this Canadian accreditation as it is more directly applicable to our work here in the South Cariboo.

Finally, in another change this year, we congratulate and thank Sheila Hart for her many years of service to CFEC as a valued and passionate Board member and Chair. No person dedicates themselves to the Board of an organization such as ours, except as a com-munity builder and contributor. There is no particular personal gain to be had, except in knowing one is contributing positively to the community they live in.

We wish Sheila all good things for the new activities and projects that she is now setting out on, and thank her wholeheartedly for everything she has brought to CFEC.

CARIBOO FAMILY ENRICHMENT CENTRE - Annual Report 2017-2018 5

Executive Director’s Report

Dear Friends,

Thank you for making 2017/2018 another successful year for the Cariboo Family Enrich-ment Centre. This past year marked 28 years that the Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre has offered services to children and families in the South Cariboo. Through community support and the work of our dedicated staff, we have expanded our reach while strength-ening our programs and services.

Of course, the biggest news of the year for “CFEC” was the retirement of long-standing Executive Director Lisa DePaoli. Under Lisa’s final year of leadership, CFEC solidified itself as a reliable and credible social service organization by attaining accreditation through Imagine Canada’s Standards Program. The program awards charities and non-profits who demonstrate excellence in five areas of operations: Board Governance, Financial Accountability and Transparency, Fundraising, Staff Management, and Volun-teer Involvement. Non-profits and charities seek accreditation in order to bolster trust and confidence in their organizations, and in turn, to be seen as leaders in their sectors.

Lisa leaves behind a legacy of excellence that has positively altered the quality of services that CFEC offers. Thank you Lisa!

The Executive Director’s Report would not be complete without acknowledging the commitment of our Board of Directors. As part of their duties, a Board of Directors steers an organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound and ethical legal gover-nance and financial policies. At the heart of our board you will also find a dedicated and passionate assembly of community members who envision a better life for children and families of the South Cariboo.I look forward to the coming year with excitement and vigor as we work collaboratively with our partners and supporters in order to improve the quality of life for children and families in our community.

Thank you,

Chris Pettman
