Five years of shaping Exposure to
Ideas that mould and shape our

Sports with Spartanistic ideals
Personalities cut and polished tender from the abrasives we

BEN F. HURT, Principal
An immeasurable weight of responsi
bility bears upon our administration and
school board. Together they guide our
education. They select the faculty, de
termine the curricula, support the extra
curricula, and provide maintenance for
the school plant. Both administration and
school board give us a strong and sound
school affording us development and
growth, opening horizons which guide
and encourage us to a sound future.

MRS . MATTIE FORNES B.S.; M.Ed .
English II; Guidance 9, 10
They endeavor to find order in confusion
sheaves of purple mimeograph paper,con
stantly ringing telephones, typewriters
busily pecking out tests and schedule
changes, baskets of excuses to sign, and
more schedules to change. Yet we find
efficiency in this chaos and ever-present
friendly greeting and words of advice and
encouragement to help our travel through
five transitional years.

We face the future with warm courage,
And high hope.
For we have the clear consciousness
Of seeking old and precious values.
For we are the builders of homes
Homes for America's future.
Homes where living will be the expression of
everything
That is good and fair.
Homes where truth, love, security, and faith
Will be realities, not dreams.

We face the future with warm courage,

VARSITY BASKETBALL
Coach Ed Null and managers Joe Sabitini, Jerry Gough, Foster Paulette, and John Titus .
In one of the greatest wins of the season, a highly spirited Albemarle team, sparked by stunning victories over Orange and Henrico in the weeks before, crushed Culpeper by a score of 40 to 7.
Riding on the crest of a 3-game winning streak, the Patriots suffered their first and only defeat at the hands of the highly favored "Fighting Leemen" of Staunton.
The . Patriots did a little weather forecasting for themselves and turned back the Scarlet Hurricanes of Lexington in a 24 to 6 victory. This was the fifth win of the season.
In the last game away from their home field, the Patriots held the Blue Streaks of Harrisonburg scoreless. Meanwhile A.H .S. was able to tally 20 points of their own.
VARSITY Football
AI bema rle opened their season with an 18 to 12 victory over 0 range. With only seven lettermen returning, Coach King had high hopes for the team.
Continuing their short winning streak, A.H .S. rolled to a large win, defeating Henrico by a score of 33 to 7 . 1twasthefirst home game this year for the Patriots, and they put on a fine performance.
Albemarle took some of the "Fight out of the "Fighting Blues" of Parry McCluer High School and held them to a 0-0 tie. This was the only game the Patriots tied all season.
In spite of the absence of Albemarle's star halfback, Eddie Herring, the Patriots defeated the Rebel forces of Louisa in one of the most evenly matched games of the year.
The Patriots turned into Giant Killersasthey defeated the "Little Giants" of Waynesboro on a muddy home field in the "dirtiest" of the season's contests.
Under the weight of a strong Albemarle team, Natural Bridge fell as hundreds of Homecoming fans cheered the team to their eighth victory in the final game of the season.

The Patriots, starting their season right, defeated the Blue Devils of Culpeper on the Albemarle court. They repeated the performa nee on the Culpeper court two weeks later. In the first district game of the season on December 6, the Patriots defeated Harrisonburg, but later lost when they travelled to
there was only a one point difference in the scores of the second game played at Waynesboro. As with Culpeper, the Patriots won both games against Natural Bridge, but lost both to a strong R.E. In the Group 1-B Northern Regional Play-offs, held in Memorial Gymnasium at the University of Virginia, the Patriots, although they fought all the way, were defeated by a powerful team from Faquier County. Our congratulations to a fine basketball team.
Harrisonburg. Albemarle's short winning streak stopped when the Patriots, in their first district game away from home, were defeated by the Fighting Blue's of Parry McCluer High School. However, they retaliated and won the next encounter with this school. Although Albemarle lost both games against Waynesboro,

GIRLS' VARSITY SOFTBALL
Never having had a losing season, the girls' softball team can look forward to the coming season. They have a nine game schedule which should provide keen competition.

BASEBALL FANS EXPECT SECOND STRAIGHT VALLEY DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP
Practice for the 1964 spring sports was hampered by days of bitter cold and rain, rain, rain . Nevertheless, Coach Costello's Varsity Baseball team in their first outing found the range with solid hits and good pitching to win 7-5.
Scenes from season-opening victory over Nelson.

Managers Gregory Lee and David Parson and Coach Laird Rush .
JUNIOR VARSITY BASEBALL
Working even harder to produce a ball player ready to play with a district champion varsity team, Coach Rush has increased the schedule to eight games. Some of last year's junior varsity players started in the varsity opener against Nelson.
