The longest losing streak was a length 22 games by Walla Walla (6/8-7/5). Beverly lost 20 in a
row from 4/20-5/13. Summer went 3-40 from 8/20 until the end of the season!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mickey Mantle was voted Player of the Year for a record 6th time in the past 9 years and for an
unprecedented 3rd consecutive season! Mantle led the TML in HR (65), RBI (188), Runs (180),
EXBH (90), SLG (.691), Walks (115) and RC (189).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ted Williams is the new TML Career Leader in AVG (.365), SLG (.702), OBP (.488) and RC/27 (13.3).
Teammate Mickey Mantle is now #2 in all four categories (AVG .329, SLG .636, OBP .451, RC/27 11.2).
Hank Aaron remains in 2nd place in HRs, 54 HRs behind Career HR leader Barry Bonds (743 HR)! Aaron
also remains the Career RBI leader with 2344 and is still in 2nd place in Career EXBH (1332), but is
the new leader in TB (6264), passing Bonds. Frank Robinson and Aaron remain 1-2 in GW-RBI, 302 and
300, respectively. Sandy Koufax slipped to #2 in Career ERA (2.77) behind Mariano Rivera (2.68).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11/5/1956, JM56-AV56, Briggs Stadium
The Jupiter Marcos completed their quest of winning the TML Retro Championship, having dedicated
this season to their late GM/Manager Marc Kramer. After surviving a grueling 7-game series with
rival North Adams, the Marcos had to overcome a 2-0 deficit in the TML World Series against Hall of
Fame laden, two-time defending TML Champs Albany Avalanche to win the title in 6 games! MVP Minnie
Minoso hit .346, with 9 runs and 8 RBI in the post season. For the Jupiter franchise, it was only
their 2nd TML Championship, but the most memorable. For Pat Barrys Albany squad, they had advanced
to their 3rd straight TML World Series, after getting past a tough Brooklyn team in 5 games. What
hurt Albany was Jupiters ability to pitch around Player of the Year Mickey Mantle (10 walks),
while holding Ted Williams to a .136 AVG and Duke Snider to a .056 AVG. Wait till next year!

ALBANY Avalanche Manager: Pat Barry (Elizabeth) Age: 60 Occupation: Retired
The Season Story
After winning championships for two straight seasons, Albany fell to Jupiter in the World Series. I hope Marc
is smiling somewhere. The Albany outfield of Mantle, William and Snider carried the squad with total homers
of 136, run 398, ribbies 427, and runs created of 455. Fox and McMillian were strong up the middle and
Gernert and Skowrun, sharing first base, socked 36 homers between them. Bob Rush 23-3 2.33 anchored the
staff. Mizell was solid at 17-6, but ultimately the team could have used another solid starter. The old Larry
Jackson was missed. Next year the team is again poised to make a playoff run. Again, the pitching will go as
far as the offense will take it.

ARKANSAS Travelers Manager: Bill Willie Jelks (Lynda) Age: 74 Occupation: Retired USAF Flyboy
The Season Story
A very disappointing year for the Travs. Going into the season with very high expectations, the picture looked
rosy through one third of the season but a pitching staff collapse spelled doom after that. Stan the Man and
Big Klu had great years as expected and most other offensive players did their job. This same crew returns in
1955 but expectations of contention are much cooler than before.

BEVERLY Hillbillies Manager: Mike Dickinson (Andrea) Age: 47 Occupation: Meteorologist/Philanthropist
The Season Story
A disastrous first two-thirds of the season put the Hillbillies in a deep hole they couldn't recover from. Overall
the offense and pitching were mediocre (dare I say... adequate) but the fielding was atrocious. The middle
infield was a black hole with 2b committing 38 errors and ss committing 32. Third base was worse with an ugly
42 errors. Left fielders put up 20 errors and the great Willie Mays had 15 errors in CF. Only the Hillbilly 1st
basemen finished the year without a miscue. Bob Nieman paced the offense in limited at bats. Willie Mays led
the team in home runs but was otherwise disappointing. Joe Nuxhall led the team with 13 wins. There are pieces
in place to have a respectable team. The only question is when (if?) it all comes together.

BLOOMINGTON Burning Bunyans Manager: Bob Weisman (Janet) Age: 57 Occupation: Meteorology Professor
The Season Story
Another fun and exciting season of Bunyans baseball. The burning was again from the offense as Eddie
Mathews had a stellar year (319 total bases), ably supported by Jim Gilliam, Hector Lopez, and Ed Bailey in a
huge part-time role (BY catchers hit 39 HRs on the season). This accounted for some of the pitchers leading in
run support (Poholsky 15-8, but 4.95 era). Early Wynn (21-8, 3.28 era) lost a shot at the Pitcher of the Year in
an ill-fated relief appearance (1/3 inning, 7 runs against SF). However, the offense was bundled more tightly
than usual, so there were times when the offense lapsed. However, the Bunyans were quite sore by the number
of batted balls kicked. 164 errors led to 108 unearned runs, tied with Walla Walla for second worst, just behind
Beverly. So, Bloomington gets to be the best 4th place team in TML history(??). The entertainment value will
continue as long as Mathews rolls on, but how long will the pleasant smiles stay glued on the faces of Lake

BROOKLYN Browns Manager: Jim Pertierra (Janet) Age: 67 Occupation: Platform Manager - Cushman and Wakefield
The Season Story
Again the second best offense in the Division and some of the worst pitching this side of Summer, Brooklyn
finished surprisingly in second place, but not surprisingly below .500 and survived a season dog fight with old
foes, Coachella for the right to get hammered by Albany in the Conference championships. But, surprisingly,
the Browns held their own going down in 5 hard fought 9th inning (or longer) games to the Mighty Avalanche.
The offense was mighty and led, as it has been for the past 19 seasons by the great, overlooked, Frank Robinson,
who announced his retirement early in the season as he felt that he was too young to catch up with the major
league fastball any longer. The best trade I ever made was moving up one spot (needlessly) in the draft to get
Frank and he never was going anywhere other than to the Hall of Fame. Here's to you Mr. Robinson, Brooklyn
loves you more than you will know. We will never be the same.

CHETICAMP Micmacs Manager: Eric Rogers Age: 59 Occupation: Meteorologist
The Season Story
The '56 retro Micmacs had a fine season, the league's 4th best record, a unspectacular but decent rotation led by
Tom Brewer (19-9), one the leagues leading closers with Turk Lown (30 SV), and a solid offense, 3rd in batting
average and 2nd in on-base percentage, led by Ashburn, Runnels, and Berra. Unfortunately Cheticamp had the
misfortune of being in the powerhouse Atmospheric Division, and did not quite have the talent to keep pace
with North Adams and Jupiter. The 1954 squad looks to be good enough to contend again. Will it be good
enough? We'll see. Name AVG SPC OBP G AB R H RBI 2B 3B HR TB BB IW K SH SF SB CS HBP GDP RC RC27

COACHELLA VALLEY Earthquakes Manager: Mike Landin (Teri) Age: 64 Occupation: Retired/Part-time Professor/Softball Player
The Season Story
For the fifth straight season, the Quakes watched Conference rival Albany run away and hide. However, this
time, even with a sub-.500 record, the Quakes were in a Wild Card battle with Brooklyn that lasted until the
final games of Period 3. It is truly amazing how much good pitching can carry a team, as the Quakes were near
the bottom in batting. Al Kaline was a lone standout, batting .327, with 115 RC. Luis Aparicio provided a
spark in the lineup, but there was not much more. Warren Spahn (19-13) just missed a 20-win season and to
show you how bad the offense was, Whitey Ford (13-14) had a losing record, despite a terrific 2.82 ERA.
Warren Hacker (14-20) was a workhorse, starting 40 times and racking up a 20-loss season. The Quakes
roster takes yet another major hit for 1955. A few roster moves will be made as the rebuilding process begins in
earnest.

DULUTH Thundercats Manager: Kevin Tyle (Bryan) Age: 53 Occupation: Computer Administrator/Meteorologist
The Season Story
Another long and painful season, although Duluth at least played competitively at home. Probably the brightest
spot was Billy Martin's fine fielding at second base; word is that a 26-year old named George Steinbrenner was
impressed. Mickey Vernon led the offense with a .916 OPS, while George Kell paced the squad with 31 HR's.
The pitching was pretty weak, although Dick Sisler and Joe Black did surprisingly well as starter and reliever,
respectively. Some glimmers of hope are there, but likely too few and far between to produce winning seasons
for a while more.
