Bloomfield Baptist Church Family, “But he lingered.” (Genesis 19:16) Genesis 19:1-29 gives us a picture of a reluctant Lot, who does not want to leave Sodom behind. After receiving a warning from God’s messengers to flee Sodom’s coming destruction, Lot lingers. As Christians, God’s word gives us clear, concise and consistent instruction concerning how we are to deal with sin in our life.

“So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels.” (2 Timothy 2:22-23)

“Flee from sexual immorality.” (1 Corinthians 6:18)

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. But as for you, O man of God, flee these things.” (1 Timothy 6:10-11)

God’s word calls us to flee. That means we are to turn away from sin and go the other way. To flee is to repent. This is the instruction we are given and we are called to obey God’s instruction. Do not allow sin to linger in your life and do not allow yourself to linger around sin. Flee. Repent. Walk by faith…..and encourage others to do the same.
