Psalm 143:10 NIV

God’s will, God’s way. Sometimes it’s the second part of that that’s the biggest problem. Especially when time is ticking by. God had promised Abraham: ‘Your children will outnumber the stars and the sands.’ But there he was, getting older in the usual way - day by day. His wife had passed childbearing age a couple of decades previously. It seems, as Abraham thought of God’s promise, he wondered whether it actually mention his wife by name. Maybe it was: ‘Your children will outnumber the stars,’ not ‘Her children...’?

As a result of this rationalisation, Abraham tried to force God’s hand and, in doing so, he became the father of Ishmael. But Ishmael wasn’t the child of promise that God had in mind. Abraham’s mistake didn’t cost him his promise because he eventually became the father of Isaac by his wife. However it did cost intense pain all round - pain that has lasted thousands of years and continues to the present day in the conflict between the Jews and the Arabs. There’s a lesson here: taking responsibility for your actions doesn’t guarantee a future free of ugly consequences. Second lesson: if God makes a promise, there is no mistake too big to stop it being fulfilled.

So if God has given you a promise, specific to your life, count it as a sealed deal. It may take a long time - it may seem like it will never come - but learn from Abraham’s mistake and don’t take any shortcuts to ‘help’ God fulfil His promises.

We appreciate your promptness with this as we can now proceed with finalising our arrangements for transport, camping and catering. For parents who have indicated they would like to attend as a parent helper, we ask for your patience as we process the forms so we have a clearer indication of how many helpers we require for this camp. We will be in touch in due course regarding

this and the associated cost for you. Early next term we will share the all important ‘What to pack’ list to ensure our Pathfinders are well prepared for this camp. They have also come to realise there are many children around the world who are not so fortunate. So Year 3 became involved and raised funds for the “Build A Bed” project run by Sweet Sleep, a faith-based organisation which exists to share God’s love by providing beds to the world’s orphaned and abandoned children. This money will go to help children who usually sleep in old, broken and soiled beds or have no beds at all.Year 3 raised an unbelievable $1,300 in just 2 weeks. We thank all of you who donated or helped us raise this money. We are very excited to be able to help and pray that God will bless and multiply this money.Doesn’t every child deserve and need a ‘sweet sleep?’PRiMARY SPoRtCiS AthleticsCongratulations to all our CIS Athletes who competed at the CIS Athletics Championships last week. The English department will undergo some minor changes in order to accommodate the change in staffing that is being determined. These changes will ensure that students will transition into term 4 with minimal impact or disruption.Mrs Tamara Slade - ScienceMrs Slade is continuing on at CCAS in term 4 but with a reduced teaching load. Year 12 Muck Up day - friday September 20It is that time of the year when Year 12 celebrate their last day at school. CCAS has endorsed this muck up day as it providers a controlled environment in which the students can have a bit of fun on their last official day at school. There will be some disruption to the school program at the beginning of the day but students will be in classes part way into period 1. Activities most often involve water, so please take note of the following suggestions:Students not wishing to be involved will be able to stay out of the quad area to avoid getting wet.An area will be set aside for students to keep their bags so that they and their contents do not get wet.Students who get involved will need to bring a change of clothes. It is suggested that students who do wish to be involved may come to school in their PE uniform and then change into their uniform after the activities.Only Year 12 students are permitted to bring “equipment/supplies” for the muck up day.The activities will be closely monitored by staff.Year 12 Final Assembly. This will occur in period 3 and give opportunity for Year 12 to say a final good bye to the student body and staff in a more relaxed and fun way.Students online accounts now available for 2013 Year 10-12 studentsOn Monday, 9 September 2013, the Board is sending an email to all Year 10 students inviting them to activate their Students Online account. Page 5: 19 September 2013

in the senior, intermediate and junior divisions. All teams played exceptionally well on their days and were highly competitive, representing our school with pride. In the senior competition both the boys and girls teams challenged some highly skilled teams. The girls team were unlucky not to make the semi-finals, however should be very pleased with their team effort. The boys showed strength in making a comeback when needed. The boys displayed outstanding skill and commitment to each other. The boys unfortunately went down in the semi-finals, but again should be happy with their playing efforts. The intermediate teams had a tough day, with many of the opposition being representative players. Both teams gave it their best and learnt a lot about oztag strategies throughout the day.The junior boys team developed well throughout the day and they are to be commended on the spirit in which they played the game. With some challenging games the boys never gave up, and won 2 out of the 3 games. The junior girl’s made it through to the semi-final’s and won 3 games convincingly out of the 4. The girl’s success was due to the strength in their structure both in attack and defence. They showed their strong commitment in implementing the specific plays learnt during training. Watching these girls throughout the day reaffirmed how amazingly special these girls are. Thanks for all your effort girls with training and game commitment.Congratulations!CCAS is very proud to have two students who have recently been selected to represent Australia in the U17 Basketball teams. Both in Yr 10, Jasmine Forcadilla and Jayden Hodgson will compete against New Zealand in late September as part of the Oceania series. If they are successful in that tournament, they both face selection to compete at the 2014 World Championships in Prague (Jasmine) and Dubai (Jayden). A very exciting time for these two athletes, who we wish plenty of success and good luck to later this month. You may have seen the footage on NBN news as well as they both gave their first tv interviews and despite nerves, were both sensational. CCAS is very proud!

HRiS Netball GalaWell done to our 3 netball teams who were finally able to compete in this postponed event in Newcastle recently. All 3 teams ended the day in 5th place and the girls were simply a pleasure to spend time with during the day. They played competitively all day with very close score-lines, displayed fantastic sportsmanship and team work and the staff present were so very proud of their achievements and effort.AiCES Athletics ChampsWell done to the following students who participated at AICES Athletics in Homebush recently. Daniel Beilharz (Yr 7), Toby Bowditch (Yr 8), Bess Chippendale (Yr 7), Liam Forcadilla (Yr 12), Ethan Hodgson (Yr 9), Taina Naividi (Yr 7), Alex Pallot (Yr 11), Josh Pallot (Yr 10), Lydia Pulley (Yr 7), Rachel Small (Yr 10) & Ben White (Yr 12). There were some amazing performances on the day, (which was a sensational, sunny day) including – Bess Chippendale achieving first place in the 800m & 400m, both in AICES record times! Ben White winning the 18 Yrs Boys Discus in his final AICES Athletics Carnival. Other terrific results were Daniel B – 3rd in high jump; Toby B – 2nd in shot put; Liam F – 2nd in 800m; Lydia P – 2nd in javelin; Rachel S – 3rd in javelin.CiS Athletics ChampionshipsGood-luck to the students who have qualified to represent AICES on Wednesday, 18 September in Homebush at the NSW CIS Athletics – Daniel Beilharz (high jump), Toby Bowditch (shot put), Bess Chippendale (800m & 400m), Lydia Pulley (javelin), Rachel Small (javelin) & Ben White (discus).NSW HS State Girls Basketball ChampionshipsLast week, our two girls basketball teams (U17 & U15) both travelled to Bankstown to compete against other NSW/ACT high schools. Our U17 girls had 4 games in one day and were dominant in their games against Riverside HS & Erindale College. Lake Ginninderra from ACT was our toughest competition and our team lost the pool game. We faced them again in the Final and were ahead at half time, however we had some foul trouble in the 2nd half and ended the game as runners up for the 2nd year in a row. A truly great effort considering the size and skill levels of schools we competed

Page 6: 19 September 2013

against. The U15 girls played their first two games against Riverside HS & Trinity College and were comfortable winners on the first day of competition. On Friday, our first match against George’s River HS was very tough, (with the winner going straight into the final) and we began the game slowly giving away a 10 point start! The girls worked hard and clawed it back to being level at half-time. The score see-sawed during the second half and with only 12 seconds remaining CCAS went up to 2 points!

This lead to a hectic final few seconds, but our girls remained strong to win and go into the final against Loreto Kirribilli. The final was also a very close game and our team matched their opposition right up until a few minutes in the final half, going down to them but never really giving up. Another runners up medal (2nd in two years as well!) and very proud of their achievement.
