The Uinta Senior Center will install a new floor in its kitchen this fall, thanks to a $10,000 donation from Union Pacific Railroad.

“We try to be a good neighbor in the area we work with,” said Sarah Thompson Cassidy, the railroad’s director of public affairs.

Cassidy presented the check Friday, August 16 at the center. The senior center, along with the center in Bridger Valley, serves 725 people each day, Sarah

Blakeman, the center’s director, said.

Besides providing meals and a place for seniors to socialize by way of Bunko, pool and many other games, the Uinta Senior Center also delivers hundreds of meals per week to seniors at home.

Meeting called to order by President Don Carpenter at 12:45 p.m. on July 31, 2013.

MEMBERS PRESENTSite Director Kris StringerPresident Don CarpenterGloria RasmussenOdena BluemelJanice ClaytonLawayne HurdsmanStan Walker

MEMBERS ABSENTActivities Director Lisa WoodySecretary Sharon Walker,Karen AbelCarlene Walker

Minutes were dispensed with:

The August calendar was updated and the September calendar was rough drafted for the month.

The Fall Party was discussed. The date was set for October 12, 2013, and it will be a dinner and dance.

Lawayne said there were some bands who would play for free, it was discussed to open it to the public to those 50 years and older in hopes it would bring some interest in attending.

Suggested menu for the Fall Party featured steak or prime rib, baked potato, veggie and dessert.

The price would be $8 for seniors, and $16 for non-seniors.

It was suggested to RSVP so the cooks would know how much to prepare.

Final decisions would be made at next meeting.

Next Meeting will be August 30, 2013, at 1 p.m.

Since there was no more business Stan Walker moved the meeting be adjourned.

Don Carpenter seconded the motion.

Respectfully Submitted bySharon Walker

OUR COMMUNITYEvanston Activity Committee

Pickleville Playhouse outing was moved to the September 7. The August 31 date had to be cancelled because the center will be closed for Labor Day. Arrangements were made for those wanting to go as planned.

Sarah talked about changes to the Saturday and Sunday lunch menus. We want to keep the center open for lunch on those days because it helps when we apply for grants to show we operate seven days a week. Not only that, but a lot of people like stopping by for lunch, if they are out running errands.

The community garden was not planted because no one signed up to help. Maybe next year.

The Brew Fest fundraiser went pretty well. We need more volunteers. The bottled water made $80 and the shuttle service $120. This goes back into our activity fund. Hope to plan in advance next year.

Hale Center Theater on Sept. 21. Only 10 season tickets available, so check with Barb if you want to go.

Plans for a float in the Labor Day parade, September 2, were discussed.

The valley needs to get us a date for their Chicken Fry.

Installing a new kitchen floor, paid for by Union Pacific, will cause a little disruption.

We might have to cook and serve out of the snack bar. Good luck to the kitchen staff.

We have received a transportation grant to help with the buses and a United Way (first time) grant to help with meals.

Plans for an AARP representative to come in and talk about the Affordable Care Act and what it means to seniors.

Checking for interest in a mystery dinner. You order by number and don’t know what you are getting. Sometimes you might get a salad, but haven’t ordered a fork. Still looking into how it would work.

Sarah is checking into getting the movies started again, but would like to show a documentary (the wars, oil drilling, the coal industry, etc.) and show it just before dinner on a Monday night. Let her know your feelings about this.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERSBarb is putting out sign-up sheets for the different events, but no one is signing up. Please give her some ideas on what you would like to see and how you can help.

At the next meeting we will need to complete the plans for the Octoberfest dinner.

In attendance: Barb Bauer, Mary Simm, Casey Davis, Susanne McEwen, Charlene Stam, Sarah Blakeman, Kris Stringer.

NEWScontinued from page 1that delivering donations to community organizations ranks high in her list of duties.

“A great part of my job is getting to partner with the communities that we serve,” she said.

“We love to partner with organizations like this. And to support them in some small way is truly an honor.”

The floor will be installed in October or November, Terech said, during which time the thousands of meals per week will have to be handled in the old, small, “one-butt” kitchen across from the dining area.

Terech said the donation is doing more than helping the senior center, it’s supporting Evanston’s economy.

Donna Ludvigson, head cook at the Evanston center, serves scores of seniors daily.
