Pleasant most the day. Windy & cooler. Chored about. Taped my shoes. Sawed up a little wood.Washed. Washed shirt, stockings, & c.

Pleasant but windy & cool. At home all day & chored about house & c & c. Sent Spencers watch toBoston ( for Elmer to repair) by A.O. Miller.

Mon. April 11, 1892Pleasant but very windy & cool. Chored about home & c & c. Geo. Metcalf came to night.

Pleasant but cold & windy. See to R.R. & office. Willie went to Providence. Sorted apples & carried11 Bus. to Ride Newell, 1 to A. Bushee, 2 to Finley & 1 Bus. to Hawkins & 1 Bus. potatoes to Cotter.Geo. Metcalf came again to night.

Pleasant most the day & a little warmer. Carried a load of 1130 lbs. hay to Dean & Sherman & 1/2 Bus. potatoes to H. Talbot & 1 Bus. apples to Alvin Fisk. Called & see Dr. Nolan.

Cloudy most the day & cool. Carted a load of 895 lbs. hay to M. M. Daniels & a load of 935 lbs. to Dr. Nolan.

Fire (Began to write in this book) Sat. April 16, 1892

Cloudy part & pleasant some of the day. Cool. Chored about in the A.M. Went to Woonsocket in P.M.Carried some soap greese & got soap & lost some of it. Carried some for Abbie. Went to the PeoplesBank for Elmer. Got 2 Bus. meal & 2 Bus. oats. 6 lbs. crackers, & c & c. The old school house (orthe Hopkins house) burned down between 5 & 6 oclock this P.M . I stoped to the fire when I camehome from Woonsocket & a timber came over my foot & lamed my left foot.

Pleasant & a little warmer. About home all day. E. Samuels called up here a while. Picked & cleaneda hen & put on to make soup of the cars cuss over. Stewed some beans for my supper & c. & c.

Mon. April 18, 1982

Pleasant. Was frose some this morn. Chored about. Went & got a load of wood for F. Landry over A. Newells lot of dry pine. This P.M. carted a load of 1090 lbs. hay to M.M. Daniels. Geo. Metcalf camethis morn & back here with team to night.

Tues. April 19, 1892

Pleasant & cool. Chored about. Mr. & Mrs. Burgess called to see what she could find out about theHopkins place & c & c. Geo. Metcalf & team here to night.

Wed. April 20, 1982

Pleasant & warm but tub was frose over as thick as window glass this morn. Chored about. Carried outlot rotten apples. Carried Mrs. Curran 1 Bus. Russetts. Geo. Metcalf came back to night.


Pleasant part the day & cloudy part. Began to rain between 3 & 4 P.M. Warmer. Chored about. Sorted& put up apples. Trimmed 2 bus. turnips. Got in some wood. F Landrys man sawed 2 hs. on my old

ties. Mr. Leer & D. Carson came up to see my hay. I sold Leer my best for $20.00 per ton & the other for $8.00 to be delivered . Geo. Metcalf went home this morn. Left his horse here.

Fri. April 22, 1892

Cloudy most the day & warm. Began to rain before 3 P.M. & rained but little. Is raining some this eve.F. Landry pitched over a load of hay for me. 1/3 of an hour. 1095 lbs. I carried to M. Lee at Franklin.F. Landrys man sawed old ties 2 hs. I helped Frank split 1/2 hour. Trimed some turnips & c & c.Carried on the load of hay 1 Bus. Apples to A. Bushee & 1 Bus. to Mr. Sargeant. Called & engagedsome horse manure of Mrs. Cotter.

Pleasant & warm. Chored about home. Made a soup, fixed wall & c. Side pasture & c & c. Geo.Metcalf started for Ashland to day. He left me some paper & Envelopes.

Very pleasant. Elmer came home in the night or about 1:30 A.M. Ella came with him & I went back toAshland with him to night. He came with Johns horse &Alvahs buggy. I staid in store with him & took

breakfast at Millers. Called up to Alvahs & at mill & at Johns & came home on the cars from Ashlandat 8 A.M. the 25th.

Mon. April 25, 1892

Pleasant but cold. Ice quite thick & ground frose. Took breakfast with Elmer. Met Alvah on street &got in & rode with him. Went home with him & stoped a few minutes & at mill & called at Johns & atstore. Isa carried me down. I came home on the 8 A.M. train from Ashland. Trimed a few turnips,sorted a few apples & c & c. Mr. Allan had his goods loaded in car & left his horse for me to pasture &stored buggy in my barn.


Pleasant. Very cold morn. Ice. Fixed fence around pasture & turned D.B. Allans horse & my cow out.His horse got out. Sorted some apples, carried 1 Bus. potatoes to J. Cotter, 3 Bus. turnips to Coda &McKenna, 1 Bus. to D. Corsan, 1 Bus. apples to A. Bushie, 1/4 Bus. N. McGorory. Called at TownFarm & see Daniel Greene & Mc Pherson.

Pleasant. Cold morn. Ice in tub. Chored about, fixed fence a little. Loaded a load of 1235 lbs. hay &carried to Mr. Leer. F. Landry helped me load 2/3 of an hour. I went to Woolfords to sell Emmas horse& got an offer of 10.00 for it. Alvah is here to night. Came over with Emma. A man found dead up byJohn Chilson place.

Very pleasant & cool. See to trains & c in A.M. for Willie. He went to Franklin,. Sorted & carried 31/2 Bus. Apples to Woonsocket For 3.50 got 1 Bag furtelisor, called & see Elias Ware & wife.

Sun. May 1, 1892IceCloudy most the day & cool. Began to rain a little before night. I went to Ashland with Emma to take a

buggy, she borrowed, home to the stable. Elmer had gone to Boston. Took dinner with John & Sarah.Went up to Alvahs a while. Started back about 3 P.M. Called at C.A. Stockbridges & see John. He isquite sick -- Rhumatics.

Stormy part the day. Worked about house some. Isa made me 3 pies. Worked around hen housesome. A dog killed 2 roosters this morn. I picked & fixed one & gave one to Mrs. Curran.

Wed. May 4, 1892

Cloudy part & pleasant part. Very Warm. Chored about. Worked fixing hen yard fence, loaded 1210lbs hay & carried to M.M. Daniels.

Thurs. May 5 1892

Pleasant most of the day & warm. Chored about, made a chicken soup & c. Worked on hen yard fence.Took down part the wire fence back of horse barn. Trobridge up to buy lumber.

Fri. May 6, 1892

Cloudy most the day & warm. Began to storm a little about 5 P.M. Aaron Canney plowed for me inA.M. or a little over 5 hs., the piece by horse barn & the other side of R.R., top the hill by R.R., & racemeadow. I trimed the apple trees some & cleared up the vines & c.

Very pleasant & cool. Chored about. Harrowed piece by horse barn, fixed cow yard gate & c & c.Mahoney had horse to draw manure for Willie, 2 hs.

Pleasant part & cloudy part the day. Cool morn. Chored about. Elmer came home & Ella with him.With Johns horse & carriage, they went back to night. Mrs. Lasure had the wheel brake down &throwed her out & hurt her arm & shoulder to night.

Mon. May 9, 1892

Very pleasant & warm. Carried Nettie, Emma & John to Franklin. Bt home 800 lbs Furtelisor & 1 lbmeal. Chored about house some. Helped D. Mahoney furrow for Willie 1 hour & he helped me 1/2hour. I sawed a little wood for J. Curran. The Assessor was here this P.M. I called & see Ruggles &was sworn as weigher & c & c.

Tues. May 10, 1892

Very pleasant & warm most the day. Chored about. Carted & laid out a load manure on the piece byhorse barn. Planted a few peas to night. The first I have planted this season.

Cloudy & began to storm before 10 A.M. Chored about. Cleaned up some in horse barn up stairs.Moved sleigh chest & c from under old barn in to barn & David Mahoney throwed over manure under old barn after 9 45 A.M.

Thurs. May 12, 1892

Cloudy & warm with but little rain till most 6 P.M. than began to rain - quite hard. D. Mahoney throwedover manure under old barn in A.M. & this P.M. helped me get stove down stairs into the spare room &we got a load of hay from old barn to horse barn & he put several loads manure on further side of orchard by house & spread it & we plowed it. There is 4 tramps in old barn to stay to night.

Fri. May 13, 1892

Cloudy all day. D. Mahoney worked for me. Dug up the wall. Planted 1 Bus. Queen potatoes, some beans, cucumbers, squash, radish. Set out the onions & c. We put on 5 load manure. I cut theasparagus Isabel washed for me.

Sat. May 14, 1892

Pleasant & warm. D. Mahoney for Willie 1 hs, helped me load 1185 lbs. hay. I carried to Mr. Leer. Igot 2 bags furtilisor & 5 of grain & 2 for M.M.D. J. Tower sent & I put in pasture 1 cow & 1 Heifor. Ifixed the fence some on top the hill. Carried 1/2 Bus. potatoes to H_?__ Talbot & 4 bunchesasparagrass to Mrs. W. Clark.Jos Sullivan picked stones beyond the swale.

Stormy & warm. At home all day. Baked beans, brown bread, _?_ & ginger bread & c. Emma camehome from Ashland. F. Landry at home to day.

Mon. May 16, 1892

Pleasant most the day but had a shower between 11 & 12. Aaron Canney plowed the piece back old shopdown as far as wincopy tree 1/2 day. Jos Sulivan worked for me. He scraved up the cow-yard in A.M.& in P.M., planted some potatoes 1/2 bus. (or 3 lbs.) & some beans & we dug up hedland & c back of shop. I went to J. Cotters & got 3 & part of 1/2 Bbls of hen manure to night.

Very pleasant & warm. A Greenwood & another man came & put plastering on the store & the roomover it & c & c. I fixed hen yard house, put hens in to night. Had Aaron Canney harrow the piece back of

old shop 2 hrs. Towers Teams carted 4 1/2 load horse load of plank from here to day. Bought 60tomatoe plants.

Pleasant A.M. Cloudy & cool P.M. Rain this eve. I went & got A. Greenwood & another mason & aload of morter at Franklin. Went early & had a big load. They plastered in the store & a piece inkitchen here down stairs. Jos Sullivan worked for me. Planted a few potatoes & we sorted apples. Theyrot very bad. Went after & caught Nellie Hewett & M. Foster. They & others brung a basket toWillie. Wadsworth this eve.

Stormy part the day. Cleared off before night but is cloudy again at 9:30 this eve. Chored about,sprouted & put up 1 Bus. potatoes & carried to J. Collins & 1 bus apples to A. Bushee & 1 bus. to McGrory & 1/2 to ____.

Tues. May 24, 1892

Pleasant most the day but had a light shower. Jos Sulivan worked for me in A.M. Beetled manure front

of old barn. In P.M. I went to Woonsocket & East Blackstone got hay-seed meal, furtilisor & c & c,carried 3/4 bus. apples & sold. J. Tower sent 2 more cows, put 1 in my pasture & one in Willies & putheifor from my pasture to Willies but it would not stay.

Pleasant most the day but very windy. Warmer. Jos Sullivan worked for me. Beetled manure back horse barn. We furrowed some back of old shop & planted 1 1/2 bus. or more potatoes. 1/2 bus largeones. Planted 2 rows on Stockbridge & 2 on Chiltodon & 2 on Stack & 2 on Chiltodon.

Stormy till about 8 A.M. Cleared off & clouded up & cloudy & warm part & pleasant part the day.Helped see to R.R. & mail. Willie gone to Ashland with Emma. D. Mahoney & Jos Sulivan plantedMrs. Currans potatoes. I helped part the time. Furrowed with my horse, planted between 2 & 3 Bus.

We planted the rest the potatoes back of old shop & some corn I got of Mr. Hadley.Carted out 3 load manure to plant the corn on . Planted 1 pk. Decota seeds, a few early & a fewseedlings. Fixed up a shelf for Mrs. Curran.

Pleasant, windy. Jos. Sullivan worked for me. Furrowed over again the piece for corn back of old shop& manured out & planted the remainder of it in A.M. He helped me load a load of 1220 lbs. hay thisP.M. that I carried to Mr. Leer & after 3 oclock, he worked for Willie. I went up & see the plowing onHermans in A.M. a few minutes.

Cloudy most the day & some showers & a little sun shine. Jos Sullivan worked for me. Carted outmanure, harrowed & furrowed out some by horse barn. Set out 30 or more tomato plants.

Tues. May 31, 1892

Pleasant & very warm. Jos Sullivan worked. Cut up a little brush, carted out 2 load manure & spreadthe manure by horse barn & harrowed it. We planted some sweet corn, beans, mellons, beets & c.Loaded the last of the hay to carry to Franklin to morrow.

Wed. June 1, 1892

Very warm & pleasant. See to R.R. & P.O. Willie & the rest gone to Providence. Carted a load of 1355 lbs. hay to Mr. Leer. Got 1 Bag corn, 1 Bus. barley for Willie & c & c. * I expect Nettie wasmarried this A.M. to John Cluley.

I left off my draws to day.

*Nettie (Abbie Jeanette Wadsworth), Josephs oldest daughter, was married to John Clewley today. Ethel (Clewley) Morse, Netties great granddaughter, still resides in Franklin as of this writing. See photos on next page.

*Town records show Mr. Partridge Penniman, 84, died on May 30 th of old age.

Stormy part the day & warm pleasant part of P.M. Planted a few pole beans, mellons, cucumbers & c &c. To night, hived a swarm of bees for Willie. One stung me over the eye. It was most dark before theyfound them.

Pleasant most the day but had light showers. Chored about. Throwed over part the stuff back & under the privey. Carried Ad Darling & Nancy home to night.

Tues. June 7, 1892

Pleasant & warm. Chored about. Finished throwing over the stuff under the privey, cut the asparagrass.Cleared up some in horse barn. Horse loos last night or this morn. This morn milked J. Towers cowthat is here pasturing.

Wed. June 8, 1892

Pleasant most the day but cloudy or stormy part. Chored about. Sowed oats & grass seed on the piecenext to J. Canneys & the road. Harrowed & bushed it in. It took a long time to catch Mr. Allens horseto night. She kept going back & forth to the orchard & about & wouldnt let me catch her for most anhour.

Showery & warm & is raining this eve. Sowed some cabbage seed, leveled off around the piece where I

sowed down & c & c. Took care of Mrs. Currans baby while she went to Franklin & back in cars.

Fri. June 10, 1892

Pleasant, cool & windy. Chored about in morn. Milked J. Towers cow in morn, let him know she had acalf & he sent & got them to night. Chs Miller & Elmer came this morn on 9 23 train. Talked houseaffairs over in AM & I got dinner for us & this PM, I got Canneys horse & we went as far as Abner Cooks & to H. Pecks & M.M. Daniels. A. Newells, D.B. Clarks, G.C. Friskes & Hubbards & about.Left Chs Miller at Depot & Elmer went & bought a soda fountain.

Very pleasant & warm. Chored about. Fixed for & put a seat on the roll & have rolled the piece byhouse that I sowed down this AM. Went to Rakeville & see to Taft. Called & see Alfred Darling. Cutthe asparagrass to night. Elmer went this morn.

Very warm & pleasant. Alvah & Elmer took breakfast with me. E got it, I cut the asparagrass & hecooked it & about 7, they start for home. I went to Franklin & helped them load the soda fountain & c.See G C Fisher, S Sheppard & others. A Miller worked for me 3 1/2 hs. We cut up & hoed some back of old shop.

Tues. June 14, 1892

Very warm & pleasant but had a thundershower this eve. A Miller worked for me 7 3/4 hs. Finishedhoeing the corn back of old shop & some of the potatoes. A Miller was sick, 2 or 3 hs. I had a telegramto night to come to Dedham on the house case at 9 A.M. tomorrow. I went & see L. R Whitiker &others to night.

Wed. June 15, 1892

Very pleasant & cooler. Done the chores & got ready & started for Franklin with horse about 6 1/4A.M. Left the horse at Uncle Richardsons & took cars for Dedham. Went to court about the house,where the store & c is . I was on the witness stand & there was no one else call on the case & it wasdecided in my favor. Went into Boston & out on the 3 30 train. Got horse shad. See Leer but got nomoney of him. C Scott came in to court. Elmer there & Alvah M. & Melinda Frost & lot other.

Thurs. June 16, 1892

Very pleasant most the day but clouded up before night. Arthur Miller worked for me 8 1/2 hs-- hoed thegarden & some back of old shop. Mrs. Mahoney washed for me to day. Cut the asparagrass.

Fri. June 17, 1892

Very warm & pleasant till in P.M. a very heavy thunder shower came up about 5 oclock. Rained veryhard & heavy thunder & lightening. Herman & I went & measured & divided for the fence by the

woods, top the hill & Willie has been having his half put up this P.M. Sarah was up here a while thisnoon talking about the house affairs & c & c. Cut the asparagrass.

Stormed in the morn & cloudy most the day. Chored about - look after box for Arthurs wagon, clearedup barn some. Went to Woonsocket in P.M. got some fence wire, tobacco, hungarian, & c & c.

Pleasant & warm. F. Landry worked for me. He cut some wood & c & helped me build fence on the hillnext to the woods. We took away the old fence & set posts & put 2 & part of another string of wire on tomy half of the fence.

Very warm & pleasant in A.M. & had a very heavy thunder shower about 2:30 this P.M. Struck N. Haweshouse & the elm in Hermons door yard & one by Mr. Hunts. L. Landry worked for me, cut a little wood& we finished the wire fence on the hill & I mowed the piece there with the horse. He picked a few

stones & pulled some white weed. We got some the rotten apples & c out the cellar. Set out 1 doz.tomato plants.

Pleasant & warm . F. Landry worked for me clearing out the cellar & washing up Bbls & boxes mostthe day. I mowed some by horse barn, raked & got in the hay on top the hill but little of it for me.

bean poles where Albert Newell cut off.

Cloudy most the day but very pleasant part the time. Chored about. Mrs. Mahoney ironed for me & donesome other house work. M. Hawkins at my mowing machine. This P.M. went to Franklin got horseshad, behind. Got candy & corn furtilizer & c. & c.

Sat. June 25, 1892

Stormy part the day & cloudy most the day. Carried a bag of Guano to D. Manhonies. Carried AliceMiller home. Called at JM Hunts. J Gower put another cow to pasture. Aaron Carney plowed a piecefor turnips for me. I planted some squashes over, set out 50 or more cabbage plants & c & c.

Pleasant some but cloudy most the day & rained hard about 5 P.M. At home all day. E.Simonds & Nellie Hewet called here for an hour or two & others here.

Mon. June 27, 1892

Cloudy all day & rained a little about 6 (or before)P.M. F. Landry worked for me. Picked the potato bugs, hoed part the garden. We horse hoed part of J Currans potatoes. I poled part the beans & gotsome more poles. I fixed Mrs. Currans flower bed & set out some Sweet William & c & c. HelpedLeasure load 885 lbs of his hay. He had my wagon to carry it to Franklin.

Tues. June 28, 1892Rained very hard most of last night, cloudy most of the day to day. Frank Landry worked for me.Picked potatoe bugs & hoed in garden & c. We bushed the peas. Horse hoed front of Currans garden &c & c.

Cloudy most the day. Mowed a little by R.R. driveway to Leasures lot. He had Aaron mow part of hisgrass. F. Landry worked for me in P.M. Finished hoeing the garden & some back of old shop. Horse

Cloudy, rained since this morn & most the time after 10 A.M. till towards night. Arthur Miller hoed for me 3 1/4 hs back old shop & after 2 P.M. F. Landry worked cleaning & oiling my harness. I helpedsome & cleared up in barn some & c & c.

Pleasant & cool. F. Landry hoed for me 2 1/2 hs & helped or took care of the hay for Willie the rest theday. I chored about . Got express wagon out for them to go to Franklin with Mr. Hawkins. Broughtmy machine home & I mowed part the piece back of horse barn 1 1/2 hs & have mowed the orchard byhouse to night. I helped get in Leasures 2 load of hay, 1/2 or 3/4 hs. Geo Miller came home with myrake & J. raked up the hay. DB. Allen & wife came out to see their old horse & went back on the train.

Very Warm, hot & pleasant. Looked some like showers (Thundered) but had none. F. Landry workedfor me. Mowed some & helped on hay. Mr. ____ that worked for Willie, helped 2 hs, getting in &raking. Got in 3 load from race meadow next to the pasture. Put 2 in bay this end & 1 on top scaffoldover cows. Mowed this side ditch in race meadow & some the other. Horse broke through the floor lastnight.

Very Warm but not very clear, rather hazy. A shower came most here about 12 1/2 noon it rained veryhard at P. B. Clarks, but not here. Rained here about 4 oclock. F. Landry worked for me in AM &about 2 hs in PM & a man that boarded there worked all day. Finished mowing race meadow. Got inone load from there to old barn. A Miller helped hs this PM on planting turnips. Got in, marked out& 10 rows droped. Mrs. Landry has a little girl.

Got in 2 load, 1 to mow in old barn this end from swale beyond the ditch front of old barn &1 to horse barn from further side by Whiting wood lot. I raked with horse & they raked the meadow.Mowed by Wikoby tree to night. Car of coal come this AM.

barn, drawed down a load of wood for Willie. They broke both my shalves off.

I took Dinner at Abbies with them & was at the* wedding of Emma. She was married at 5 oclock PM to Wm A Young (they call him Dick). Rev.Moore married at her home . I cooked my chicken but have not ate it.

Pleasant but very cold & windy. Chored about home. Built & kept a coal fire down stairs in the tuttle.Carried 375 lbs coal & 1/2 Bus Potatoes to Ad Blake. Wrote to A Mowry for grain.

Thursday 12 th

Cold. Cloudy but warmer. Snowed a very little. Shoveled snow to get to car & wood house to get safe.Aaron Canney helped me load it in the car. Took about 2 3/4 hs. This eve, put his reclining chair into thecar.

Friday 13 th

Cloudy AM. Pleasant PM. Very cold. Chored about. Blocked safe & chair in car & c & c. This PM,went to Woonsocket, got flour, grain & c.
