EQUIPOISE WAISTS.It is the belief of physicians, and others capable of judging-, that the

support of the clothing sliould be mainly from tlie shoulders ; and, inaccoi'dance with tiiis tlieory, many forms of support have been devised andadopted without perfect success. In children's waists, especially, sufficientregard has not been given to the width and adjustment of the shoulder-bandsto keep them in i)lace, nor to the adaption of the waists, the developmentof the ligure, nor to the attachment of straps for the support of the stock-ings. Generallj^ they are attached at or near the waist line, wliich is muchtoo higli for equalized tension, and proves very injuiious. In the EquipoiseWaists, these defects have been overcome. The great advantage of the

    01-

    BOY'S. INl-'AXT'S. GIKL'S.CHILDREN'S AND INFANTS' WAISTS

is, that the shoulder-band is so adjusted that it cannot slip oft" and bind thearm, or in any way occasion discomfort; and the lower part of the waist, being longer than usual, aftbrds more protection, more support for theclothing, and is in every way more comfortable.

On the Boy's Waist the buttons niai'ked (a) are for the support of thepants ; (b) drawers ; (c) hose.On the Girl's Waist the buttons marked (a) are for the support of theskirts; (b) drawers; (c) stockings.

THE INFANT'S "WAISTis made of tine twill, tinished with pearl buttons and Hamburg trimming.

THE BOY'S WAISTis nuide liigh in the neck, that the collar may be buttoned to the binding, orlow if desired, and on the sub-waist the buttons are arranged for the sup-port of all the clothing and the hose.

THE WAISTS FOR SCHOOL-GIRLSare made with special care to the development of the figure, and are suc-cessful in meeting a want long felt by njothers anxious for a reform in thisdirection. When needed, a few slender bones are introduced in front, giv-ing a little suppoit and relief from the fatigue of bending over the studies.

THE WAISTS FOR LADIES AND MISSES

    Ladies' BonedWaists.

    Front and BackViews.

are ;id:ipted to take the place of corsets, and are invaluable to invalids andthose who find the confinement and pressure of the corset injurious oruncomfortable. They are made without steels ; but several bones in frontextend in a plain gored piece under the full bosom-piece, giving to thefigure all the support and )ieat appearance of the corset. If desired, thewaists are made with lacings in the back, to admit of adjustment to thefigure. The same styles are made witliout bones.

In adopting these Waists, no change of other parts of the clothing isnecessary ; the bands of the skirt are worn the same size ; but it is verj-important that buttonholes should be made, to fasten the skirts securelyto the waists, to insure the comfort and support they are expected to give.

If ladies wish their clothing arranged lower on the waist, it can be doneby placing the buttons lower, and having larger, well-fitted waist-bands.The bones are arranged to be easily taken out for washing.

CORSET WAIST.In stock the waists are made high neck, but any one wishing tlieni low-

can have them at the same price if no other change is needed. When made with tucked yoke and Hamburg trimming, they are astasteful and elegant as can be desired.

Tlie best materials are used, the work is carefully finished, the button-holes are made by hand, and the buttons strongly sewed on. which is con-sidered a leading point of excellence.

This admirable article of clothing, wliich has for the past few yearsbeen steadily and surely growing in favor, gives entire satisfaction. Thereputation which it has. not only in our own cotuitry, but in England andother foreign countries, has been gained entirely by its own merits, as ithas not heretofore been advertised, or been in the hands of canvassers.
