The Sor Juana Festival is a multidisciplinary
festival that honors one of Mexico’s greatest
writers, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, a 17th-century
Mexican nun who valued the education of
women. Sor Juana was a celebrated playwright,
mathematician and poet in her own time and
considered to be the fi rst feminist of the
Americas. Through this unique festival, we
celebrate the legacy of Sor Juana Inés de la
Cruz and pay tribute to the rich artistic
accomplishments of Mexican women from
both sides of the border.

Hizo su debut como parte del elenco de Vaselina, laversión en español de la producción estatal “Grease” junto a Timbiriche.3. En 1992 protagonizó junto a Bibi Gaytán, Paulina Rubio y Eduardo Capetillo la popular telenovela Baila Conmigo. Poco después, Stephanie lanzó su álbum debut titulado Ave María, álbum que llegó a alcanzar disco de oro en México. La canción principal se convirtió en un gran éxito en México, América Latina, y los Estados Unidos. Después de múltiples discos como “La Raza Humana” y “Tuna,” Stephanie Salas regresa al escenario con un excepcional álbum llamado, “Soy Lo Que Soy” con un sonido mas electro-pop y muy propositivo. Join us and author/professor Paloma Martinez-Cruz for a reading from her engaging book, Women and Knowledge in Mesoamerica: From East L.A. to Anahuac, a signifi cant and heartfelt contribution to women’s and gender studies, Latin American Studies, Chicana/o and Borderlands studies, as well as emerging intercultural dialogues on medicine and healing. Captivating personal narrative that intertwines with the historical account of the ways Mesoamerican women healers played a role during childbirth and helped cure the sick. The resulting story is an engaging read for those intrigued by indigenous healing practices, medicine, and spirituality.

The internationally acclaimed author of The House on Mango Street gives us a deeply moving tale of loss, grief, and healing: a lyrically told, richly illustrated fable for grown-ups in a perfect gift-sized format.
The word “orphan” might not seem to apply to a fi fty-three-year-old woman. Yet this is exactly how Sandra feels as she fi nds herself motherless, alone like “a glove left behind at the bus station.” What just might save her is the search for someone else gone missing: Marie, the black-and-white cat of her friend Roz. As Sandra and Roz scour the streets of San Antonio, posting fl yers and asking everywhere, “Have you seen Marie?” the pursuit of this one small creature takes on unexpected urgency and meaning. With full-color illustrations that bring this transformative quest to vivid life, Have You Seen Marie? showcases a beloved author’s storytelling magic in a tale that reminds us how love, even when it goes astray, does not stay lost forever.
Sandra Cisneros is the author of two highly celebrated novels, The House on Mango Street and Caramelo. Her awards include National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, the Lannan Literary Award, the American Book Award, and a MacArthur Fellowship. Other books include the story collection Woman Hollering Creek; two books of poetry; and two books of children’s literature. Her work has been translated into more than twenty languages. Cisneros is the founder of the Alfredo Cisneros Del Moral and Macondo Foundations, which serve creative writers.
Ester Hernández is an internationally acclaimed visual artist whose work is in the permanent collections of the National Museum Mexican Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Library of Congress, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo in Mexico City. She lives in San Francisco.
