Distributed Computing For E-Learning
ABSTRACT
Distributed computing promises a standard, complete set of grid computing capabilities.
Distributed computing must provide basic functions such as resource discovery and information collection
& publishing, data management on and between resources, process management on and between
resources, common security mechanism underlying the above, process and session recording/accounting.
Main advantage of Grid computing is, a networ of distributed resources including computers,
peripherals, switches, instruments, and data. !ach user should have a single login account to access all
resources.
"e start by analy#ing the nature of Grid computing and its re$uirements for nowledge support%
then, we discuss nowledge characteristics and the challenges for nowledge management on the Grid.
ere we provide semantic based grid based applications for e'learning.

Bnowledge management has siC problems in nowledge life cycle. (hat is ac$uiring, modeling, retrieving,
reusing, publishing, and maintaining nowledge. Grid are how to ac$uire, formally model, eCplicitly
represent, store, maintain, and update them, and to use them to support seamless resource sharing and
interoperability, so as to achieve a high degree of automation.
Proposed S2stem#
"e analy#e the nature of Grid computing and identify its re$uirements for nowledge management. "e
further argue that an innovative and systematic approach to nowledge Management on the Grid is
re$uired in order to help achieve the goal of the Grid. 1ur contributions are three folds 4irst, we propose
the emantic "eb'based approach to managing heterogeneous, distributed Grid resources for Grid
applications. econd, we design architecture to reali#e the proposed approach and conceive a methodologywhich addresses the complete life cycle of nowledge management. (hird, we apply the approach,
concepts, and methodology to a real'world Grid application.
