    Picturesque building near Waco, Texas thatstarted out a restaurant, add has had a succession of other tries...beautiful but impractical.New train in Forest Park, at $25,000 each train.On the old five-mile track. Train turned overthe day before this picture, injuring 18. Shouldhelp business by adding a little excitement.

    Old control board on the Queen Mary, embellished with the addition of the board on top explaining how the propulsion system works.

    Cne of several "islands" in the harbor at LongBeach, Calif. They are off-shore drilling rigsand in order not to be eyesores, the city specified they be disguised as tropical islands, sothe buildings are fakes.

    Al Samaniego on the bridge of the Queen Mary.A marvelous old ship, but just too old to compete with later ships and planes.

    Research submarine on board the Queen Mary aspart of the marvelous undersea museum and exhibits.

    The diver's a dummy, but not the propeller. Itis one of the Queen Mary's, and they've builta room around it, filled with fresh water.There were originally four, and they junked theothers.

    Looking aft of the bow on the Queen Mary atLong Beach. It's cost from $50 million to $200million so far, but is a marvelous tourist trapand should pay the city back in time. Part ofit is a Hyatt hotel and convention center.

    Los Angeles "Love Parlour" at 9 o'clock on Saturday morning. Two girls in the window disappeared when they saw the camera, and the mancame out and yelled as we drove off.Beautiful restaurant at LA airport. Looks likeit turns, but it doesn't. Designed to kill timewhile waiting for planes, as a meal takes twoor three hours, very pleasantly,

    Old frame house on Carmen Avenue in Hollywood,where Paul roomed in 1938-^1. The Ingrams madeit Just like home.Memoriesi Old San Diego IMCA where Paul spentmany an hour, homesick for civilian life. Theywere wonderful to servicemen with services andhospitality.

    Fake Alpine scene at Universal Studio. Rocks,snow and some of the trees were fake, and tunnel gave illusion of turning over.

    Real steam engine coming at us while our girlguide screamed on cue as we crossed in frontof it. It stopped four feet short, and thedummy engineer kept waving at us .

    Parting of the Red Sea on studio baek lot. Onemoment it's unbroken water, then giant rubberwalls rise, the water drains out holes in thebottom, and vehicles can cross over.

    "Rain" and fake gully-washer in UniversalStudios in Hollywad, in July 1975. A tree evencomes crashing down d few feet from bus.#

    Real studio filming with Robert Wagner, is interrupted while our caravan of buses passes.We watched a "chase" up a hill.

    It used to be "Boon docks" in San Diego behindthe Navy and Marine bases, and now is a beautiful park and hotel, ala South Pacific.One of the units of the Cottrell 1650 Al Sam-aniego and Paul went to Los Anggles to see. Ithad been in a fire.

    The units were not really burned, but singedand had water damage. A real clean-up job andtearing down would get them running.Another unit of the Cottrell, which was usednine months, then burned In Grand Junction,Colorado in 197*f.

    The U.S.S. Ranger? an active carrier, withboth jets and helicopters. Elevator can beseen on the side.

    A giant tanker under construction in San Diego,Not one of the biggest, but still gigantic.Several other ships were on the ways.

    The U.S.S. Long Beach, a missile launcher, andnuclear powered. Needs refueling every sevenyears. Long, lean and mean.Antique sailing ship in San Diego, anchored formany years and serves as floating museum andtourist attraction.

    A submarine tender at the same dock we usedin April 1975 on the Rotterdam. All the carson the flight deck are transported for the crew.V/reck of German ship near the skyline of down-town San Diego. It was to be broken up, when itsunk here. Oil leaked up on the shore (dark line!

    Small sailboat in the lock between the Chicagoriver and Lake Michigan. The lock keeper kepttelling the skipper he couldn't go up the riv-er , and the Coast Guard sent up a small boat,but he must have had influence, for he went upthe r iver, with them raisim all the bridges.

    U.S. postoffice in Chicago, the only one inthe world where you can drive thru at 55 mph.Rather than take another r oute with the free-way, they just run in thru the lower floor ofthe building.

    Due of dozens of bridges along the Chicagoriver, raised on this occasion to let a smallsailboat thru. We were told they rarely raise,USS Silversides, a big submarine at Chicago,one of the old timers. It was operational,but looked r un down and in poor shape.

    Beautiful Hilton Hotel near airport in Chi-cago. All the windows are gold, and with thejfun in the right direction it is brilliant.Newsprint carrier unloading along the Chicagcriver at the Chicago Tribune dock. It comesin from Canada.

    Beautiful Chicago office buildingwithout a straight line around it.Wind striking such buildings in the"Windy City" creates prollems/forpedestrians in the streets below.

    The famed Chicago Loop, with train on overheadtrack. Further out it becomes a subway. Underblocks and blocks of the Loop are stores andstreets that never see sunlight.

    Chicago's weekend navy, with reservists on alarge PT boat cruising on Lake Michigan on abeautiful August Sunday.

    IAncient proof presses, made in the fashion ofold George Washington hand presses, among acollection of five in Chicago printing supplycompany. The presses are priceless, and theplace is locked and barred like a jail.

    Tin coalman, truly a work of art, in front ofa bank near Colorado Springs. Full size, andappears to be made of old rusted car parts.

    Gulf shrimp boat out of Freeport. The crewssleep and loafl all day, and shrimp at night.The large boards on each se are dragged onthe bottom, and the shrimp go into the nets.Burned out remains of old Swift building on thenorth side of Fort Worth. Presently being dismantled brick by brick for their sale.

    Old Will Rogers train, rusting for many yearsalong Will Rogers coliseum, and later at theDepot of Supplies, being rebuilt and refluvin-ated in August 1975.

    Two or three men are working on the old WillRogers engine, to get it ready to run on a bicentennial celebration in 1976. It looks impossible at this stage.

    Beautiful chapel at the Air Force Academy atColorado Springs. The spires are made of alum-inum , and caused a furor at the time of build-ing at the great expense.

    Beautiful mall between buildings at the AirForce Academy at Colorado Springs, with fourold jets gracing each corner.

    Interior of the Air Force chapel,absolutely gorgeous.Downtown Cripple Creek, Colorado, once the goldcapital of Colorado, and dead for many years,is showing signsy6f life as the price of goldhas made mining profitable. There is plenty ofgold there...it just didn't pay to dig it out.

    Collection of old steam engines at Cressen, Texwhich belong to a retired railroad man/farmer.He often cranks one up on Sundays and performsto the admiration of neighbors and visitors.

    Inside the Cavalla, this is one of the largediesels that powered her on the surface, andrecharged the batteries.

    One of several torpedo tubes on the Cavalla,which was built in 19^3j saw service in WWII,and decomissioned in 197*+.

    Real moon rocks in a glass case at the spacecenter. Probably priceless, but very unim-pressive..

    Cramped seats aboard the above spacecraft, thatallowed little space for movement. It takes abrave man to stay in there very long.Two lonely old LCT's at Orange, Texas, waitingto be broken up for scrap. The last of an en-ormous mothball fleet quartered there.
